Wildwood and CME charge out of state buyers sales tax, Music Villa does not. The initial phone quote is just a starting point but no way I'm going to consider buying from a dealer that starts off by quoting MAP. I was very surprised that ANY of those dealers quoted MAP as they have all been mentioned as good places to buy Gibsons. In the past I've chosen to pay CO sales tax (I live in CO) at Wildwood to enjoy hands on access to their incredible inventory, but the option to avoid tax on internet purchases is melting away.

We hear this question all the time, here's a bit of an answer ... I called 4 dealers for a price on a new SJ-200 Vintage Sunburst, a guitar that carries an online advertised price of $5249. This is 20% less than "list" although the list price can only be found by visiting Gibson's website, none of the dealers refer to it. All quotes included shipping, paid with credit card. Name of the dealers and prices quoted: Music Villa $5249 Chicago Music Exchange $5249. Offered a 10% discount when it was obvious I wasn't a buyer at the quoted price. Wildwood Guitars $4299 Fuller's $5249. This surprised me a lot.

I'd only been playing for 3 years or so and hadn't caught the Gear Bug yet. I usually hit the Denver Folklore Center once a week checking out CDs and music books. They had a new J45 on the wall so I played it. Changed everything. That guitar had character, one that fit me just right. And the looks, oh my. I brought it home. Shortly after, I visited a shop that had 2 50's J185s. Had no idea guitars could sound, play AND look like that.

I never leave Colorado in summer without a very good reason. This would fit the bill nicely, have a blast. Consider Greg Brown's Eugene for a listen, it just might turn into a regular on your trip's soundtrack. Cheers Dan

Sitting in for some of a friend's set next week, so I've been playing the Santa Cruz D12, the only guitar I have with a pickup. Across The Great Divide, Pamela Brown, Ripple, Tom Russell's Blue Wing and Endless Sky by Chuck Pyle.

That is a nice J200, I suspect he has a nice collection of old Gibsons but I've never seen anything written about it.

New fan of Colter Wall here after picking up his first two records this week. Like the songwriting a lot, his voice isn't for everyone but it is unique and he's doing well. His show in Denver will be in a 1600 seat theater.

Sorry for the apparent confusion. I "won" the auction. The seller sent me the note I quoted immediately after the auction was over, before I even got the wheels rolling on the adventure that was to happen next. Step 1 would have been to request the serial. Step 2 was to refuse to pay because it was falsely represented in the listing. I was one of the few that contacted ebay during the auction. I'm guessing they may have contacted the seller and advised caution.

Apparently this seller DID get the message / messages. I hadn't even asked him for the serial number yet Hello, I just wanted to let you know that this is a replica j 200. That was why I had it listed for a grand. I didn't expect that it would sell for so much. I know that authentic J 200s sell for thousands. You don't have to make the payment and I completely understand. Sorry for any confusion..I will relist the guitar and be sure to make clear it's a copy. Thanks for your understanding

Was recently looking at eBay listings for Goodalls and at least half of the 3 dozen or so listings were from Japan.
