  1. I was thinking staying in the gibson line, but maybe going maple-y. A J200, or dove for sqaureshoulder dred, or what are the small bodies - nick lucas.
  2. If this isn't an advertisement for retirement, I don't know what is! And congrats on the J200... just wow, awesome, cool!
  3. Will you be playing bass live, or is this for recording or other purposes - really is sweet
  4. I'm a ways away from the opportunity to try retirement out, but I'm pretty sure i'd be good at it. Can you say open mic circuit superstar...:)
  5. Time to rock out some Primus my friend. Go slap crazy on that beast!
  6. Very cool Saturn, we've got a long ways to go, but some things are starting to get figured out. Love to hear of any gigs, and 3 in week - woo hoo! And what a spot!
  7. I think if I could, I would retire from what I’m doing, and take up what notes n is doing. That would be a type of work I could do in retirement.
  8. i see there's 2 ways to come at it, first is can you save enough, second is have you figured out how little you can live on and still live a happy life. I know a few people who crunched the numbers, scaled back a little bit and took the R word by the horns. 'luck to you.
  9. You know if it fills a hole, and actually minimizes equipment you have to lug... that's pretty cool. I think it would take someone knowing the sound they want to get to really be able to use it, so kudos to you. The kid must be psyched with having a sale as well.
  10. That's awesome! you got to set up in your driveway and demo all your new gear for the neighbors!
  11. Here's your opportunity to maybe a hone a few of those corners...
  12. Super bummer, but glad it will be resolved quickly. Do you have a specific guitar lined up to plug into it first?
  13. So here's a friendly challenge for you, take your version and slide it on out. See what type of swampy blues you can create... love to hear it. 'worse' then willie nelsons....' i wouldn't say worse, just maybe a little more worn in.
  14. Had a satin finish guitar... polished it. doh. And agree 100% - your guitar, do what you want, as long as it's for playing and not collecting.
  15. If I was to stray from the mother brand... I'm thinking I would be comparing that taylor to one of those matons BK keeps going on about. But I'm a CW or hummingbird, LG and D18 away from making those types of comparisons. Looks pretty cool, one of the nicer options I've seen, thx for the link.
  16. There's a book about Jim Morrison that's pretty cool. Something like 'the arrow flies' or something. Really liked him back in the day... that book helped in that direction. I since have seen quite a bit about him, and really not all that impressed anymore.
  17. Is this video, or just audio - either way, pretty cool. I love the Beatles
  18. That's a slippery slope you're going down my friend (meant in jest). In reality, Taylor seems like a company that has it together from developing a vision and executing on it. Seems like Gibson's new management has got a handle on quality, and I'm liking the historic line up as a vision thing so maybe Gibson's getting there. I could see myself getting a Taylor, but it's 2 more Gibson's and a Martin away from the top of the list..
  19. Had the strap slip off my end pin this morning... had my hands around the guitar neck, so caught it before it hit the ground, but it made me come read this thread through again looking for a good lock. Seems like a smart thing.
  20. I typically use the d'addario strings and go between PB and 80 /20s, and have started to just change them when they start to fail, not due to sound. It's typically the G string which goes first and I'd say 3-4 months in is when I'll notice a notch in it... usually at the 3rd fret. I feel the 80/20s fail before the PBs. I do love the sound of new strings when I put them on, but rarely do I pick up a guitar play it, and say these strings need to be changed... I just try to make whatever i'm playing sound as good as possible with the magic in my hands. sometimes that magic is better than other times.
