  1. Larry Young? First time I ever heard of and heard him was on this old LP And let's not forget this guy... Richard "Groove" Holmes Whitefang
  2. Well, you know, you can't do a "comb-over" without one. Whitefang
  3. And this late great was no slouch on the Hammond either. Whitefang
  4. It's really all a matter of personal taste. For instance, the only acoustic I liked in any kind of "burst" finish is a Hummingbird. The rest? Well, a natural finish spruce top dreadnought suits me fine. Don't ask why the Hummingbird is the exception. I think it's because the first(and only) one I picked up and played around with was a cherryburst. No doubt the reason Paul Simon made the switch. Back in the "day" whenever I'd see Simon and Garfunkel on TV it looked like Simon was a little kid trying to play daddy's guitar. Whitefang
  5. "Panama Red"--New Riders Of The Purple Sage Whitefang
  6. You mean country players like: or...... or Hank Williams Lester Flatt Ernest Tubb....? Those look like Dreadnoughts to me. But then too..... There's Taylor And Stills James, Stephen and even Paul Simon didn't move to concert or "parlor" styles until much later in their careers. Whitefang
  7. Well, beauty IS in the eye(and taste) of the beholder. And this eye is beholding probably the ugliest guitar it's seen in a long time. Whitefang
  8. "Saturday Night"--Bay City Rollers Whitefang
  9. Lemme guess..... He was playing Bach's "Air on the G string"? Will we one day see him doing this? Whitefang
  10. One of the longest jobs I had with GM was to hang those sheet metal car hoods and hood reinforcements on a conveyor carrying them up to the spot welders. Wore so much protection on my hands that only some areas on my arms would get cuts. And having a low threshold for pain made me more careful of hurting myself. Or less clumsy. Your choice. My Aunt Helen ran a deli type shop when I was a kid. She once cut off the tip of her index finger on her right hand on one of those slicers you see in delis. And she was left handed, but the machine was set up for right handed use as there were more right handed workers in her store. I'm left handed too. But when you're raised left handed in a right handed world you learn to make adjustments and do many things ambidextrously. Which makes most right handed people more limited in their abilities. 11. "She's A Rainbow"--The Rolling Stones Whitefang
  12. These folks have made this claim for decades. Always wondered what was behind it all. http://hagstrom.org.uk/images/mkt/hagstr22.jpg Sorry, couldn't find one with an "Https" URL. Whitefang
  13. I imagine the ES="electric Spanish" started out back in the day when many acoustic guitars were hollow bodied archtops used as rhythm guitars in big bands and earlier smaller "swing" bands and electrified guitars were just beginning to pick up(no pun intended) in use and popularity. Whitefang
  14. They sure were. On some cold winter days when they were outside I'd wonder why they weren't frantically tearing at the back door where our deck was wanting to come inside. On those cold winter days when the sun is shining bright. I'd look out the back door and notice them sitting calmly in front of the garage door. The garage door was white, and the sun was located as to shine directly on it. The dogs caught on that the shining sun reflected off the white garage door and sitting in front of it was kind of toasty warm to them. One day I went out here, placed a good chunk of cardboard on the driveway and sat down with them in front of the garage door. And DANG if it didn't get too warm for me to sit there for long! And the younger one, unlike the elder, wouldn't chase around the house after a paper plate with scraps they'd lick on would place a paw down on the plate so it wouldn't move. Whitefang
  15. Personally, I find nothing wrong with whatever the new "fashions" are now. As long as what's considered traditional is still available. After all, we're not talking about the electronics market. Whitefang
  16. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door"--Bob Dylan Whitefang
  17. That you can get them out for a walk is a plus for some. My Shi-Tzus would spot me coming at them with a leash and would dodge under the bed or any other place too small for me to get my fat azz under to get at 'em. And once out one would get hyper and start pulling me in one direction. The other would lay there like a large rock. Had they been much larger dogs I might have been "drawn and quartered". Rain and snow outside? Forget it. There would be no way to even get them out the door. However, the younger one loved snow. Getting her back inside when there was still enough unmarked snow to play in was a challenge. Problem was, that breed's fur is so fine that snow sticks to it and winds up being a huge, heavy clump underneath them that extra time in a small tub of water warm enough to melt the snow out of their fur and the time to dry hem off made the whole thing more chore than anything. 18. Yeah, sad. Couldn't seem to deal with being a one trick pony. Whitefang
  19. Which is what I like about Blues. B.B. proved you don't need to play 500 notes in 10 seconds to get your point across. B.B. manages to say lots more in 5 notes than others do in 50. Remembering that blues is more of a feeling than a "style" helps keep focus. I'm betting there are more here that can make that claim than not. There's been a lot of TV commercials centered on that lately. Mostly for some big pharma product that's supposed to help with it non surgically. Looks like a terrible thing to have to deal with. Especially for a musician whose fingers are widely used for their trade. I'm glad to learn you've found a way to deal with it and keep moving forward. Whitefang
  20. And now I learned Slide master David Lindley and session man Michael Rhodes left us a few days ago. Whitefang
