    Knobs

Hello all, I have two quick question on knobs, I have two guitars a Gibson 1994 SG special and a 2016 Epiphone G-310. Anyway I'd like to change the knobs on the epiphone to witch-top style knobs. Should the old ones just pull off or is something else required? Second question, on the Gibson some of the top hat knobs are very loose, like if you flip the guitar upside down and shake it some of them would just fall to the ground. Are new knobs needed? Just thought of a third question, pick-up covers. The gibson has no covers can I just buy the set off Gibson's website or do I need to find them elsewhere. Thanks, AF
  5. Thanks for your info. Yeah as of now I use an electronic tuner but I would like to go by ear, I kinda already do...I'll start to tune the strings then play like an E power chord and if it sounds right I leave it etc. Also as far as I can tell I think the "buzz" was the way my hand was placed because I no longer notice it. As far as what strings were on it before I have no clue, I used them for a day or so then cut them off. Even though people keep telling me to do it myself I might have someone do it for me once and have them show me as much as the can, although at the same time I feel like it something I should just do myself. Again thanks for the info, keep rocking, AF
  6. Thanks for the information, I might go to a shop and have them do it but ask if the can give me some points on how to do it myself. Although I'm sure once I start doing it I'll be like "Now why the hell did I ever take this somewhere". Thanks again, Keep Rocking, AF
  7. Did you add pick-up covers? I've got the same year SG special and mine has no covers, but I did consider adding some. If you did add them let me know where you got them from. Keep Rocking. AF
  8. Alright I much appreciate the information given, I will probable give it a try myself. I just need to do a bit more reading/watching. Again thanks for your help. Alco
  9. Tuning is almost always in standard and when I got the guitar (Novmember 2017) I cut the strings on there off and put on Ernieball super slinkys, I play for an hour or two almost ever day. Action...? Intonation...? Thanks for the info, Alco
  10. If this helps you...I have been playing the guitar since last November and hand no problem playing cords or anything, but I do sometimes get a buzz, is it just because I only have been playing a year and maybe my hand is not it the perfect spot or does the guitar need looking into? Thanks for your info. Alco
  11. Gotcha guess I have some deciding what to do...I would love to learn how to do it but I just don't have the know how. I hate to pay someone but I just want to play! Thanks, Alco
  12. As far as I know it was never touched, except the neck crack which was professionally repaired by the previous owner. Other than that I don't know what may or may have not been done. Thanks for the info. Alco
  13. Great points, I would like to learn how to set my guitar up at some point, but it does make me a bit nervous working on my Gibson. Thanks, Alco
  14. Hey just wanted to say thanks for what you said specifically "he doesn't know what to do, what to look for or what is even wrong if anything." because that's where I'm at. I'm just reading through all of the replies and once I do I will look and see if I need to do something or not. Thanks, Alco
  15. Hello, Now I might be asking a dum question but I am no guitar tech so I am just unsure...I have a 1994 Gibson SG and I was not sure if I should have it set up/tuned up, I don't think that is the right terminology but again I am no expert. I guess my question is what should I look for/listen for to tell me if it needs to be set up. I apologize if I am just wasting people's time but hey I'm new and no guitar tech. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Alco
  16. Awesome looking, even though it's beat up looks better that way. How do the "Powerage" pick-ups sound? I've been looking for a good pair. I've got an 1994 SG special and love it. Keep rocking. Alco Flower
  17. Okay, interesting. Thanks for the info, I considered contacting Solo Dallas but I assumed they would kinda just blow me off. But if you say there is a chance I may try it. I have no intention to "Screw over" Solo Dallas in any way, I am happy to pay for a unit. But like I noted before if they just jack the price because they can, because that's what Angus uses, that's when I'm like no way. It may take some time to decided what to do. Thanks for the info. 18. Okay thanks for the info, I will look into that. One thing I could try is get both a boost pedal and a compressor pedal + the Schaffer and see what sounds better to my ears. Then just return either the Schaffer or the 2 pedals. Again thanks. Alco Flower
  19. Okay, first off I know this is not about Gibson in particular but I wanted some opinions. I've been thinking about getting "The Schaffer Replica® ‘Classic’ Pedal by SoloDallas®: TSR4" but once I saw the price tag I cringed . Is it just a black box with a foot-switch and lots of boost, or will I be able to get a boost pedal for much less that should do the same job? Gear I use a Marshall Haze 15 and a 1994 Gibson SG special and I have a electro harmonix crayon 76 overdrive. I hate the fact that they probable make it for at most $50 and jack the price, and screw people who just can't afford it but who would love to have one. Please let me know, thanks rock on. 20. All I can say is that sucks. I must say with the way that looks and what people have been saying I'm sure glad that I got a used 1994 Gibson SG, good luck. Alco Flower
  21. For pedals I use a MXR M234 Analog Chorus Pedal and for overdrive I've got a Electro-Harmonix CRAYON 76 Full Range Overdrive Pedal, to be exact I just bought that 76 overdrive yesterday so I don't have it to try yet. I did find a 1994 Gibson SG for a good price used, of course, and I like it a lot. It's nice to use the Epiphone as a "test" guitar, just testing and trying things on that, that way if I have to work on the Gibson I have a better idea of what I'm doing. Also I've got a Marshall Haze 15, along with the Vox ac15c1. Thanks for the info I'll look in to the pick-ups. Thanks! Alco Flower
  22. I went in and I found I didn't even have to take the switch out. Nothing was broken it is just worn from time and time again of flipping it up and down. So..., I took needle nose pliers and squeezed up on the two contacts coming of the switch, the helped a bit but it's just old and worn. If it truly fails I'll fix it but for now I will just keep rocking the way it is. Thanks for your information! Alco Flower
