  1. Wow, thank you sir. High praise indeed from a much admired artist. Happy New Year! Red 333
  2. You're the best, QM. Happy Holidays! Red 333
  3. That's so nice of you, Anne. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Red 333
  4. Thank you for saying! Merry Christmas! Red 333
  5. Thank you, Kieth! You are much too generous. Merry Christmas to you and yours! Red 333
  6. Some people put up lots of light and decorations in the yard. This is what I do. It is a lot of work, but each year I feel like I learn something new about recording or compositing or playing, so it's worth it. And I'm especially gratified by all the holiday greetings and comments the video prompts here and on Facebook, where I post it for my friends there. Thanks for the very generous compliments. Happy Holidays to you and yours! Red 333
  7. I saw the big white hummingbird on the pickguard and mistook it for a Dove! Sounds terrific.
  8. Nice job and just the right mood. TMan's song is an ear worm--I'll be singing it (happily) for days! Beautiful inlays on your Dove, too! Happy Holidays! Red 333
  9. Of course! DM me any time. Merry Christmas! Red 333
  10. Thank you very much and welcome to the forum! Red 333
  11. There are so many great holiday songs. Happy picking. And Happy Holidays!
  12. Thanks, Em. I remember you remarking on the sound of that bass when I posted last year's video. I only play bass once a year for the one song usually, but when I do, the Jack Casady makes me feel like a badass. Happy Holidays!
  13. Thanks so much, Dan. Happy Holidays! Red 333
  14. Once a year I open my DAW software and try my hand at some music recording, and then make a video out of the completed song. This year, I chose We Three Kings. It's a full, one-man band effort, not an acoustic-only performance, but it does feature my Short-scale Maple Advanced Jumbo as one of the two rhythm guitars. The other is an Epiphone Paul McCartney Texan capoed at the 7th fret. Also featured are two other Epiphones--the new (and fantastic) Shinichi Ubukata ES-355 and a Jack Casady Bass. I hope it puts a little smile on your face. Happy Holidays and I hope you all get some new strings. Red 333 http://youtu.be/I_cbSD_R_6U
  15. It's Gibson Masterbuilt. Epiphone Masterbilt (no "u"). Red 333
  16. Demolished in 1992? The sharp detail of the lyrics make it feel like you had personal experience. Your homemade dread sounds great, too. Nice job on both the song and the guitar. Red 333
  17. You snooze, you loose. Have yourself a merry little Christmas Red 333
  18. There's such real emotion in your singing and playing. Lovely. Red 333
  19. A person after my own heart. Red 333
  20. I agree. I got to sit up close at a McCartney show a few years ago, and my impression was the bridge on the Texan was still plastic, with the highly compensated saddle mounted in a dark, possibly ebony insert. But it's not like I held the guitar in my hands or anything, so take that with a grain of salt. Also, tangentially related to the ceramic/wood/bone/tusq discussion is this increasingly popular trend of people like Phoebe Bridgers putting rubber or foam under the strings between the bridge and the sound hole of their guitar. Instead of desiring to get a clearer, louder tone, they want to deaden it! Different strokes. Red 333
  21. I really loved the Masterbuilt strings. I have a dwindling supply of the even older versions in the black and orange box, made by Gibson itself in Elgin, IL (instead of made for them). When they're gone, I'm gonna have to start another one of those "what kind of strings?" threads! Red 333

Congrats. Hope you enjoy it for years to come. Red 333
  23. The earliest 1942/1943 Southern Jumbos had rosewood (and sometimes mahogany and rosewood) back and sides. Rosewood is not a super common Gibson tonewood, and some theorize that that Gibson was using up Advanced Jumbo bodies or components , as that model had been discontinued in 1939. The Rosewood Ray Whitley Recording King (also a slope shoulder body) was also discontinued around the same time as the AJ. Even so, Gibson had rosewood lying about. The rosewood Roy Smeck Radio Grande model wasn't discontinued until 1942 (a slope shoulder model, yes, but with a consistent depth at both upper and lower bout, as it was made for lap playing). After that, perhaps Gibson just used up its remaining Rosewood on the early SJs, and then transitioned the bodies to mahogany. After the early rosewood SJs were made and the bodies then became mahogany, rosewood was not used on a slope shoulder body for decades. Red 333
