  3. Well... I returned the AJ to GC today. We did not bond. Put new strings on it and it just sounded dull/flat next to my D28 and Taylor 310 and the neck was not as beefy as I'd hoped. I ordered a used J-45 True Vintage from GC and we'll see... Played a Hummingbird Pro while waiting on the paperwork. The strings were old and was not setup but it had very nice tone... Any thoughts on this model? Thanks, John
  4. The picture is low resolution to meet the site requirement. The grain is very close together. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the reply. Measuring from nut to the bridge I get 25 1/2" Can't upload a back photo due to this site's upload max quota (daily)?

  7. Hello, Need opinions. I ordered this 2006 Advanced Jumbo Custom from GC. Not sure what makes it a “custom.” I am test driving it to see if I will keep it. I could not see in their pictures the center “racing strip” look of the top. The wood is a much lighter color where the top pieces join. Is this a flaw? Is it something to be concerned about? The guitar sounds pretty good but I will put new strings on tomorrow. I traded my J-45 in as the neck is just too slim for my aging hands. I like the feel of the AJ’s neck so far. Also it was listed as Rosewood but is actually KOA. Are there any differences in tone between the Rosewood and KOA? Any other Gibson models I should consider for a thicker neck? Thanks for reading, John
  8. Stringbreaker, I am looking at trading in my j-45 for a Hummingbird pro. I cannot get used to the slim taper neck on the 45. Can you offer a comparison between these two guitars neckwise? Thanks, John
  9. I played a new Hummingbird Pro, sunburst cutaway at GC this morning. The neck fits much better, tone is good, not sure if I like the cutaway or not (never had one in acoustic). Thanks, John
  10. Good morning, Had a J-45 standard for about a year. Love the tone but my largish (semi-arthritic) hand cannot get used to the slim taper neck. Looking for suggestions on another Gibson model that has similar tone and a meatier neck like my D-28 and LH-250. Thanks, JT
  11. Thanks for all the replies. Learned a lot. JT
  12. Probably described it wrong. I don't see the seam itself just differences in the color? of the wood where they are joined resulting in a visible line.
