  1. I've been working on a lot lately.  It seems that Chord Progressions and different Major and Minor Scales seem to be the focus of all my efforts.  This also includes both major and minor blues scales and their relative minor or major scales for improvisation and soloing.

As far as the chord progressions go.  I'm finding it so useful to creating good sounding music.  The use of Harmonized major and minor chord progressions as well as 7th chords, has been a real benefit to my growth as a musician.

    What are you working on?

Jeff Beck from Wired. Head For Backstage Pass. Too funny.

Yeah, you probably couldn't include that on an album these days.  Not with a Woke Social Mob ready to jump your a$$ for violating the "Me Too Movement's" sanctity.

Think about the song, "Rolling Stone," where Dr. John sings "We've got a blue-eyed, teenage groupie who will do anything we say."

No, you'll have the Dept. of Justice knocking on your door (Sean Combs) or the Los Angeles PD like they did to Don Henley back in 1980.

  3. I saw a Rick Beato video last week that indicated that the following bands will still be played in the year 2021; based on Spotify spins:

    Nirvana

    Queen

    The Police

    The Beatles

I wouldn't count Nirvana as a Joke as they seem to have the staying power (at least on Spotify) than other bands like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd and the Who.  And I should add that other '90s bands, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Alice in Chains, or bands like the Foo Fighters (Dave Growl) do not even come close to what Nirvana was able to do in it's short-lived existence.

I agree that many bands do not possess the ability to perform like Humble Pie did.  The closest I've seen was the Black Crowes and those performances were few and far between because of extenuating circumstances.

  4. It's funny how a youtube algorithm sends a bunch of musicians or musically inclined folks a video like this.  My wife and I were both watching this video yesterday morning, which is something that totally surprised me that she would want to watch, but she did and was quite into it.

I got to see Humble Pie a long time ago at the Long Beach Arena in California.  They opened for Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush.  What a concert, right!

Frampton had left the band by then, but it still was an amazing show.

I've always loved Humble Pie and as I said earlier, seeing that video yesterday was cool.  The backup singers and Steve Marriott's interaction with them was great.  When I said Peter Frampton was in the band, my wife picked him out immediately.  So she got a thrill out of it too.

    Thanks for posting.

  5. Phil,

so sorry for the loss of your wife. Wow.  You've had some rough times over the last few years with the fire, rebuilding and now her passing.  I'm so sorry for you. My condolences to you and yours. Would it be alright to call you.  I believe I still have your number.

You still in the Agoura Hills area?

    That's a beautiful guitar.

Instrumental music. I was in there two or three months ago.  Playing the Martin D-35 Johnny Cash they had there.

I watched that video.  You look good Phil.

  6. Just found this online.

We're thrilled to share some exciting music news bound to stir the souls of rock and blues aficionados alike. Guitar legend Slash is set to release his sixth solo album, “Orgy of the Damned,” on May 17, under the banner of Gibson Records.

A great cover takes something old and makes it new again. This is the philosophy behind Slash’s  new album, Orgy of the Damned, a collection of 12 dynamic songs that shakes up and revitalizes blues classics with a stripped down, instinctive approach. Working in a similar way to his 2010 self-titled solo LP Slash, which featured multiple guest vocalists, the acclaimed guitarist teamed up with numerous musicians and singers to create a singular expression that pays homage to the blues. By celebrating both well-known and largely undiscovered songs, Slash offers a nostalgic nod to the past while reinvigorating the songs with his inimitable guitar playing and the spirit of collaboration.

    Side A:
    The Pusher- feat. Chris Robinson
Crossroads – feat. Gary Clark Jr.
Hoochie Coochie Man – feat. Billy F. Gibbons

    Side B:
Oh Well – feat. Chris Stapleton
Key To The Highway – feat. Dorothy
    Awful Dream- feat. Iggy Pop

    Side 😄
Born Under A Bad Sign – feat. Paul Rodgers

  7. "HBE Germania," are good pedals.  I've tried them.  I love my HBE Ultimate Fuzz Octave (UFO), the Psilosybe (Phaser) and even use their Bytchen Swytchen (#100).  I wish Joel Weaver was still building pedals.  I've never had an issue with my HBE UFO or Psilosybe.

Great stuff and if you can find it, it's worth it.

As far as stacking overdrive pedals, that was quite a fun day.  I was nailing some crazy gain settings with those two that day.  I specifically remember playing "Mob Rules" by Sabbath and thinking "Wow! This is cool as.... well you know, hell".

  8. I had the opportunity to see Slash in Los Angeles back in 2018.  Talk about the guitars that man brought to the show.  I must have over a hundred photographs of him playing a different guitar for every song on the set list.

I kind of dug the Gold Explorer he played that night and his newest signature at the time, the cherry red 4 guitar.

  9. These things always turn out where everyone posts their telecasters.

Let me be the first to say, "All I got is a red guitar, three chords, and the truth," Bono.

Love the red telecasters.  Love telecasters period.  Can never have enough telecasters.  Hence, everybody posting theirs.  Not that that has happened yet.

    Again, beautiful.

  10. It Might Get Loud, is a good documentary.  I remember when BlockBuster was closing and I happened to wonder in there one afternoon.  They had two copies for a buck a piece so I bought them.  Kept one, gave the other to my friend.

I like it because three relatively good guitarists, Jack White, The Edge, and Jimmy Page were all involved in the making of it.  Great documentary in my humble opinion.
