  1. I have one of his cranks… I’ll cherish it. I met Frank once on a business trip out west, where I made the time to visit their shop. He was a gentleman, and generous with his time. RIP and peace to your family, Sir.
  2. Hey Red. Merry Christmas and have a great New Year. A fantastic treat indeed.
  3. I’d try to reach Bozeman directly, and not through Nashville. Those folks are great and I am sure will help you navigate the bureaucracy, but they are the ones who ultimately repair and solve issues, no? I know one fella there. Don Ruffatto. Aces. https://www.chamberofcommerce.com/united-states/montana/bozeman/musical-instrument-store/2005601823-gibson-acoustic
  4. Howdy Buc. Just a hello…. By the way, a forum member here had J Geils’s J55. I think he’s sold it? Not sure. Neat guitars.
  5. Thanks all, Dave’s right. I have had a ton of nice instruments, and have been through enough rabbit holes. I never graduated to the Authentic and Boutique round; I seemed to have no trouble finding lots of Standard type models to play with. Anyways, I’m going to take my time and wait for the right Gibson A to come along. I think maybe the power move is to go to Tennessee in the spring and see if I can’t play a few.
  6. Hoping to be at $2000 for one needing now work, and others accordingly less. i think the repair folk by me have less experience making mandolins right… except Brothers.
  7. Pretty sure they were 24 3/4 scale, although there has been “ variability”. This one was written up and the author says he measure 24 7/8. https://jakewildwood.blogspot.com/2016/09/1954-gibson-lg-2-flattop-guitar.html what I would really suggest is that you email Don Ruffato at Gibson in Bozeman, with pictures, and ask him? or wait for our own author of Kalamazoo Gals to weigh in…
  8. Dave. Thanks. The first one - chef’s kiss. i know the Eastmans are great, I just have my mind set on one of American timbre.
  9. Thanks gents. i do have a Big Muddy. It sounds great and does fine. i just feel like I’d want an old Gibson… and something that can do a little chop chop.
  10. I care about price, sweet warm tone, and good setup above all… thoughts on which model, and where to buy?
  11. Post this on UMGF and/or AGF! very desired model…
  12. Pandemic money is almost gone. The market is soft. Davef gives good advice. as an aside, if you like Martin tone but less mud, try the OM-28.
  13. Every J45-TV has the advanced bracing.
  14. When I bought my very special used J45-TV, it was a mystery. The action was high. And it buzzed. And the intonation was fubar. It was very puzzling to me, but I knew my limitations and took it to the best shop I knew (Brothers Music in PA). It received a new nut and saddle, had its neck straightened, and it hasn’t been adjusted since. the right setup makes a guitar. Good luck EA. I firmly believe if your guitar has the bones right, the right setup can, well. You know. ps my saddle is not compensated?
  15. The J45 has Elixirs. The Martin has Daddario XS. Same pick. Recorded dry with an iPhone. No processing or reverb or coloring. I think you are hearing it as if you were in front of the guitars. I think the J45 is world class in how wide its sound is… but maybe the Martin gets there down the road? I know from where I am sitting, and listening “on top”, that OM is fantastic. Thanks for listening guys.
  16. Roger. Just simply terrific my brother. and the J45 is perfect for it.
  17. The Martin is new to me… I thought I would share this? By the way it’s recorded dry on an iPhone.
  18. Stunning! Congratulations.
  19. What a comparison… thank you and enjoy those wonderful instruments…
  20. Nice cover! Nice guitar too… he is hard to sing up high for me… folks like us gotst to go low! cheers gumbino
  21. JCV dropping knowledge. Cool video… It was the first Gibson I owned; bought in the 1990s at a Sam Ash in Brooklyn. It was a nice sounding full guitar. I want to say I traded it in for either a J200 from Mannys, or a Takamine special LTD gecko. I forgot about all this….
  22. Smiling dude behind him and to the left: “Holy smokes that James Taylor in a bathrobe”
  23. Thanks Murph… https://www.russomusic.com/products/1938-kalamazoo-kg-14-acoustic-guitar-burst-w-case-used
  24. Russos is about to list online a 1938 Kalamazoo Small body guitar. Keep your eyes peeled if it’s your bag. I think the pricing seemed low to me at about $2500. Looked in nice condition.
