  1. I wonder if that applies to their chisels. All my buck chisels are trash. Probably cheaper to just buy new ones
  2. If you type “CC Dutchburst” into google you’ll get more info than anyone here knows off the top of their head I would be shocked if the pickups are potted though. It is unusual for Gibson to pot their factory installed pickups, especially for a custom shop reissue
  3. Great looking SG. The guard and pickup rings are the chef’s kiss 🤌 What’d you use for the ABR-1 conversion?
  4. Lol yes those guys are pretty proud of themselves. And that dork who’s putting insulation on the grounded insulation between the pots 😂 Looks cute I guess
  5. Satin lacquer has an additive that makes it dry with that satin look. The satin finishes are not meant to be wet sanded or polished after their final coat. You can polish a satin finish so that the surface is smooth and shiny, but the lacquer itself won’t have the clarity of normal gloss lacquer Keep in mind that many Gibson guitars with “satin” finishes also skip grain filler on the mahogany, so in that case you will never get those parts looking the way they do on a gloss Gibson I understand this product is made for guitars but it’s probably essentially what you normally call swirl remover you could get a buffing pad attachment for your drill (separate pad for each grit) and medium, fine, and swirl remover paste and do this much more efficiently
  6. Of of the workers at the grocery store I shop at has been looking forward to this for months. When I first heard about it Ozzy was on the bill but had to cancel. Not sure if it was Ozzy or Sabbath
  7. But you posted the pic wrong in the same exact way 😄
  8. Looks great Steve. How are you liking the results? Did you remove the pickups, tuners, knobs, etc?
  9. Sure is a tough world for a boomer these days. YouTubers with guitars.. sheesh Back in my day you bought a guitar with cash or check. The amount of tone particles lost to a digital transaction is staggering
  10. That’s sad news. It makes sense why he was selling his collection recently. Hopefully the 59 stays in the family
  11. Btw keep in mind that while OOP you don’t need both volume pots maxed out. If one is backed off you get less cancellation. So you can further shape the sound that way
  12. I remember when you did that you were dissatisfied with the volume drop when OOP. Just letting you know it’s gonna be the same way and the way people make it work is by having an overdriven compressed tube amp and using the volume controls
  13. As long as he doesn’t mess up the finish it’s really pretty low risk. If he burns a cap he’s out like $.05 My advice is to go into it with a proper soldering iron which is powerful enough to create a proper joint on the pot housing. A powerful iron compared to a weak one is kindof like cooking a steak on a ripping hot cast iron skillet vs an aluminum non stick pan. When the steak hits the cast iron, the cast iron is hefty enough to stay hot. When the steak hits the aluminum the pan cools down considerably and has to work hard to come back up to temp
  14. I used to have an old little peavy solid state amp that was pretty much nothin special but sounded really good. If I could get that amp again I’d buy it in a heartbeat
  15. I need to mature some too. Richard Fortus sounds like Latin for a guy who lifts weights with his hog
  16. A flush trim router bit in the neck pocket would fix the problem in no time one of my Strats has the micro tilt. I think a traditional shim is better overall. It’s a set and forget type adjustment, not something that necessarily benefits from being adjustable
  17. I guess that the neck pocket wasn’t routed deep enough and that’s why the saddles are adjusted so high
  18. I totally forgot about and overlooked the lack of backplates These were made at a time when 300K linear pots were pretty much standard for Gibson. So if you’re like me, you’re going to want to immediately change the pots to 500K log with 50s wiring I know these are supposed to be pretty hollowed out for weight relief. Maybe the electronics go through a cavity in the bridge pickup route or something
  19. Don’t forget about wah wah pedals. I bet there are quite a few more of those out there than varitones
  20. No issues with the regular ones at all on my LP Jr double cut shaped guitar. I’m sure they’re lighter than the g force
  21. Rotomatics are going to be the most popular suggestion. Even better if they’re the locking ones. That’s definitely what I’d use
  22. This is a good question. Guitars with the red analine dye will fade to lighter as the dye fades away. Guitars with non fading red dyes should probably get darker over time as the lacquer yellows It seems like my 2006 SG has gotten a little darker, I’d have to take off the pickguard to see
  23. If you’re happy with your slash sound already, keep doing the same thing with the slim neck guitar and it should be the same
  24. I always liked how they had the carved top and back I’ve never actually played one of these but they’re nice looking
