  1. I don't think so. Those Guitars with PAF's sounded great in 1959 when they were brand new... As is evidenced on so many Records of the 50's, 60's 70's & on....
  2. Bottom line... If you want the Sound of a 1961 you need to get a 1961. Even then the Pickups were inconsistent.. Some sounded better than others. You'll have to play some... I had a mint completely original 1959 ES345 with PAF's.. It spent it's life in a Closet un til I bought it in the mid '80's.. I sold it for a bunch of money.. I've had about 50 Guitars since then.. None sound as good.. Including my recent ES335 with Classics & ES Les Paul with MHS... For some reason they can't or won't build Pickups like those early PAF's......
  3. It's not that old, I had a 59 ES345.. LOL! I did sell it for a ton of money a while back.. I have recent 2013 Memphis 335 which I love.. And quite a bit of $$$ left over... My Kids & Grandkids have dibs on the Guitars they want when I go to the great beyond... The rest they can sell on Reverb or whatever they have then.. They will get close to what they're worth... I'm not worried about that... I do care about what I play today.. If I'm happy with it I keep it. If I'm not I get rid of it & get something else.. Simple..
  4. Wow! Great acquisition! How hard is it to find the Correct X Former & Speaker in mint condition? I've got one on my list too.. But, want mint original... Very hard to find.. You did goo!
  5. There is also a 4th knob... A Swell knob right next to the Bridge.. Not sure if it would be something that would get in the way & accidentally get readjusted while strumming.. The original ones didn't have it... They both look great though... The Black with Gold is stunning!
  6. I'm 4th Generation USA born American... I'm half Swedish Mom's side & half Norwegian Dad's side. I can't even stand the smell of Lutefisk... On the other hand I love the smell of fresh brewing Coffee... As for Vertigo, I don't wish it on anyone.. It's no joke..
  7. Depending on which Casino you've got & which Pickups... The Asian P90's are louder than USA P90's in my 3 different Cadinos.. Definitely learning how to work the Volume & Tone controls on the Guitar, as well as Amp, will help & also make your Son a better Guitarist..
  8. I play in a couple different Bands normally... One does a lot of British Invasion Period music.. We call ourselves "The Fab-Tones". We play a lot of Beatles, Byrds, Stones, Badfinger & other similar type Bands music of that time.. For Acoustic my J-160E is a natural.. It's just a really great Guitar! The other Band I'm in plays Originals. Almost nothing like the British Invasion stuff... Rock, Country, Smooth Jazz type music.. I use many different Guitars. For Acoustic Guitars. I do use my J-160E a lot for this Band as well.. No issue with cross over as it sounds great... I have Martin's that I use in both scenarios as well.
  9. George had at least one also... I just saw a 1957 CF100E on Reverb for $7500.00! I'd like one in addition to my Gibson J-160E but will look for a reissue..
  10. George had at least one also...
  11. Yes.. Indeed they aren't the same...
  12. Buy New & they come with a Ltd Lifetime Warranty. Also most reputable online Sellers like Sweetwater & others offer a 45 day no hassle Exchange or Return policy.. A hand made Intrument of any year can be a Diamond or it can be a Dud... If you can't get out & play any of them hedge your risk...
  13. Luckily I don't have a need for an AC30.. I seldom play out with my Twin.. Most of the time I play a DRRI or a Vox AC15.. Sometimes I use a PRRI or a modded Vox AC10.. I've not had any trouble with any of them & use them regularly. Other than an occasional Tube.. Once I had to replace a Reverb Tank in my Twin. I've swapped put Speakers too... Anything beyond that I take to my Amp Tech....
  14. It's pretty well known around Musician circles. For this reason I think Gibson didn't do their due diligence.. Hopefully, they're not going down that road again..... My Vox AC10 is a simple Amp with 4 Tubes, my AC15CC1X has 5 Tubes & is also simple in design by comparison... Both are trouble free & sound amazingly good.. Their design is simple enough that even a neophyte like me can mod & work on them... Why Mesa's need 10 Tubes, 3 Layers of stuff & endless Knobs is way Overkill..... They don't sound any better.
  15. Why? Just recovering from Bankrupcy & we're still waiting for Guitars like the USA Casino that were introduced more than a year ago?
  16. I don't find any LGMC-SG100F's? Mustve been a FSR. Does or did Sigma ever make an Electric version like the Gibson CF100E? If so what is it's model name...
  17. Great find! I have a great J-160E & missed out on the reissue Gibson CF-100E's from a few years ago.. Every Sigma I've ever played have very impressive. They look, play & sound close to my Martin's.. I know they're built differently but very nice Guitars.. I'd like to have one like yours.. Is there a specific model number? I don't see any Sigma CF100's.. CF100 is the Gibson model name... I imagine Sigma probably calls it something else? Enjoy your new Guitar & Get Well! Thanks for sharing..
  18. Reminds me of a guy's Guitar I used to be in a Band with that ate Cheeseburgers & Fries at Rehearsals....
  19. They change specs quite a lot these days.. Especially Pickups, Necks, Frets... The guys at Sweetwater are pretty helpful & go the extra mile when it comes customer service.. If you don't have a Rep ask for a Guitar savvy Rep...
  20. John & George both had J-160E's. I've read it's the only one of their Guitar's to appear on every Beatle Album. John played one before Hard Days Night & thru their Beatle a Career..
  21. My Solid Top Bozeman Masterbilt J-160E sounds great plugged or unplugged.. I play it unplugged a lot & also quite a lot plugged in through Vox & Fender Amps as a rule so I use Electric Strings.. I went through many different kinds of Strings in all price ranges trying to find some that sound great plugged in or unplugged.. Currently I'm using & liking Martin Retro Monel Round XL' s.. I really wanted a reissue CF-100E but they were gone by the time I found out they had been reissued.. I'd love to see Gibson reissue Solid Top versions of them...
  22. I bought a Bozeman Masterbilt Solid Top J-160E new 11 years ago.. Mahogany Back & Sides with Spruce Top. Of all my Guitars it is the most Played. Including my Martin's which are also great... I seldom hear these Guitars discussed here? Lots of J-45's though.. Which are also great Guitars... But, after playing a variety of J-45's my conclusion was this particular version of the J-160E was the one for me... Any other J-160E players here?
  23. Judging from Reverb there isn't any shortage of new or used SG's... You just need to negotiate... 15-20% discounts should be doable all day long.....

What's your budget? What kind of music do you play? What kind of Amp do you have? IMO a great 1st Electric Guitar would be an Epiphone Casino.. (The lesser cost version of a Gibsonn ES330). Even the ones made in China... Super versatile. Great Necks.. Great Players.. Inexpensive... Beatles, Stones & tons of other Artists play them & appear on too many Hit songs to list..
  25. If I can't get 15-20% off on a new Guitar I'll try a few more places.. If I still can't I'll usually pass unless it's a super special limited production bucket list Guitar... Even then 99% of the time I pass.. I'm in no hurry & I'm not distressed to buy any Guitar... There have only been 2 Guitars in the past 10 years I sorta wished I'd bought. But, I know they'll pop up in the used market & at some point I'll buy them if they're a great deal.... If I don't I've got plenty of great Guitars to play... SG's should be available at 15%+ discounts all day long... Even in this market...
