  1. I was actually wanting to work from blanks as I do when I set up my LP's or I would try and just get a nice bone with hopefully very few soft spots. I get the LP blanks from a online shop out of Houston but they don't have acoustic blanks. Thank you for the suggestions, I have seen Bob Colosi come up in other threads so I will probably go that way.
  2. Just got a new 2014 Hummingbird Ebony (that's right, NEW 2014). Saw online at Sam Ash in NYC they had a used HB in Ebony called and was told they had shipped form another store where it had sat in a case for year and a half when they brought it to their store for a customer who didn't buy they reduced to $2400. I had to jump on an immaculate new (other than store played) HB and low and behold it was exactly as promised and it plays as you would hope not muted or hammered. The only thing I am going to do is set it up to my taste and I am curious if anyone has some recomendations where to get bo
  3. Thank you for all the great advise, I tend to see a guitar I want and then buy it. After I bought my first new Les Paul I haven't purchased another used since, to me I enjoy being the first owner and as I am not picky as I have found that the top of the line instruments usually all play extremely well. Other than the 2014 Les Paul Standard, had to cut a new nut (replaced with bone) because the high E would slip off the edge of fretboard when doing circular vibrato (a'la Steve Vai) and sharp pull offs would also occasionally cause it to slip but the new nut with correct spacing stopped that pro
  4. Thank you for the replies, I have played both guitars at the guitar center in dallas at different times in the last few months. I seem to remember thinking that the Hummingbird seemed so effortless to play and the J45 sounded so balanced and really loved the tone. I will do some more homework and try to find more to play before I buy on or the other. Thanks.
  5. I am going to buy my first Gibson acoustic and would like feedback from the forum as to the preference over the Hummingbird compared to the J-45 custom. I have only had Martins in the past that would stack up to the Gibson's.

  7. I believe you are correct about the replacement and I have seen enough on line where I will do it myself. Still worried a little about how much epoxy Gibson uses on their nuts. Can't believe that they would let this guitar leave the factory like this.
  8. I recently purchased a used Les Paul from GC in another state to get the AAAA top in Ocean Water (only one I could find) and love everything about it except when I pull off on the high e my index finger tends to slide and I find that the string slips down and off the fretboard to the side. In looking at what might be causing this I believe my playing isn't to blame since this never happens that I can recall on any of my other guitars including a '71 studio and a '02 Jr. Was a little worried that this is how a bound fretboard on the standard will play but on closer inspection the nut next to th
