  1. Is it normal to have a 57 paired with a BB3? The dates of the 2 pickups are about the same, so I'd imagine it must have come like that ut I thought it was 57 Classic and 57 Classic+.

The envelope has been sitting on my desk a few days. Haven't opened it yet. It's too thin.  I bet they want me to do it on line. I think the last time I made them send me the paper one. The Post Office needs the work these day, it's helping create jobs. Plus, it forces them to file it somewhere physical, or upload it themselves.

I'm cool with the numbers and stuff, but I swear the last one asked about stupid stuff like toilets, and private stuff like money.

    I haven't opened it yet...

The timing of this is unfortunate because on one hand people have bigger things on their minds right now,  but on the other, they also have nothing better to do. It'll be interesting to see the results.

My wife was telling me air quality across the world has gotten measurably better.  I can believe it - and feel this is a fortunate byproduct of all the commuters not commuting, but she is a suspect source.

I would bet traffic deaths are down too.

Anecdotally, as I take my walks and keep my appropriate distances, people in the neighborhood are much friendlier than usual.

Most of my favorite artists are doing semi-regular live-streams on the internet for fans.

Working from home means I get to play with my kids a lot more.

I'm not really buying anything other than food, so I'm saving a lot of money.

  4. I saw a doc on the band Slint on Youtube this weekend called Breadcrumb trail. Post-Punk/Post-Hardcore band. I also saw that the Pixies Doc, loudQUIETloud is on Youtube, I plan on watching that one soon.

I know you have been though a lot, but GC is what it is. They will low ball you when you sell  to them and try to get every cent out of you when you buy. It was that way when I was 16 going to CG is San Jose, CA when I lived there when I grew up there and the same at the CG in Virginia Beach which is the closest one to my current house. You can find a deal now and then, but I just go in there to noodle and not buy. Most if not have the same models in every store. One J-45, and H'bird  Studio, A G-45, a J-15, a Martin D-28,  000-15, a D-15, Mexican stuff, a heap ton of Taylor's, Yamaha's, Epi's, 2 nice 2k Gibson LP's, 2 nice American Strats and Teles all way up high on the 3rd row about 20 feet up, a ton on Mex Teles, and Strats, Epi Electrics ect ect. You know the drill you have been there. Every once and a while something cool that is used, and if you like it, it is gone in seconds. Rarely a Dove or J-200 or H'bird. Maybe in Atlanta or NY or LA. And if they do its behind glass under lock and key.  Can't remember the last time I saw a nice high end acoustic in the humidified room.  Last time I was there a 3 or 4 year old kid knock over the same acoustic twice and the sales rep told the dad it was okay they will just put it up higher on the hangers to hide the dings. Everything in GC is used unless you see it with your own eyes come out of the shipping box off the truck.

Cool, great story. I think TMAN's story is better though, what a great thing they did for him and the other 'survivors.' It's a terrible thing for a business to figure out a better way to sell guitars cheaper and with more variety. Us as consumers really lose out in that situation of being able to have more choice for less money, guitar center really is the devil.

So after several years of owning my Midtown I decided I wanted to spiff it up a bit. I found some pelham blue ES-335's out there that I really like the look of so I decided to try and model my Midtown after these.

I always loved the greenish, keystone tuning pegs on the vintage Gibsons so I thought I'd get a set and install them but quickly realized that more holes would have to be drilled and enlarged and I didn't want to modify it that much and that permanently. Having Grover tuners I discovered that you can remove just the tuning buttons and replace it so I found (rather easily) some replacement keystone buttons that are nickel. It would have been nice to have the green ones but I do like the nickel and definitely prefer the look of the keystone buttons over the kidney-bean shaped ones that were the original.

Unlike most guitar players I chose to install a pickguard instead of removing one. To me it adds a bit of class and somehow balances the aesthetic. I had to find a custom pickguard made specifically for the Midtown Standard and it's a pretty good one. It's more of a Les Paul style than a 335 style but it suits.

I never liked the speed knobs that came with it. Super modern looking and bigger than I'm used to. It was easy enough to find the more vintage looking Gibson top hat style knobs. Big improvement in look and feel for me.

To round out the upgrade I replaced the black pickup selector cap with a white, Gibson one.

Here's what the original looks like:

Here's what it looks like now:

I much prefer the look of this Midtown now. I've always loved the pehlam blue and with the upgraded accessories I think it accents the blue even more. It still plays the same and sounds the same which is great.

Though some of you would be interested in seeing this. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for sharing, it looks great!
