  1. Someone going through the trouble of cloning a 335 with a three piece neck, volute, large pick guard, clone the Gibson tuners, AND make it with nibs? It looks real to me.
  2. Yeah, for sure the BB Lucille is the bomb! I was always on the lookout for one and one day boom! There she was far away... click, click, click....type, type, OK, It's on the way!
  3. I like resurrecting old threads... I have a few ES3xx models including a 333, and initially after getting it I had mixed feelings on the 333. On the slightly negative side it did not "feel" like any of my Gibson 3xx gits, it's lighter, the neck is thinner and the frets are narrower, it just,"felt" different. It REALLY needed a pick guard for me to start to get comfortable using it because I often anchor my right hand on the PG. I also did not like the satin finish on back of the neck, and after buffing the back of the neck and adding the PG it went a long way to getting it to feel right. I also buffed the rear just to see what it looked like buffed out a bit... it's OK but I don't know if I'd go through the trouble of stripping everything off the top just to shine it up. The original pups are a good alternate voice away from the 57's, BB's, and patent number pups in my other Gibsons, it balances exactly like my others, a bit body heavy. I play all of my Gibson semis with a strap standing or sitting and that fixes that. As an added benefit of the 333, it has that access plate in the rear... I'm not a "modder" but one day I may fool around installing some of the many pickups I've acquired over the years in it. Overall, if I couldn't have a 335, 345, 347, or 355 I'd have a 333 any day and definitely over a 335 studio because I prefer white binding and I like the simple gold "Gibson" logo on the head. The 333's are real sleepers and a good buy compared to the 335 studio and (IMO) better looking.

    MHS pickups

Nope, even with the bridge nearly touching the strings the bridge pup was worthless.
  5. I'd tell you but I forgot what else is in there too :-)
  6. I also have one, I kinda forgot I have it because it's buried in my closet. I used to play it a lot, nowadays my 335 and variants get most play time.
  7. I have a 1979 "Road warrior" It's been gigged, used hard, pups and frets replaced has finish checking, buckle rash, git hanger marks and some other general ugliness and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

    MHS pickups

Funny, I have the MHS pups on a LP-ES and they're excellent, but on an ES-275 semi which I sent back the bridge was 1/2 the volume of the neck pup. Invariably most who review them like the MHS quite a bit.

    ES-275 Semi

I prefer the single cut to a DC in fully and semi hollow models, they look correct to me. So... they FINALLY have one I like.

    ES-275 Semi

Finally Gibson has another semi hollow in production, and I HOPE the bean counters give it some time to gain traction and mature in the product line. I remember the (first) Midtowns and they were out of production even before most players ever heard of them. Then in a knee jerk move they reintroduced them but not the same as the originals, and they too were discontinued. http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2019/Memphis/ES-275-Thinline-2019.aspx
  11. I have a number of Gibson ES semi hollow gits (335's, a 345, 135, 137 etc) as well as Epi (Sheraton) Ibanez, Peerless, Heritage, Eastman, D'Angelico and every single one falls short of the real deal. Why is that? There's nothing magic about a few slices and hunks of wood... it's all old tech, going on 60+ years old no? But there is something elusive about the 335 that I can't put my finger on that others (even other Gibson models) just do not have. Whether I'm playing my black 1990 or 2017 natural 335's it's always the same, like putting on a pair of comfortable shoes or shirt that fits right and has the perfect material that I barely know is there. Since my first mid 60's model (which I sold to pay rent in the early 70's) to current models I've always had a 335 to compare against others. Don't get me wrong, some clones are very respectable (like the cheapo Ibanez AS-120) while some with much more visual pizazz fall even further away from the 335 vibe (like the Ibanez AS-153) but are still very useful. So, is the Gibson 335 "head stock logo tax" worth it? IMO yes, for sure, no doubt.
  12. MHS, like BB's are a bit bright for me, and depending on the git may sound better in one than another. The BB's in my Midtown Custom are shrill and difficult to get a usable tone out of, while the BB's in my 335 figured are better and easier to EQ the high component out of. My current LP-ES has MHS and they are brighter than a LP-ES I returned to the retail store but are manageable. OTOH, I've yet to find / own a git that has 57's that I have this variability feeling about. What likely influences my opinion is I do not use ANY pedals, or overdrive / crunch /distortion on my amps, just straight git sounds with a very small tad of reverb.
  13. My Genny has a 7 digit SN 029xxxx your guess on the SN format looks OK to me.
  14. I have a LP-ES with MHS, as well as a 335 and Midtown custom with BB's and find both of them much brighter than I prefer my 57 Classic equipped models. I'm not one to ever change pups but the 335 and LP-ES may get 57's in the neck at some point.
  15. Asking for opinions without product details is not going to get anywhere. Are you banking on players buying odd kitschy gits because they look odd or kitschy? Anyway... Lose the tremolo, make it an option, too many players (like me) won't buy anything with a tremolo. Use dot markers because those are just horrible, do they glow in the dark? :-) Maybe just make the whole fret board white so they can see it from space. Gold hardware, yuk, gold isn't classy like it used to be, it looks (and is) cheap and rubs off. Why white? To cover plywood? MDX? How about natural so we can see what's under it all, or is it plywood? A set neck? Bolted on? What do all those doodads on top do? Tune in NPR, Presidential or Amber alerts? Just funnin' here, but I hope you see my point... that is if you ask for opinions, have some meat with the potatoes, that is unless you want to sell 250 units to players who only buy kitschy looking gits.
  16. Since you knew this serial number was used multiple times, could you post a list of serial numbers that you are aware of that have been used multiple times?

    Gracias.

    You say pitch?...

  18. I have one that I bought last year. It's about the most versatile guitar I've ever played, sound, feel, everything is perfect.
