    However this one is in play too. There is a short film on FB where Olivia Harrison tells the story about how George found it in a second hand shop. Not sure I believe it. Then again it could be true. .

    One needs to hear the new song with a set of alternative ears - and an open heart. 

    Not hard to understand if it's too challenging or impossible. In that case just don't turn on the track.

    I don't really hear it, , , yet give it spin now and then. Just passed round circa six, , , wonder if I'll reach number 9.  

     

    I think as a new track of music it's ok.  It's just not a Beatles song.  If any other musicians that hadn't been a part of the Fab Four released this I doubt it would have ever seen the light of day.  Just my opinion of course.  My main issue is the marketing around the whole thing.  If it had been released as a new John Lennon solo track that was completed by the Beatles Inc. I'm sure I would be less harsh in my judgement.

     

    It could be a generational thing as well.  I was born long after the Beatles hey day and after a certain someone took away our chance of ever finding out what a truly reunited Beatles might have sounded like.  So I don't have the mental, spiritual and emotional attachments that some have when it comes to the Beatles.

     

    As far as exhumed tracks go I think the best case of any band releasing a great posthumous track was The Doors "Ghost Song", that really fit with the band and actually sounded like a real song that they would have done together had they kept going.

    I am happy for the people that are finding joy with this track, that's great it's hard to come by these days.

My opinion on this track is unpopular.  It seems like a nostalgia money grab.  It isn't a very good song compared to the rest of their catalog and IMO it isn't a Beatles song.  It's a studio mishmash of a couple existing tracks and some ghastly graveyard exhumations.  I'll stick with Rubber Soul and the White album.  Not for me.

I've got some slim taper necks but don't like a wide nut with that shape. The standard 1.724" nut feels better with the slim taper. For me, The C shape works better with a 1.75"-1.77" nut. 

    Good to know.  I like the slim taper 1.725" necks and can do 1.75 or more but I like a little more depth than the currently fashionable .79-.81  that's on a lot of guitars these days.  Looking forward to trying out the historic in a couple weeks.  I actually like baseball bat necks, but only on necks smaller than 1.75.

    Couldn't be happier with it. I like the sound of the aged top and I like the C shaped neck. As I'm getting older, I prefer not to wrestle with the larger thicker necks. This one feels great.

    Thanks for the input, exactly what I was wanting to hear.  Surprised you like the neck, since you say you don't like large necks, I thought these ones had 1.77" nut with about .85" of depth which is a lot bigger than most modern acoustics these days.  I will admit of the current Historic I am most interested in the SJ Banner like yours, the J45 Banner, the Advanced Jumbo and the J35, Also the Pre War Rosewood J200, but those seem to be pretty dang rare.

So several years later, how is everyone enjoying their Historic Collection acoustics?  I'm  talking about the 2019-current runs featuring the 42 banner J45, pre war rosewood J200, 36 advanced Jumbo etc.   I don't really care about the Murphy labs, as that aging thing is not my taste.  Just wondering if people are enjoying their historic, and what is viewed as the best of the current crop.  I have my eyes set on a few and will be traveling to Fullers next month and hopefully taking the best Gibson I can play home with me.

  9. I've never had a problem getting bass from the couple of J-45s I had in the past. Just wondering what others experience was.  I did play an amazing AJ at guitar center of all places over 10 years ago and that had what I am looking for however time travel is unfortunately not possible and if it was I doubt I would waste it on guitar shopping.

    The long scale rosewood implementation of my HC SJ-200 Pre War 1939 has a very nice low-mid rumble to it. It's loud and boisterous and you can feel the rumble, but not sure it's as deep as a bass sound that I've heard in the Custom Slope samples heard  'round the forum. Most of the guitar shop demos online use rooms and mics that add to the brightness, which makes it kind of tough to judge.

     

    Well when I get the cash in the bank account and make the trip to Fuller's I will try 2 of everything they have before deciding.  I'll probably do something stupid like buy a dove because it's pretty!

Long story short I am getting a big bonus at work this year, more money than anyone has ever given me at one time.  Half is going to the family and practicality, and the other half is for a nice guitar.  I will be able to get pretty much any acoustic I would like and since I live within driving distance to Fuller's and love Gibson's it just might be a Gibson.

    Previously I have owned several fantastic J-45s that I had to part with for financial reasons with the TV J-45 being the best of the bunch, unfortunately the new custom shop J-45s don't have the Advanced X bracing.

    Anyway all things being equal, what Montana acoustic has the deepest most cavernous bass.  I'm looking for something that when tuned to drop D will put anyone in the room on notice.  I have another guitar that is very balanced, so the main purpose for this would be just the bass and the thump!

    Hopefully this Frontier works out because I'eve never been into buying guitars sight unseen, especially one this expensive. The place I bought ti from had a few ins tock and made me some videos of it being played that helped in the choice though. 

    So how are they? Did you guys end up keeping them?

  14. Who owns or has played one of the original collection hummingbirds?  How do they compare to the Standards or better yet how do they compare to the 60's fixed bridge historic collection?  Is the historic worth a grand more?  If anyone has a hummingbird and loves it tel me all about it, bonus points if the Hummingbird is your number 1.
