  1. Which one would I want? the one that feels and plays better, can't tell this from looking at pics. Wish I could, would make buying guitars over the internet much easier. Since gibsons from "golden era" are pretty inconsistent, maybe they scanned a one that looked more like the '64 pictured in the middle of this thread: https://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/showthread.php?124135-58-61-es-335-pickup-ring-question Here's another interesting link on this issue, as I said, I've no first hand experience http://www.es-335.org/2014/04/06/neck-angle/
  2. I think the way the neck is set to the body, how much it sticks out of the body contributes to this difference.
  3. thank you for your detailed answer. Since I'm waiting for a new es reissue guitar from gibson that I'm getting under warranty, I'm looking at pictures a lot to shorten the wait. To me it seems that the strings are actually closer to the body on this reissues at least compared to older reissues. Can't say anything about the real thing, I just know it from pictures. I be reporting when I get my 1959 re next week, but thats another thread.
  4. can you elaborate on what exactly is off with these reissues? Are you aware, that there are no current memphis models, since they closed the memphis factory last year.
  5. Quick update: I've been a little sick over the past to weeks, so was the guy from Gibson CS, that I've been talking to. That explains the slow communication on their side. Now I've been talking to some other guy and we're sticking to the old plan. I'm getting a new 2020 model guitar, but I have to wait (2-3 month, I guess under the new circumstances even longer) for it. I also talked to the shop again and I have to say I have a reversed opinion now. Gibson CS europe is great to deal with and I'm pretty confident it'll all work out. The shop on the other hand.... there is a saying in german: If you can say anything good about someone, don't say anything at all....mayby one thing: I will never ever buy there again.
  6. Yes I owe them nothing, but they owe me. First of all, the guitar I want (ed) seems to be not available right now. Since prizes increased quite a bit since my original purchase, I have to add at least another grand to get somewhere near the ballpark. Really? Won't happen, as I said, if I go the refund route, I won't be looking at Gibsons any longer.
  7. Though I'm thinking about the refund option, I seem to do this for other reasons. Besides the fact the dealer send me an unchecked guitar, the dealer - unlike Gibson - seems to do everything to solve this issue, it seems I got the replacement on their initiative, they always react prompt to my calls and e-mails and they gave my various options. Its also not their fault they had - at least - two defective gibsons in stock, guess they never dreamed of heaving a second one with a twisted neck - to me thats on Gibsons poor quality/ quality control (remember we are talking 2018 models, hopefully some things have changed since). On the other hand, Gibson customer service needs about 5 days to over a week to respond to E-mails and they did not answer all my questions or don't answer at all. Guess I'm try to talk to them via phone on monday and see what they have to offer to solve this. A refund from the dealer would mean I'm done with new Gibsons!
  8. Didn't know Martin is doing electrics, I'll be looking into that. 🙄 (I was actually thinking of getting another bozeman git, instead of an elcetric) And no, gibson did not stop making guitars, just seems like they come serially with a twisted neck nowadays, a feature that doesn't correspond with my personal preference, thats all.
  9. After I inspected the guitar I called the shop immediately. Since its a big box store, I talked to a woman from the return department, she said, she was sorry, but in the end, she was not the one responsible to send out this guitar without any inspection or whatsoever. I think, thats the way it is, when dealing with such stores or big companies like gibson. You won't get any single human being to take responsibility. She told me, I could choose something else from their inventory or have a refund, since gibson can't deliver a new guitar right now. Funny side note, after receiving the guitar I send an angry E-Mail to gibson customer service right away. A few minutes later I received an E-Mail stating, that they had arranged everything with the shop to get me a replacement. Well this e-mail was an answer to one of my e-mails from a week ago inquiring about delivery time of the new models. By the way, there's no way for me to talk to US customer service, but lying about my location, which doesn't seem reasonable to me. Right now I'm tending towards a refund and spending my money elsewhere.
  10. 😆that however did work.... for a few seconds
  11. I know, i was just trying to cher myself up. But no matter how you spell it, you're right!
  12. guys, this is one of the days I wish I never sold my trusty Les Paul, 28 years of abuse (left in trunks over night in the winter, thrown into drum sets, broke headstock three times, left in the car on hot summer days, you name it) but zero issues, neck straight as arrow...😢
  13. "K rap" is that a new hip hop sub genre I'm not aware of?
  14. So, the brown truck was here, guitar is going back tomorrow, guess what? The replacement they sent me- besides other small issues - has a slight twist in the neck! Can't say more right now, speechless!
  15. I'm awaiting the brown truck today, keep your fingers crossed. I must say, I'm o.K. with the NOS option, actually its cool I get the exact same model, just hoping its a good one and that the store really had it in store and not on display for the last two years. The communication felt kind of strange though, gibson customer service already gave me a list from new models to choose from. I asked about the various models regarding neck profileand time of delivery but never heard back from them, instead I got the E-mail from the shop stating what you already know. Whatever, I keep you posted, thanks for your concern and input.
  16. Today I received an e-mail from the shop, stating that since gibson can't deliver new guitars right now, I'll be getting an NOS one they have lying around. Its the exact same model I had, a memphis 1963 Es 335. Now I'm getting real nervous. I never doubted my old guitar was ****ed, never doubted Gibson would be caring for it, my concern was always, what can I do, when I get a new guitar I just don't like as much as the old one. Its not like getting a new laptop or something. Don't want to came across unthankful, but I told the story above, it was a long search and now I'm stuck with whatever they send me.
  17. Hello, just wanted to give you a quick update. Gibson customer service europe contacted me. They told me, my guitar cannot be repaired and that I will get a new one. Since they don't make the 1963 any longer, I can choose between different reissue models, guess I will go for teh 1964 but I'm not sure yet. Did anyone play the new reissue models yet and can elaborate on the different neckprofiles? I need a c-profile which runs down all the neck, the profiles that become more of a D as you get closer to the body (like I found on most es I played in my search) really hurt my hand.
  18. In Germany there's a 2 year period, so no problem on that side. The shop was willing to take it in and yes, they send it to gibson. I send an email to gibson customer service yesterday, but haven't heard back yet.
  19. Though I also vote for trying a vintage/true vintage model first, after reading the OP again, maybe you should just go with the one you played that blew you away.
  20. "You guys get mad at the stupidest sh!t. Grow up snowflake. you just can't f--ng help yourself can you.. listen pal, don't call me a snowflake. not mad, just don't put words in my mouth (post) that I never said (wrote) that said I'm sure we can both get past this, like adults should be able to, right?" As far as this line of the thread goes: You were the one who started embedding judgemental statements and offending language into this thread, so don't complain if it comes back to you. And yes, me too thinks the wall hanger /high humidity theory with reference to twisted necks is complete nonsense. Besides that, its totally not reasonable/logical why Gibson should do something about a guitar that was damaged by wrong treatment, as you were implying.
  21. Thanks for the encouragement everyone, guess I will contact the dealer again or gibson customer service directly to get an update.
  22. Sorry for not mentioning whats up with the guitar, I thought it was fair to gibson not to explain what the actual problem is, before they get back to me. But I understand, that people here want to know after reading through the whole story. The guitar developed a twisted neck, which seemed to get even worse over time. I took it out of its case and handed it to him and he said the neck is twisted instantly without a close look, after examining the guitar and the neck he advised me to send it back.
  23. Hi everybody, About ten years ago I started my 335 adventure. As a long time Gibson fan and player (Les Paul and acoustics) I started looking at es guitars and got my first on in 2010. Though I really liked the sound and the looks of that guitar, I sold it, since I could not get accustomed to the neck profile on this particular model. Fast forward to 2017: I decided to go for another Es 335, after passing up a few good deals on the used market, I found the big box store around the corner was selling Es 335 with satin finish for an unbelievable deal, went there, played 5 or 6 of them and took the one that stood out home. Though this guitar was really great, I finally came to the conclusion needed a nicer ES, the satin model was the cheapest model they had at the time, and I decided I wanted something nicer. I sold the Es 335 (which got stolen in transit, but thats a whole another story) , even sold my trusted and (ab) used Gibson Les Paul Standard from 1990, from which I was the original owner and some other stuff- I played as many new and used es 335, drove quite some miles to get my hands on certain models that I was interested in, bought some online, returned them, checked out more used ones....finally I ordered a brand new 2018 Es 335 1963 reissue from the Memphis custom shop from a big box store. I was really determined to send it back, like I did before, but this time the search was finally over. This guitar was everything I was hoping for, especially the neck and the sound of this thing sold me. What an amazing guitar. After half a year, things went bad for whatever reason. I could not set up the guitar probably, I didn't not sound as good as before, I wasn't picking it up that much anymore. As I said I owned and own Gibson guitars and none of them ever got babyed that much as this Es. I had it set up at my local big box store and asked them about what I thought was wrong with the guitar, so said its fine. So a few more month I still wasn't happy with the guitar I've spend so much money on I never spent on any other guitar, so finally I had it inspected by a good luthier, and he advised me to return the guitar asap. He saw a problem that no guitar and of course no guitar in that price range should have. So thats what I did like a month ago. Two weeks after returning the guitar, the shop told me, they send it to Gibson Europe to be looked at and have it evaluated. So now I'm here, with no Gibson electric waiting for something to happen, and I'm pretty nervous about whats going to happen next, and how much it will take to finally get the ES 335 I want, or if its just not ment to happen at all. Maybe I should stick to my cheap mexican made tellys. Any uplifting words or experiences with customer service in Europe are welcome.
  24. Damn, thanks for reminding me to order some of the leftovers. I use gibson strings on acoustic and electric guitar. Not because of the name, just I found them to be the strings I like best. The new brite wires (electric guitar strings) cost twice as much now 😳
  25. Damn, some of the old emojis are missing...whatever stunning in every way. Bad timing for me: Just trying to convince myself I can live without a maple acoustic🤔 I think these testdrivers should really state what pick they are using. Sounds like a thick one here. Really like to hear this beauty with a thinner/lighter pick.
