  1. I guess they used the knobs with the elevated caption on the 2008 Standard and the new ones with printed (white) caption on the 2012 Standard. The knobs that they sell in the store are the new ones: http://store.gibson.com/top-hat-knobs/ Robert
  2. Hi, I want to introduce my new girl. It's a redhead, born in July, 2012 in Nashville, weight 3910g (8,62lbs): Although I'm more of a traditional kind I eventually chose the new LP Standard and not the Traditional. As a beginner, who is used to play on a Strat, the neck profile of the Standard is more comfortable to me. Here are my first impressions: - Quality is decent but there is potential. The finish is fine, the binding of the body, too. But the neck binding could be more accurate. It’s a bit roughly machined in some areas. - The body is made of two pieces mahogany. But I can hardly spot the joint. Looks like one piece. The grain of the back looks fine. - Weight is 3910g (8,62lbs). The weight distribution is perfect. When the guitar sits on my leg it is ideally balanced. - The Rosewood of the fretboard looks rather dry and a bit dirty. There’re some people who complained about a too bright colored fretboard. For my taste the color is dark enough. - The neck is almost straight. There is only a very, very slight bow. The G string is buzzing if it is hit hard. Maybe I've to adjust the truss rod a little. - The guitar has standard strap pins. In my opinion strap locks would be more appropriate for a guitar of this price and weight. - The volume knob for the neck pickup is different from the other knobs. The caption is imprinted, and not engraved. And she sounds great! Robert
