I got a 50s style Std with P90s the day after Christmas last year. I like the big neck, not sure how you feel about those. But it is the Goldtop, thats the only finish you could get with P90 s. Fifties wiring if that makes any difference to you and it's turned into my favorite guitar. Well worth looking at if you haven't tried one

Tore my back up yesterday, it feels like I've been in a car wreck. My Les Pauls are both full weight and my Fenders aren't exactly light either. Old age has reared it's ugly head
-
I have both. Yes they do sound different but that's the whole idea. My 339 has 57 Classics, like my LP Trad but with the different bodies they aren't the same. The 339 is a bit more open, for lack of a better description but played wide open still has that thick tone we all love
A Strat is a single coil so it isn't going to have that full tone. It gets that nice clean glassy tone but go to the bridge and they scream. No, it isn't the full humbucker sound but they're great in their own way
You just might not be a Strat guy is all. I started on Fenders and have a Strat and a Tele which are different animals. You might be a Tele guy. They compliment a LP well.

This happened to me too when I got my LP Custom with P90s. Just had to keep on playing it.
It's a nice problem to have, with only one solution of course.
You have to buy another guitar..........
This one was the option I've missing. I've got 57 Classics in my Trad and 339 but with the 339 being semi hollow there is a different sound there. The SG has 490/498. My Strat has whatever came stock in 2000, whatever those are they're staying in. I did try some DiMarzio Area pickups but decided I liked stock better. And my Tele has Twisted Tele/ Nocaster pickups which I really like. But I was missing the P90. Not anymore ☺️

I got a new 50s Std with P90s the day after Christmas. Phenomenal guitar really. But the problem is this
If there is another guitar in the same room that guitar barely gets looked at. It's not like my other guitars are chumps. There is another LP, an SG, 339, Tele and Strat. All great guitars in their rights but the new one is just covers so much territory it gets grabbed first

Sometimes I just look at mine too. I start thinking man, those are some nice freakin' guitars. Then I remember they're mine. That's even better

Picked one up, put it back, nice guitar and all but wanted to try another

Third time was the charm
2016 Trad Desertburst
Cue up Oct of 2019
Had to order a 50s Style with P 90s, without a tryout which means Goldtop. Awesome guitar. Glad I took the chance

I put EB Super Slinky, 9-42 on all my guitars. That's SG, 2 LP, Strat, Tele and 339. They don't break and they keep tone and tune really well too. Like someone else said you're going to get all kinds of different answers

Keep what you have. Yeah the new one would be nice but I wouldn't give up two great Les Pauls like that for one. Finances aside, having a backup is always a plus

Beautiful guitars. And you got yours the same day I got mine. I opted for the P90 Goldtop though. What pickups are in yours ?

Congratulations on your guitar. I have a couple of Goldtops with P90's as well. 2017 Tribute and 2018 Classic. They're heavy but such nice guitars. They sound great clean, volume turned down, one or another or both pickups on or full volume, gain and boost. The "new" Standards with the P90's are so tempting!
I couldn't resist

Great guitar....
Why did it take almost 3 months to be delivered???
The story I got was that the original run of them sold out so they had to make some more. Had I ordered a few weeks before it would have probably been just a few days. My local store isn't a high volume seller. They had a Tribute model with P90 but not a LP. Yeah, the Tribute is quite a bit cheaper but I really wanted this one

Congratulations on the new goldtop! I like these 50s Standards (w/ P90s) they have out now A LOT better than the 2018 Classics. The fit and finish looks better IMHO. I sold my 2018 Classic goldtop because I couldn't run into one that didn't weigh nearly 10lbs, they all had poorly crafted fret ends that didn't catch the high E string on the nibs, poorly cut nut slots (pinged when I bent the G and B strings), and I also bought my first one (that I returned for another) that had huge gouge under the pickguard from the screw that holds the pickguard on the guitar (maybe GCs fault...). Another thing I noticed was that the neck pickups were slanted - i.e. not parallel with the strings which sort of annoyed me. I don't know if it was supposed to be that way or not, but I didn't care for it. All my other LPs neck pickups are nearly perfectly parallel with the strings, so I was under the impression that the P90s should be as well. Either way, it sounded OK. I digress... I do like what they have changed though about the fit and finish though on the new P90 goldtops. I like the old style tuners much better than the Grovers that were on the 18 Classic and I like the knobs that have the historic pointers too - as opposed to the gold speed knobs. I still think that the 2018 Classic goldtop was a good looking guitar - no doubt - but I think the one you picked up is just better looking - more R6 like. Anyhow, wanted to share a bit of my experience with the 2018 goldtops and why I like the 2019 50s Standards with P90s more. Oh yeah, I like that they used an amber colored toggle switch cap too. So in sum, I hope you enjoy the heck out of your long awaited goldtop for many years to come. Really classy looking LP! Best wishes 😁
I really like this one. It's my first P90 guitar. I'd played some, but never owned one. What is really surprising me is that as good as it sounds unleashed it's spent more time on my clean channels with volume and tone rolled back a bit. It just has a really full, warm sound to it that none of my other guitars do

Damn that’s pretty.... CONGRATS!!
Yes, it really is. And sounds just as nice as it looks. And surprisingly enough to me I've spent as much time on the clean side of things with the volume rolled back a bit as I have wide open. That's not my normal thing

Very nice - congrats. Tell us more about it. From what I can see it is a Gold Top Standard with P-90s, don't understand why it took 2 1/2 months to get it? Was it a special order with some special features we can't see from the photo?
Enjoy!
It's just your everyday 50s Std. The story I got was that Gibson sold out what they had and made another run of them. Had I ordered it a few weeks before I would have gotten it in a couple of days. The shop I use isn't a real high volume dealer so they may be low on the totem pole for small orders

She looks awful lonely sitting there on that couch.
Might be best if you sat with her, and maybe get to 2nd base.
🙂It wasn't there long

It does look kind of lonely.
Maybe a nice ES-335 to keep it company?
I have a 339. I like the 335 but they are kind of larger than I like. That doesn't mean I'd rule one one out completely though

Pretty good timing then!
Congrats. You must be very happy.
I am. It wasn't meant to be a Christmas present to myself but it was. The amp tech at the store suggested I mail myself a nice thank you note

Oh yeah, she's a beauty. You have to fight the temptation of spooning with it tonight when you go to bed.
Nope, spooning was not on my list of things to do. Broken headstocks on new guitars are a major no no

I believe in supporting my local retail shop. Great people to deal with and if there are issues we can deal with them face to face. And no porch pirates or weather to worry about

I have the 490/498 set in mine. They're great for straight up rock but not as versatile as some others. I am a big fan of 57 Classics though
