A lot of Epis apparently have stained rosewood to make it look darker, unless I'm mistaken. So it's probably that.

In the context of Gibson this will only work on custom shop VOS finishes.
I've heard of people polishing up Tributes?

Let's not incite a mob thing here...

Ok thanks! And, we are talking with the strings fretted at the 22nd, right? Just tried those measurements fretted and unfretted at 22nd. It's quite different. Thanks again
Yep!

Wow, what a great post! I've been battling for days and this is the best answer I've found. So thanks for that @Pinch and @Fearomoon
Quick follow up question though (sorry if I missed that). What amps and settings did you use, like for your base tone? Did you turn the bass and treble EQs completely off, for example?
Thanks!
JB
Several amps at other people's houses. Nothing drastic, maybe mids up a little and bass down a touch. Depends on the amp. Low gain!
Happy to help. I love the pickups when they're set up right. If they're not... Not so much.

My wife was a teacher. They had a saying, "Never teach a Pig to sing, It both wastes your time and annoys the Pig." Always remembered that. At BNSF I had a friend that was serious about wanting to learn how to play chess. I spent 3 months basicaly trying to teach him how the pieces move. Trying to get past that, I was always going back saying, Thats an illegal move! You can't move that way. Anyway, That's what I ended up telling him. Lol. Chess was NOT HIS GAME AND HE COULDN'T LEARN. No wonder, every single day he had to be retrained at work I heard.
A lot of truth to that saying... It took me a while to learn.

I feel like I gave up hangovers more than drinking... I don't put a label on it, it's just not something I think about, so... The bad far outweighs the good these days, so for now, perfectly content not drinking alcohol.

I'm better at ignoring (IMO) stupid people, rather than trying to debate them or teach them things. It's a waste of time.

When mastering even two knobs is too daunting a task, Gibson has you covered:

Great if you happen to be lead guitarist in Priest and need a live guitar. If not....

You didn’t add the labor cost which would be required for most of us on a Semi Hollow Body ES..
If you negotiate 20% off which is pretty normal it be much less expensive.. BTW, who cares if it says JB or whoever if it’s a great Guitar? You can put your own name on it! About $1100.00 with a Hard Case. No Brainer for a Gibson USA equipped Epi ES.. No Parts & Labor required!
I've grown to like Trogly. Not much of a player, and I'm being generous here, but man, does he ever go over everything with a fine-tooth comb

Thanks. I did go by a local shop after I posted and saw many Les Pauls similarly set up, which made me feel better that mine was not a “ticking bomb”, if you will. Not that it was that big of a deal, but you get my drift. Thanks for responding…especially with good news, lol!
No problem. I know the feeling, so I like it when I can deliver good news. Enjoy your guitar!

Most Gibsons these days come like that (and have for at least several years). Do I think it helps with the sustain? I do. Can I prove it? Maybe, but not gonna tamper with a good thing.
Either way, yours is just fine, so you can relax.

You can let it go completely. That looks perfect.

They stated out with the Sex Pistols, then The Clash, of course talked about The Rats. Then I shut it off. I've seen many better docs on Punk. I did learn The Boomtown Rats were an Irish band. I didn't know that.
I think I meant to watch it but never did. Apparently I didn't miss much. The only one of us who can remember if he's seem it saw it the other day.
Could be due to old-age senility, of course.

At least Motorhead had the good sense and taste to write "Stone deaf in the USA", celebrating all things American.
-
I never tire of pointing out how ridiculous it was of them to write "I'm so bored of the USA" and then touring there.

They’re not going to Plek $400-$500 Guitars…. They don’t even Plek a lot of USA Guitars costing much more..
I know, that's why I said that I didn't expect them to.

Epi’s are great Guitars for the money.. In my experience the MIK & MIC are extremely well made. Of course they use less expensive everything! You can’t expect a $400-$500 Guitar to have the same Pickups, Electronics etc. as a $4000-$5000 Guitar.. Still they do a consistently outstanding job re; QC.. And the Guitars play & sound good.. Particularly the Inspired by Series of Epi’s… Which in some cases do have Gibson USA Pickups, Electronics & Switchcraft…. Some of them are Excellent Guitars at any Price!
Still if you want the best 335 get a Gibson.. Because they do use better Materials, Pickups, Electronics etc.. Unfortunately, not always the consistently outstanding QC though…
I have several Epi’s & Gibson’s.. I have no issues Playing, Gigging & Recording with any of them… They all do an excellent job for me…
The one thing they have to do is look over the fretwork. About a year ago, I played a few new ones and it was hit and miss. Get that sorted and we're golden.
I don't expect pleking but that Slash one would need a luthier immediately.
Of course, it could be the luck of the draw.

One thing: always try before you buy, and try several. Same settings aso.
And you're getting what you pay for. I would have loved it if Epi LPs were as good as Gibsons, but the difference is... The Gibsons sound better. Epis are good (when they get the fretwork right) - they are - but Gibsons are great.
There's no other brand I know of that will get you the Gibson sound. That's just the way it is.

That's weird. Oh well, probably sounds great anyway.
My 60s Standard doesn't have a bevelled pickguard. No idea if that's era correct. I'd never thought of it before I read this.

The hell it cant..... Every time I loop a Gibby over my shoulder, I feel like coolest old bastard in SoCal. 😄
Damn straight!
Once I got a Gibson Les Paul, I instantly became five times cooler.
I actually truly believe that, which is good because I can't imagine anyone else believing it.
