  1. Thanks Again

I buy StewMac tools all the time.... ya they are pricey, but they have always made projects easier.... especially for a hobbyist like myself that needs all the help they can get

  2. Most of all my Gibson's have been switched out to the Tim Shaw era pickups. I still have four pairs from my buying spree from 2010 to 2012 where I purchases a total of 20 pairs. Now they are just too expensive.

For me they have a nice bitey tone with tons of clarity whether you are distorted or clean. Of all the Gibson pups I have tried, for me the Tim Shaw era pups are by far the best for what I do.

See the below video when I first received my Pro Tools Recording program and I recorded a little guitar lick using my VOX AC50 and my 1980 Les Paul Custom.

  3. Sorry to hear that, but I think teachers (especially in todays environment) are at such a disadvantage because teachers are now baby sitters, and have to deal with disconnected parents that spend most of their time with their faces planted in their iPhones, when they should be reading to their kids and participating in their school assignments.... and the reality is generally kids and teenagers are shitheads... In my generation while in school I've experienced many disruptive kids.

My mom especially, taught us that our function while at school was not to critique the teachers, but to contextualize what the books would show us, and if we needed clarity you raise your hand to get the needed assistance.

Make the initial cut with a saw and follow up with files/abrasives. Easier to buy a pre slotted one and file from there though

    thanks for the info.

Do you think I might be going over-board with a belt sander if it needs extra shaping? I also have diamond blade nut slotting tools if I have to go deeper with the nut slots. I have always thought bone nuts were the more denser material, but compared to this #6 material bone is like butter.

  5. Never-mind.....

I'm just going to put this thing aside.

There's a guy on eBay that already sells these kind of nuts pre-slotted and shaped for the most part.... I'm going to order a belt sander if I have to do anything more to it.

  6. I need some help.

What in gods name tool am I'm going to need to shape a #6 material nut????? The material seems to resist sand paper and files.

I'm also worried about my groove cutter tools as well.

    Thanks in advanced.

I graduated H.S. early. Started college when I was 16. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I was too young for college and almost flunked out the first year. But, after that the rest was a breeze.

My mom was so upset I didn't go to college directly out high school, and I probably would have done well, but my focus was becoming a rock star, and I didn't see how an Engineering Degree (at that time) would contribute to my initial goal..... Although it did work out great for Tom Scholz.

It's become a reflection of the woke world, a dark shadow that has crept across our land.

Honestly it's both the far-left and far-right that isn't doing this country any favors.

  9. Never knew he closed shop and was accused of making distasteful comments.

Gotta be careful. Seems like people are always looking for something to protest about..... It's been that way in the USA as long as I can remember.

I think my generation was able to bleed off some of that energy by going to concerts. Rock N Roll / Metal concerts were a great way to rebel against the Man without having to burn things down.

Funny I clearly remember all those insane Holly Rollers and Senate dickheads calling all Heavy Metalers Devil Worshippers. lol... We thought they were just lame and bored individuals.

Duane, I've had several students who were able to graduate at the end of their junior year.  I think the best was one of my juniors was so caught up in the gang life that he was on the verge of falling headlong into that lifestyle.  After working with him consistently and after days of encouragement he started to move away from the gangs and the street life.  He became the first person in his family to graduate high school.  He enrolled in the local jr. college and is now an auto mechanic.

Sometimes a little encouragement and persistence pays off.

So my question to you is, did you stick around for your senior year? Or did you graduate early?

    Great story CaliMan!!!!

I graduated early, got my own apartment and off to be be a rock star. lol.

To me other than marching band, high school was boring and I never had a girl friend in high school, so there was no emotional attachment to make me want to stay and hang out another year.

  11. I was never into Saturday Night Live...... All my pals in high school would watch it, but the times I did watch it, there was this thing made of clay called Mr. Bill and I just thought that was just completely stupid.

The shows I watched with my pops were the Smothers Brother's, Flip Wilson and All In the Family..... I wasn't allowed to stay up late and watch Johnny Carson, but when I was able to watch Johnny, that was and is still my favorite late night TV

My rule is never buy more than I can afford,

My rule is never lend more money that can kill a friendship...... Half the time I have lent money to friends, I have never seen it.

As for buying guitars..... I have certainly stepped over the red line on more than a few occasions...... Sometimes you just have to go outside the financial  guard-band.

Wow Duane, she is stunning! That's the kind of guitar that makes the voices in my head scream, "Put that down! That's expensive!".  Dollars to donuts, I wager that guitar has never been played at a Hillbilly fire pit, nor should it ever be, lol.

As a matter of fact I played it at Venice Beach on an 80 degree day and sweat all over it and now the  finish is a little cloudy on the upper bout. I play my guitars and I'll play them anywhere.

  14. When I started playing clubs at 14, my mom made me wear ear plugs, and I'm glad she did. It just became habit to always wear them. Now with IEM's and electronic drums, nothing is loud.

The neck joint was at the 16th fret in 1982 and 1959 so something is wrong. I don’t want to be a **** but I would never approve of what you’ve done here it just isn’t good

Well no duh the joint is at the 16th fret. I just didn't  have that option with the components I was working with so I made well with what I had, and for a total of about $800 I'm gonna have a nice playing and sounding geetar when it's all done.

And really dude you're not the final approval on projects or what is good or not good. .... I'm happy and that's all that counts.

The 1/2 coat is probably the last thing I’d ask about. The neck joint looks horrendous and LPs are supposed to have the neck joint at the 16th fret so I’m not sure what we’re doing here but it’s not right.

Looks fine to me considering what needed to be done to keep the fretboard end from imposing on the neck pickup cavity. It's comfortable and nobody is going to see it, unless I decide to pull a Jimi Hendrix and play with my teeth. Plus I've seen some of those PRS neck joints from hell that were done on purpose..... What I did was done out of necessity to fit a 1982 Gibson neck on a 59 spec Les Paul body.......... I'm pleased so far.
