  1. Haha yeah that's what I love about alternate tunings. It also forces me to play sort of out of the box and ditch a lot of my boring old ways of playing haha.

I have a class today but when I get out I'm gonna try out DADGAD. Thanks

  2. Yeah you could still do all of those and you could use the pots to vary the amount of each pickup that you're hearing (middle or otherwise). It's a very reasonable way to do it IMO. Many people also install a mini switch to activate the middle pickup. This is probably the best way to do it because then you can have the volume of the middle pickup already set and then kick it on instantly at any time. It would function as a regular two pickup guitar with a third pickup that can be activated in any position. What position do you use mostly on your SG 3? I have a Standard but I use the neck pickup mostly.
  3. Lol I'm just the other way around. I don't want to part with my 3 way switch.
  4. I checked out some more of your YouTube videos. I love the Art & Lutherie open chord noodling video. What tuning was that? It was great.

In my last band we had a song in sort of an open d tuning. I don't know what it was called but if you strummed the strings open it would be a d minor. I also just recently tried open g and that's pretty cool too.

  5. Haha yeah. I'd record some stuff but I don't have any equipment or a computer. Also my last band broke up. I could play all the parts myself but I also don't have a drumkit or a bass. I'm in a pickle lol.

Actually I have some crappy recordings of improvised jams on my iPod from my first band. I don't think I can post them though.

  6. Thanks man. Your guitars are awersome. I love the Wilshire.

But I watched that video (the one that says 1975) and I dug it. It was very tight. It was 70s prog rock sweetness. You rock man!

I was really surprised. Most people on the forum seem to have all the toys but don't know how to play.

Not trying to kiss your ***. I just thought that was a cool jam.

  7. Hey man I was checking out your signature line and it seems like you have some sweet guitars.

Do you have pics of them? Particularly the old Epis :D

  8. If I had a 3 pickup SG, I would want to have 4 pots and a standard 3 way toggle switch. I would have a volume pot for each pickup and a master tone. I would have the switch so that it works like a standard 2 pickup guitar. I would have it wired so that I could bring up the volume on the middle pickup to engage it at any time/ position. And I would probably have it out of phase. That's probly the only way I would have a 3 pickup SG. I don't like the sound of the middle pickup very much so I would want to have it out of the equation most of the time unless I wanted to bring it in for some weirdness. That's just me though.
  9. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band- The Beatles. Haha I had to do something other than RATM.
  10. They can be pretty hit or miss. Some are great and some are not so great. I've played a couple standards that were good. I like the "The SG". I like Norlin Les Pauls, particularly the Customs and Deluxes. To be honest I don't like most Norlin SG models. I would get a Standard if it was good and cheap. Neogeoriffic has a '70s Standard that looks really sweet. Murph has a The SG that also looks sweet. I haven't seen either around on the forums in a while though.
  11. NICE! I'm not a fan of BJA but that is a sweet guitar! Did it come with that cool leapard case?
  12. My favorite are DR TiteFit 9s. They last a long time and I cannot break them. They sound good and feel right to me. My Tele had 11s on it when I got it and they were kinda cool but they were hard for me to play. Yesterday I threw a set of EB Regular Slinkys on and it's much better. I'm still gonna put the DR 9s on it once the 10s are toast. I don't know what prompted me to try the DRs but Im glad I did because they're perfect for me.
  13. Imo p90s sound great for Jethro Tull. I'm not sure whether Barre actually used a guitar with p90s but when I listen to Tull it usually strikes me as having that sound. Also when I crank up some p90s it gives me that sound. Then again my SG does a pretty good job of it too. Just because a beat up SG3 was listed for 1,200 doesn't mean it sold for that. I'm not saying the SG3 is a piece of junk. They're pretty cool. I just don't think you need to be so concerned about possibly scratching it that you sell it.
  14. Your SG is not worth close to 4 or 5 thousand. You should just keep it and use it. If you sell it the buyer will just bang it up too. It's not a museum piece and it's not vintage. They're pretty rare but that doesn't mean they're incredibly valuable. Just hold on to it. Is there a certain sound you're going for that only a 3 pickup SG does?
  15. No. I'm saying if you choose to get a pedal you should try it out. And if you got a pedal it might sound totally awesome through the Hot Rod. If you can come up with the money for the Laney that would be your best bet. From what I hear those are great amps. The amp will almost certainly give you the tone you're after. Good luck.
  16. You should try it before you buy it. Your Hot Rod may take it really well.
  17. Hmm.. A good fuzz pedal may do the trick. My Big Muff cranks out that thick saturated Iommi tone. Especially with my SG. You should try some fuzz pedal out. My version of the Big Muff isn't ideal for Sabbath tone but I don't care because that's not what I'm after.
  18. The thing is... Iommi didn't use these pickups in the 70s. He used these weird custom pickups. I forgot who makes them but a company makes replicas that supposadely sound great for Sabbath. Some total Iommi fan will come on here and hook you up with some info. You should also look into what amp and pedals he was using. What amp/pedals/guitar are you using?
  19. I call that the Cheeto burst.
  20. I would take back the feedback and buy the guitar. Even though he did that, you can still get it at the original price so why not? After you buy it you'll never have to talk to him again. That was kinda shady of him but I think you should go for it.
  21. Very nice 80LPC... very nice.
  22. I'm sure the wood is heavy to begin with, then there's the Bigsby... There's your 14 lbs. Anyways that was great. I started reading it and really got wrapped up in it. I love how he says let the solos "breathe" I think I'll try and do that. I try and make them sing but I hadn't though about making them breathe. I like them to talk too..
