  1. Keep an eye on the temperature in that trailer if your guitar is in there. You're traveling into a heat wave. Have fun!
  2. Seriously? No more 80/20's?
  3. Ok, I got the image size figured out. Sorry for the double
  4. The new look is fine with me. I'd like to see the new management bring back a " Guitars for Sale or Trade" section, like every other forum on the planet has.
  5. Size 2A Colosi pins fit perfectly in my 2015 J45

A really nice set of Rosewood on that one. Congrats! I wonder what the folks at Gibson are thinking now that Taylor has veered head-on into their lane?
  7. I am really saddened to learn this. Preston had been fighting for his life for a number of months, but I am still stunned to hear the news. When I first visited his shop a few years back, he walked me around talking about the build process. At one point he picked up a piece of shipwreck brazilian rosewood from a stack of bookmatched sets. When he tapped it he described its sound as like a piece of glass, and at that moment I could see and feel how much he loved what he was doing. He was gracious and humble in every way. His guitars are fabulous and will remain his legacy.

Beautiful guitar. Comes in handy on those Doc Watson morning, D-18 guitar pickin' kinda days. Congrats!
  9. I agree with everyone's comments about trying heavier strings. If the jump to Mediums is uncomfortable for you, try a set of lights. Your guitar probably came from the factory wearing a set of Gibson Masterbuilt 80/20 Lights (12/53). If you like D'Addario's. try a set of EJ16's. I've never thought they sounded thin on a J-45 as you describe your EJ15's. Good luck
  10. You can also add "Gibson J-45 Iced Tea" to that list. Great compilation by the way!
  11. Very Cool, SirNed. Every Hummingbird and Dove owner loves that pickguard! Thanks for sharing!
  12. Jimmy Page, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Earle, John Hiatt, John Prine, Ry Cooder, Jerry Jeff Walker, Dan Hicks have all played Gibson acoustics at various times in their careers.
  13. Hey, Willie. I have Waverly open back tuners on my 00 Collings and love them. They function perfectly, hold tune well, and are nice and light. And on top of that, they look cool. But, I'm not sure how they would match up with the existing holes in your Blues King.

    Dead Strings

A Product Marketing Specialist from D'Addario contacted me today regarding my original "Dead Strings" post. He apologized for the set that didn't work right for me and offered to send me a new set of factory fresh strings. I told him that I appreciated the offer, but that it wasn't necessary to replace them. I have used EJ16's for a while and like their feel and the tone they give me. I have never had a problem before and will continue to use them in the future. It's good to see D'Addario stand behind the products they sell and reassuring that customer service is important to them.
  15. I changed strings on one of my guitars this week and the new ones sound as dead as the ones I took off. I use D'Addario EJ16's and have never run into this before. Anyone have a similar experience?
  16. Taylor actually owns and operates an Ebony Mill in Cameroon. In an effort to utilize Ebony more responsibly and sustainably, they are now also using wood that has lighter coloration and streaking. Only a small percentage of ebony trees have black wood. In the days when only pure black Ebony was utilized, 90% of Ebony trees cut down were left to rot where they fell, because they were not black. Bo
  17. Wow, that guitar sounds amazing to my ear. I love the vintage styling as well. Thanks for posting, JC!
  18. My J-35 was built in May, 2013. The bridge pins holes have pretty clean edges and there is plenty of clearance between the pin holes and the mounting hole. I like what I see in there!
  19. The rosewood bridgeplate on my $500 Fender looks great. The pin holes have have perfectly clean edges and there is not a sign of compromised material anywhere. My new J-35 is in the shop right now, but I plan to check this issue out when I get it back. I hope it looks half as good as the Fender. http://i1375.photobucket.com/albums/ag480/tdrex72/Fender_zpsb836295a.jpg
  20. okay Forty, I probably deserved that for asking a stupid question. But I was seriously wondering about the quality of a couple of those images. They seem to be much better than what I get with a soundhole mirror and my cell phone camera. Is it best take the back off with a saw, or should I use a blowtorch to melt the glue?
  21. There are some great pictures of bridgeplates in this thread. What is the best and easiest way to take photos inside a guitar with the strings on?
