  1. Hey Seb, similar story here. I'm looking for someone to jam with. I'm in the Ryde area. Give me a hoy if interested. Don't worry, I'm not that good. Cheers mate.
  2. The quantum of rosewood used in instruments is relatively small compared to that used for furniture. You can prohibit export subject to the right paperwork, but in some countries, a blind eye is turned to wanton felling of 'lumber' be it whatever species. This 'lumber' is then used to make furniture for local consumption. Sure we have to safeguard species and all, but how do you regulate in-country use. I grew up in a country where you could buy chairs and tables made out of solid ebony. I'm sure you can still get them.
  3. Going to try it this weekend & let you know.
  4. Hi all and a Happy New Year to you. The general advice is to put a distortion effect / pedal in front of the amp input instead of in the effects loop. I got this Laney IRT-PULSE http://www.laney.co.uk/products/irt-pulse/ which is more of a valve preamp than your standard distortion pedal. I'm running a Mesa Express 5:25+ which has five 12AX7s and was thinking of adding the IRT in the loop to give me seven 12AX7s. More gain me thinks!! If the IRT works / sounds good in the loop, it will make it easier for me to wire up my pedal board. This thing has the I/O top & bottom instead of the sides which means I have to saddle it sideways to connect into the amp input. Just the way my board's set up. PIA. Will report back but would like to hear what you guys think.
  5. Just want some headphones mate. But, appreciate learning something new as I didn't know all this even existed!
  6. Unless you are into watches and know what each part is and does. That said though, it's pretty garish
  7. Hi - late back into this. I can't upload photos due to size restrictions
  8. Thanks all. I've found a shop that stocks all these brands and more. Only problem (maybe) is they are a hifi shop - not a music shop so I can't sit and play to simulate a 'real' environment. No matter, I'll give it a shot. Just in time to get the better half to put something under the tree for me. Usually the card says "To Me From Me". The kids usually crack with the "To Dad From Dad". Happy holidays.
  9. Them's some funky ear cans alright

looking at your gear list Ace, how big's your house and car / van / bus / B-Double??
  11. Hi all, I'm looking for suggestions on headphones to plug into my amp for quiet practice. Something that goes over the ear, not heavy, doesn't get hot / make you sweat, good quality sound, etc. I've found these online: 1. Audio Technica ATH-M50, M20 & M40 2. AKG K240 3. Sennheiser HD598 What do you guys use and can you recommend anything up to say $150? Thanks
  12. Fault finding = process of elimination. Disconnect everything and start adding components one by one. What I'm curious about though is the shop reported a buzz & suggested a tube change. Did you give them your speaker and cable when you took the head in?
  13. Sometimes it pays to wait. I had a hankering for a 1956 Reissue Goldtop with P90s - a 2013 model. Shop wanted $7,800AUD. Yes I know - BS! I waited, kept checking pricing on the net, waited....12 months went by. By that time I had $5K saved up. I rang the shop who told me they had sold out but had one interstate. Got them to bring it up, got the call "Bad news, it's been damaged". Hopped on down and basically it was a small dent on the headstock caused by a hanger. Nothing else wrong. Offered them $4K, they whisper, whisper, whisper.... Deal done. Anyway, if it is to be yours, then it will be. Upside? Everything. Didn't have to sell any of the collection & got a great deal to boot. Good luck with it.
  14. Ok - let's all pump out babies just so we can. Who cares about whether those babies will know their dads, or grow up with their dads, etc. Sure, may live to be 100 and have my kid get asked at school if that's his grandfather dropping him off. Maybe even 'hey my dad had me when he was 73 but died soon after. You should have seen how hot my mum was back then too. No matter, WGAF cos he left me a $hitload of coin. Thanks Dad!!" Not against having sex till I die, just unsure about the morality / social justice (if that's the right word) of bringing a life into the world when I'm that age. Emotive topic definitely - so opinions will differ.
  15. Apply clear contact to the back
  16. Correct. Will give it a try and report back. I think surfpup's right though. Thanks chaps
  17. If this was a 73yr old woman having a baby, there would be a $hit load of noise. Seems everyone's pretty cool with this. Why?
  18. It could be done, however any sort of building up of the divot using metal will require heat e.g. soldering or brazing. Even let's say you were willing to risk the fingerboard catching fire, you would have to find a metal that exactly matches the fret in terms of composition, bond, durability, etc. Given fret wire is an alloy with other trace elements, finding an exact match may be difficult. You would have to run some tests on the existing fret and proposed material to gauge the match, and more importantly, the strength of the bond. This will be time consuming and likely expensive. Then there are epoxy products, but again, there are risks in the application of these products. Simple is good - just get a re-fret.
