  1. @kidblast yeah working in IT has its challenges I’d imagine. At my work, they have to make sure we are locking down stuff because the stuff we work on is restricted by things like ITAR. I sure wouldn’t want to have that responsibility - scare me something nasty. Our machines are so locked down we can’t even change desktop icons without putting in a ticket. They also maintain the usual datacenter where we store our code repos and such. Yet another thing that would scare me to have that responsibility. Wouldn’t want to be the guy who screws up all the engineering storage for the projects and such… so hats off to you, hope it’s something you enjoy. But anyhow 3 day weekend coming up here. Hope you have a great weekend and not working. If you are then I’m sorry haha! Hopefully you get the time off another way.
  2. I am taking the plunge - will be, literally - by getting a pool installed in my backyard for the fam. I am having an above-ground, oval pool installed, and can't wait to cool my butt down in it. The kids I'm sure will love it, and will have quite a few years to enjoy it like I did when my folks got my brother and me a pool in my kid years. I will also enjoy having friends/family over to enjoy visiting even more - yes "use" me, haha! So looking forward to being on a raft on a hot, sunny day, drinking a cold one. But a large part of my motivation again, is for others to have enjoyment. Not an economical investment, and costly to install, but sort of a lifestyle investment - and responsibility - the way I look at it. Anyhow, hoping for this to be as good as I can hope when it's all said and done. Expecting this thing to be planted in our yard around the second week of June - weather permitting. Can't wait!
  3. @kidblast Yes, the problem with tech is "people-based" for sure. It's actually amazing that things work the way they do and how fast it happened. I'm a computer guy so I spend a good amount of time learning a bit about technology and such. It's my job to function as a software/electrical engineer. Not sure of your familiarity with the field I work in, but embedded engineering I like to call it - i.e., working on embedded systems (devices with software/programmable features and such). I've worked for big companies that service the OEMs (Ford, GM, FCA, etc.) for quite a while now. I don't work in the auto industry anymore as I moved into R&D in an industry that supports military/law enforcement (and even consumers to some extent). Glad I got out of automotive! As well, glad I made a shift in the industry I now support. A lot more interesting than making vehicle modules for OEMs. And, a lot less demanding. So that's my background, I try to be sensible about how this "stuff" affects my life - because I know what life was like in its absence too, something previous generations have to grasp what it is they actually "have" (grateful perhaps to some extent...). My kids get upset with a commercial on YT they can SKIP after 5s or so. I remember having to be somewhere at some time (inflexible) to catch a show, etc. and you had to be subjected to ads - like it or not. You wanted to watch, you're getting commercials too. Whatever... They came into the world with this stuff, they know nothing else. Maybe bad analogy, but like an animal born and raised in captivity - i.e., they know no other way. Important to teach them the way I look at it. Some adults need education too, haha! Hey, I'm no angel, nor do I want to tell others how to live to my standards. I just hope I don't cause others pain and grief. Not saying I take others' crap, but I won't go out picking fights - common flippin' sense again.
  4. I disagree that there are computer games that are multiplayer that I enjoy playing with friends. Actual friends that I can visit in person from time to time. I like it that I can even meet up with them in a game online when I can’t visit. Things like this I say take in the good with the bad. Internet is the same thing. Guns, cars… life etc. one chooses to be a troll and spread crap online. But I have never had it easier to pay my bills, manage my finances, learn about things that interest me, have a conversation here… good with the bad.
  5. I can’t rationalize spending over a grand for a HSC. Hard pass. The “regular” HSC that comes with Custom Shop Gibsons isn’t cheap either. All factored into the price of course. If you spend CS dollars though, I’m sure a case that costs $600 isn’t looked at as a bad deal.
  6. Reverb isn’t going to let anyone involved with a transaction via their site take your money and you never get anything. You just had to deal with someone that isn’t prompt on shipping and has kicked the can down the road as far as they could. But nonetheless, I’ve had great experiences with pretty much all the stuff I bought, except for the Music Zoo… those jokers shipped me a Gibson in a box that had no packing whatsoever and but had a GAPING hole when it arrived. I may refrain from doing business with that seller in the future. They even said the condition of this used guitar was excellent. Hardly… one pickup bushing came out of the body, dings galore, basically was a fair condition guitar. At least they sent me a few hundred bucks to make the deal right. Things like this can happen so be careful what entity you deal with on the Verb.
  7. Oh man, I’ve seen this kind of rant over and over on these forums. It’s like the people who post these kind of things were born yesterday. At least this wasn’t a GC thread, because they openly advertise that you are getting about 60% of the money that they sell your used guitar for. At least that was what they said a few years ago… I just sell my gear myself because it’s what I found works best for me. I don’t trade or sell to “dealers”. I also deal with more stuff to some extent to facilitate a sale, but is what it is. I bought it for X dollars somewhere - on me. I don’t want a guitar anymore - again, on me. Seems like this one is on the OP too…
  8. People keep paying for crap at these high prices, why wouldn’t these companies want to keep selling whatever crap we don’t need where they are? Seems like all companies are looking for hikes to find out where the real demand lies. Why cars, houses, everything costs what it does. Pure greed in a diseased society. Whatever “shortages” - or whatever - goes away; prices aren’t coming back down… get used to it
  9. It’s a 2023 that has that going on, time to try again. Used generally to me qualifies a previous owner or even attempted previous owner - bought guitar then turned it in. Why would GC say lightly played as some detail about the guitar? I seem to smell a rat… my thing is funny business with guitars, hard pass. Plenty of wires, wood, and paint out there to pick up. Good luck.
  10. @kidblast I said my piece here about prices and that’s all I care to go on about. I am living through this American dream like the rest of us are. There’s been a lot of money over the years pumped into the system and the effects of those driving the deficit spending and whatever else is causing the dollar to buy less is beyond my control. Don’t know about anyone else, but I’ll pass on buying a guitar at these prices. Even used is stupid today. Like you said, eggs to guitars - all stupid. Someone once told me I was crazy when you’d start paying over a dollar for a candy bar… they said not for a stupid piece of chocolate. Haha, it even costs a lot these days to buy crap that is literally crap for your body. Don’t get me wrong I think LPs and Strats are great, just that these days, my financial gears aren’t turning for an NGD to share here… just haven’t run into ANYTHING I can conceivably want to spend what you have to today for stuff that isn’t really a need for. I have 11 Gibsons and I think I had enough for a lifetime. Glad I got them the time I did… if I had to sell, I’d make back at least what I spent then - and probably some too… as they say when in Rome…
  11. Both to me seem high priced especially the Fender. I’m just ranting. A lot increasing across the board… I paid $80 for Science Diet bag for my dog that used to cost $50 a year ago. It’s just bad out there today. So much stuff inflated price tag, so in all fairness to these guitar makers, they are just following suit. It sucks when the increases aren’t for luxury items like guitars but rather for homes and cars. Average people finance for an inflated price tag and inflated rate.
  12. There you go, learn something new every day 😀 thanks!
  13. If your first Gibson gives you any doubts, back to the shop it goes. Don’t overthink it here. Adios
  14. I couldn’t pass harder on this garbage. For that kind of money I might not have a mortgage. Made for the rich by the rich. Have fun with your facade if you so choose to buy “Kirk’s” Greeny. It was Gary’s first
  15. Gibson prices are always a ripoff. Buy used so you won’t have to take a bath once you decide to get rid of your guitar. It’s an abysmal market today regarding guitars - but you know, ymmv. I own 13 guitars and 11 are Gibsons - mostly used and bought years ago. No intention of letting them go, but when I do I’m going to gouge the price like everyone apparently likes to do in todays used market.
  16. Agree with @10K-DB a dressing is simple, less expensive option that should be explored. But, if I do a Gibson binding-involved refret, lose the nibs... It's not worth the cost to keep them - and people who do this kind of work typically don't like doing the job to keep that crappy bump at the fret end. In a perfect world, I'd say keep them, but significantly complicates the job. And for what? But each and to their own, you may feel it is necessary, have the funds, and know a guy that can do some exceptional work - because that's what it will take to do this right. Good luck!
  17. You could go for an R4, but I personally would like an R6 better because it has a TOM bridge instead of just a tailpiece.
  18. I think you got my point, no? If no, then I won’t bother to elaborate.
  19. The R8 will be no special switching, but come with quite possibly 57 Classics - maybe Custombuckers like they do today, but if I had to put in bet, I'm going with 57s. Both are great pickups IMHO. An R8 neck is pretty chunky - noticably... I mean, I have an R7 goldtop and R7 Custom - both of which are baseball bat necks. The frets between these are different though - tall skinny for the GT and lower and wider for the Custom. If you're going after an R8, probably tall and skinny like the R7 GT - that's how they make them today I'm pretty sure. I don't know much about the USA Standards, but I can share with you what my R7s are like. An R8 to me is basically an R7 with a plain top. My R7 is a rock machine though. IDK, I don't have issues with the fat neck. Depends on what you play I suppose. Good luck and post pics!
  20. I’d rather smoke then decide to pick up a gambling habit.
  21. I wonder how much you could actually sell the guitar for. If you spent the $50k to get the meet with Kirk part then try to recoup the costs by selling, that’s nuts! Just seemed like a pile of nonsense to dole out that kind of cash for a whole lot of not.
  22. Just remember we are all in this together 😀
  23. The wind and snow killed my Santa blow-up decoration we had on our front lawn. A loop where a tent stake goes through to keep it in place ripped off and that was that… Well there’s always next Christmas 😀
  24. @merciful-evans, I can't think of a non-family/friend person in this world I would ever want to pay $50k to visit . And if it was a family/friend, would depend on who that is, haha! Also agreeing not to resale the guitar with Gibson... Just seems like a stupid thing to go for. I mean, if you're rich, maybe it doesn't matter what you spend $50k for, especially if you wipe your hind end with that kind of dough. I saved up for my R9 and it was about 10% of the cost of this Hammet Greeny. I like my R9, and I feel it was worth it to me, but I digress, this guitar is not worth $50k and all the additional pieces in the deal to me don't add up.
  25. If it is a Custom Shop Reissue, you should at least get the COA (certificate of authenticity). That's really the only piece of "candy" you get that's worth it. If they are skimping out on those - which I'm betting they aren't - then that would be bogus. For the record, I didn't get much with my R9 either. Some things here and there, but looking for the COA when I get the CS stuff. I haven't sold any CS Gibsons, but if I were, people look for these with the purchase. Why it is this way, I guess it is what it is. Find your COA...
