  1. I have a Zoom G3Xn Multi-Effects Processor, a MXR analog Chorus Pedal, a Boss Compression Sustainer, a Digitech Screamin' Blues pedal, A B9 electro -harmonix Organ Machine pedal. Also a Marshall electronic amp with over 80 sounds. I used to use them but not in the last several years.

Oh yes.   Plenty of tone in new strings; you get what you pay for with strings IMO, cheapies go dead much quicker.   The prices have gone up a lot in the last few years.

Also the different materials; I buy pure nickel at the moment.   I want to buy some chromes to hear what they sound like.

When I tried stainless steel strings at 1st I liked them, not now though. I never liked cobalt strings at all.  A couple of times I bought Optima gold-plated strings (Brian May uses them), very loud and clangy, suit some guitars better than others, of course they lasted much longer than other strings.  I have not tried coated strings of any sort so far.

Thanks JD, Think it was you who told me they were good the first time. Yeah, I to have experimented with all types of strings. I even ordered some out of New York once to try them. I did like Nickel also. Think it was Rab's who first suggested them to me. Or maybe it was Pippy?

But These Thomastik strings are the best I used to date. So I will stick to them plus they claim much longer use. What impressed me was my Gold Top has never had sustain before. I tried pedals and all sorts of stuff and when I put the Thomastik strings on it yesterday, it sounded almost like semi hollow.  They are long enough to put on the Riviera also.  So it's next.

  3. Is it possible for strings to change tone? I bought a pair of Thomastik round wounds in .010-.044's. and can hear much more sustain than the guitar ever had before. So I purchased two more sets of Flat wounds and both guitars never had the sustain or tone they have now. Expensive strings though. Close to 30.00 a pair.

Yeah cos the custom shop ones were so popular... Sheesh...  Ugliest Gibson since the dreaded Firebird X. I dont really care if it was from an old drawing, Theres probably a good reason he  decided not to make them in the first place. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I was wondering what others would say about that design.  Gibson keeps sending me emails a lot.  After that last design. I unsubscribed them.  Now Dietz music has a ES335 I have my eyes on. Now, according to Deb, I can't have two Red guitars. they look the same she says. So they have one in cream. Lol.

I know it was frustrating, but that is so funny. I can imagine Sundance doing that.

Do you know those Pet lasers like for cats? We had one for him. He was hilarious chasing it all over. It was rare we did it for him but he looked forward to it. He would not quit chasing it and crying trying to catch it. We have leaded glass, beveled windows  and the sun projected different colors all over the walls and ceiling plus the carpet. He went nuts over them when downstairs. I didn't even see the Jag guitar doing it but he did. Ever hear a full grown Doberman Pincher howling like a wolf? He was loud and would not shut up till I put the guitar on the rack.  Sometimes he sang or howled with the songs.  I actually miss him very much.

You are certainly not alone. There are a bunch of people like us, I was always pushing E strings into fresh air on Fenders.

I loved the Jag, Sundance wouldn't let me play it much. He kept barking at the metal  that shined on the walls & ceiling. He was louder than I and wouldn't shut up. I loved playing my surf songs and using the Tremolo bar.

I'll bet he was forbidden to practice at home.

Its hard to respond to anything about drummers without making a joke..

    My favourite drummer joke:

The drummer is sick and tired all all the jibes, the p1sstakes, the constant bombardment of jokes at his expense. The suggestion that he is not an equal musician, is mentally dull and is deserving of derision.

The day after a particularly bitter experience at band practice, he decides he's had enough. He's going to be a guitarist. He heads to the store and tells the assistant "ok then, I want a Marshall 100w stack, a USA Stratocaster, populated pedalboard, and a pick.

The assistant eyes him up and down & says "You're a drummer aren't  you ?"

"ok, ok, so what gave me away ?"

    "You're in a burger bar"

Funny, I hate to admit it but way back decades ago, I drove up to a fast food window  and ordered Kentucky fried chicken. They said we don't have any. I looked up at the sign and was at the burger joint next to it. I was so embarrassed.

Lol, I tried to turn around and look at him but couldn't with the seat belt on. She said he was sitting at the light going to town with two actual drum sticks on the steering wheel.  When the light changed he kept playing as he drove for awhile.  Probably when he finished his song? Haha.

I will clarify for anybody who even cares at this point.

I started the thread to vent about my being banned from another guitar web forum.

Things started to turn absurdly ugly and political here, and I ended up deleting my original posting, and the several that followed, accordingly.

    So.
Here we are with this mixed bag of nonsense, and I truly hope that this thread lives on in perpetual infamy, like some sort of interstellar probe that was only intended to make it out to Jupiter, but ended up flying right on out toward Andromeda.

Please leave your kindest regards to Uranus.

Rob told me  that White Fang was also  banned here too.

24” scale. Most people try to string them with modern “normal” strings, 10-46 ish. Too rubbery. 11-49 at a minimum. 12-52 even better. The Es are much less likely to roll and the guitar sounds bigger. Just my take.

Thanks for the info,  Like I said, I gave that guitar to our granddaughter.  I asked both grandkids, Which guitar do you want? Reagan wanted the Jag and Grayson wanted my red Gretsch.  John wanted my black & white Epiphone Standard so I took all 3 over to their house. That still gave me 6 guitars. Of course I told them my Gibson standard and Casino were off limits till after I die.

That was probably it then.  When my arthritis acted up the fingers got sore fast so I put 9's on all the guitars.  Now I purchased Thomastik Infeld 10-48's and put them on my Casino. I actually love them and plan on ordering some for the other guitars.

Hello, my name is Eric.  I was a drunk for many years, but now that I've been sobered up for a couple years, I just started trying to play guitar again.  I used to be pretty good.  Now I suck.   I am mainly here to research my 1982 Epiphone Spirit, which I recently learned might actually be quite valuable.

Welcome Eric. Practice gets that playing back on track.

No matter who you are, there is always someone better and someone worse than you.

Jimi thought Terry Kath and Buddy Guy were better than he was. I think it's simply a personal matter.

And to tell you the truth, I don't have a #1 favorite guitarist, but perhaps 20. I'd include the above,  and add Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Robert Fripp, David Gilmour, Alvin Lee, Joe Walsh, and at least a dozen more that will pop into my head as soon as I hit "Submit Reply".

    And that's only rock guitarists.

    Notes ♫

We saw Buddy Guy way back. Also several you mentioned here. They were all good. Actually anyone who can play a great solo is number one in my book as I can't solo much. just some of the easier ones.

I wouldn't worry about it, telecasters are ugly anyway!!!

That his a first I heard someone say that. I know a lot of guys love them.  Not to get on anyones bad list, I would tend to agree with you, Lol. I had a Jaguar and every time I played it, the E strings kept going over the edge.  I ended up changing the bridge on it which helped and now our Granddaughter has it.

This is terrible news.  My God.

I have many, many jazz and 'fusion' albums with Jim Beard on.

He was absolutely dependable - could play anyone's music - which is why he got called by so many people for so many recordings.

I saw him play live with Wayne Shorter.  He was in McLaughlin's band, recorded and played with Scofield, Metheny, both of the Breckers and sax player  Bill Evans as well as playing on and producing albums by Mike Stern and Bob Berg.   The guy was at the highest level.

Unbelievable that he is suddenly no longer with us.  A tremendous musician and composer - he will be (and no doubt already is) very  much missed.

We are glad that my wife and I had an opportunity to see him and the band before the Eagels came out. I was shocked to hear of his death like 3 weeks later.

chya,, right..  I'll take two plz.

Back in the days when I was still single I had like 13 guitars, a $43,000. 00 race car and showed Dobermans. If I didn't race or show Dobermans, can you imagine the fancy guitars I could have had? Lol.   I always loved Gibson the most but also liked  Gretsch.

Killer guitar, but I traded it for a Martin 000-28. Absolutely no regrets. That Martin is my #1. Like I’m Jimmy Page or something.

Way back, I turned down a Lucille for a Gretsch, for my birthday. Does the Martin teach you to play like Jimmy Page? Lol.  I wish someone like Joe Walsh would teach me to play better.
