  1. I told the guy from the music store were i got my guitar from what was said on here.he replied

What I will say about the Korean vs Indonesian debate is that the Korean models are generally held in higher regard than the Chinese and Indonesian models. They will definitely hold their value better as time goes on, which is the more most important thing. Every guitar will vary and you will find good Indonesian/Chinese models undoubtedly.

quality across the board. I would always take a Korean model over Indonesian with Epiphone, Squier, Cort, Hamer etc. The time and energy and cost of production are all higher. People on forums will always agree/disagree, but if you look across the board on Google, you will see that they are more highly respected!

I think maybe at one time the Korean vs Indonesian debate could be made and most would probably say the Korean made was of better quality. With the current production coming out of Indonesia; I don't know that you could make the argument that one is superior to the other. In regards to the time and energy and cost of production...he may know something we don't. what i do know is this: Epiphone produces guitars by the thousands and use several vendors. It would only make sense that they would have all of their vendors build for the same cost (give or take a few pennies). It wouldn't make any sense for them to pay a factory in Korea $125 to make the same guitar that an Indonesian factory for $100. Like i said previously, you'll be the only one that can report back on this since you'll have both guitars and can compare build/quality/sound. By the way, i think you may have confused some of us when quoting your dealer. Use quotation marks if you're quoting someone. [thumbup]

  2. All i did was ask which is best .the replys are as if ive said korean is 100% best lol

i think most of the responses are to the guy selling you the Korean one [biggrin]

it will be interesting to hear your opinion on which one you feel is better though.

  3. So are you saying both indonesian and korean are as good as each other???

my official stance is i don't base an opinion on where a guitar was made. for all we know, there's a guy somewhere that has a Chinese built EJ-200 that is better than both of yours. Then again, it's all a matter of opinion and preference.

  4. so to update you guys it's been a couple years since I made original post. I had to take the pick guard off my L4 and I put it in a room and I haven't had anymore problems with the outgassing that I can see. It's probably outgassing in the room which I can't see it but the guitar is OK. i'm thinking that the sealed case that it came with contributed to the problem. because the reason I say that is because when I was in the case with the pick guard on it I was having these problems. Another reason Gibson needs to fix this thing is because if there is outgassing? that means there might be some kind of gas that submitted that might be toxic to human beings or carcinogenic. clearly it's some kind of plastic vapor which can't be good for you.

I'm sure if you were to directly inhale the vapor; it would be harmful. To my understanding, outgassing would only occur if it was in an enclosed area (like the case). you should be ok as long as there is air flow in the room. i could be wrong.

  5. Hi how better is the quality of a korean ej200 compared to the indonesian versions they have on the market now. Are the korean modals better quality woods?? My reason for asking is ive got a indonesian one .but ive all so just won a 2001 korean modal. From ebay Im told these are the best versions can anyone give me more details thanks

the Indonesian ones are pretty great. they're made by Samick and Samick makes great stuff for Epiphone. You'll be in a good position to compare the two and report back!.

  6. I just picked up and EJ-212CE VS Serial no. GG07010378. I have read that they were made between 94 and 99. Mine may be a Masterbuilt according to one set of info I read. The rosewood on the fretboard is the same as my'65 Elitist Casino.

It needs new strings and a slight adjustment to the neck but other than that it's in fine shape. Some of the design on the pick guard has been scrubbed off. The serial No. without the GG , according to the guitar dater project, says it's USA made. Not much info out there and I'm interested in any and all info I can get. I believe I got a good deal on it at $350.00 CDN with HSC. Any and all information appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dave

nice find! don't see too many of those. It isn't USA made though and not a Masterbilt. Epiphone doesn't make anything in the U.S. and the Masterbilt line didn't come out until 2004.

  7. I'm trying to find out what my Epiphone SG model number is & how old it is. It has serial number SJ04038551, 'Gibson' on the neck rod adjust cover plate on the headstock, others I have seen have SG. I know it's not an expensive guitar, body appears to be plywood, but it plays & sounds really good to me. Any help much appreciated.

  8. Hi everyone !

There is no public transport at all where i am & no musical store, and i fear to death buy a guitar on the net.

But there is a Best Buy store which sell a few Gibson, but there no showroom to see the guitars before.

So, about this i have two question :

Because i know how manufacturers work & does when they made a bad Job on a product, (to save money) they send it to a supermarket not specialized (in this case) in music instrument where the most part of the buyers & sellers are not musicians.

Is this the case of the Gibson Family ? ... I have worked for manufacturers for years. i know !

What about Best Buy, can i trust them ?

I am interested to buy a 2017 Les Paul Tribute HP or 2017 Les Paul Studio, i want to be sure.

I don't want to be rude, but it's a lot of money, and because i do not have any transport it can be very frustrating if something is wrong with the guitar !

    Thank you

    Daniel

if the Best Buy near you doesn't have any in a showroom; would you be ordering one without seeing or playing it?

if so, i would just order one from a trusted dealer as mentioned before. Sweetwater usually checks the guitar out before shipping it and would probably be the same price.

as far as Best Buy selling them...they get the same guitars as Guitar Center or any other store. the treatment and storage or what happens to the guitars once they are at Best Buy is anybody's guess.

  9. I'm guessing many stores sell Epi's to people who buy one as their first guitar. So I guess some stores feel they can get away with it, and do. I understand the boxes take up space, but at least put the swag bags aside and hand them out with each guitar.

No manual and no wrench is, IMHO, unacceptable.

not sure why you need the manual but you can download it at Epiphone.com

Don't have one of these but I wonder if I should contact them about the wonky Bigsby on my Blak and Blu?

Haven't tried to correct it yet, but it's really stiff and unusable.

I did get the softer spring that Reverend sells for the Bigsby but haven't installed it yet.

Really wish I got the one with the Trapeze tailpiece instead of the Bigsby.

Back to your regularly scheduled topic.........

what's stiff? the arm or spring?

  11. Man I am the threadkiller of all time. msp_sad.gif

If anyone could help us identify the Epiphone pictured above, we'd appreciate it.

Pretty clean except the MIRC "Used" stamp hints at the source of repair seam on back of guitar body (no neck involvement).

it's a Dot. without the Epiphone serial number; it will be hard to find out where or when it was made.

  12. Hello! This is my first time posting on this forum. I'll make it quick and get right to it:

I recently bought an Epiphone G400 PRO that was advertised to have Wilkinson Vintage tuners. As you can see from the pictures, the tuners say Wilkinson Deluxe on the back. Now, when I received my guitar, I noticed that the back of my tuners said "Epiphone" Deluxe (image attached).

I contacted Gibson support (and what a pain that was), and I was told that sometimes legitimate brands (such as Wilkinson) will "re-brand" their products when making them for specific instruments.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Everything else on the guitar is near-perfect. Aside from some high frets, the guitar plays really, really well and sounds amazing.

    Thanks! :)

I wouldn't worry about it. Epiphone is always changing details like this (most of the time to stamp Epiphone on it). chances are they will all have the Epiphone Deluxe tuners here forward.

  13. While this is a very old thread, I guessed there would be on the amp.

I bought a used one at a Trash & Treasure market yesterday for AUD$10 on speculation. No chance to actually hear it at the market and could only see if was able to be turned on. I took the sellers word it did work OK.

Got it home and it's in excellent working order, hasn't been bashed around and seems whoever bought it originally just left it lying around unused.

Sure it may not be the best amplifier ever made but, gee, it can put out some nice sounds (I plugged in a Taylor GS Mini-e), is reasonably loud for a 15W solid state and the chorus effects, while not brilliant, actually add value.

Overall an OK, fun and solid practice amp. Don't know if Epiphone still makes them and, if so, what they cost new.

they still make these but are only available in the PR-4E player pack.

  14. Hi, I just picked up this Epiphone Dot - the S/N label has a label over it and I can't seem to date it or where it was made.

    The S/N is 311562883

    Any info would be appreciated.

it's a factory refurbished guitar that was repaired or refurbished by a company in Tennessee called MIRC. they re-sticker the serial number before they sell them. no way to interpret to my knowledge.

  15. These are some pics. Also another indicator, no metal volume indicators next to the knobs

is this guitar a refurbished model? the tuners don't look original but I can't see them that great with the small pic. metal volume indicators could have been removed from the previous owner so I wouldn't worry about that.

  16. The guitar was stored in a bed room upstairs closet. The L4 has custom shop case which is super tight and plush. This is probably contributing to the problem.

But It was not just this guitar: A super 400 and L5 did the same thing. stored In a moderate human environmental conditions. I am not going to store them in

direct sunlight or damp basement. If you know these guitars, this is not a random problem. Why can't they fix this? None of the other guitars have this problem

especially the solid bodies or guitars with wooden pick guards. You guys are trying to deflect the problem. It is the pick guard plain and simple!. By the way if happens to my archtop gibson it will happen to yours. So watch out. Oh no, this could never be a manufacturer problem, right so therefore, I had to store them improperly,,? Right..

I don't think anyone was trying to deflect the problem; just trying to get a better understanding and gather information. I've never heard of guitars in storage doing this and that is why I asked. good luck.

  17. OK for all you guys that said that I had the guitar in the water or something and that's what caused the corrosion you know that's a crock of ****.

Of the three honest commenters acknowledge now is that this is a problem. Why can't Gibson the manufacture make a Pick guard plastic that doesn't do that !!there are other plastics that they can use.!!!

At a minimum GIbson should replace all the parts and the pick guard if this does happen..

no one said you had the guitar in water. everyone was wondering the conditions in which the guitar was stored. care to enlighten us?
