  1. It's funny ... The thread's title is exactly how I don't feel about the Gibson forums anymore ... "appreciation" or the lack thereof. So making a post like this only seems so mostly appropriate in this thread, in particular. There is a decidedly lack of interesting new threads, and some very questionable posts for the viable new threads that do come into being. As such, I am announcing my departure from the forums for at least a good while. I am a huge fan of Gibson guitars, so I am sure it will probably be only temporary ... or not. Don't worry ... you won't miss me. : )
  2. Wow, fancy ... super good looking guitar. I would suggest that since the guitar market is hot, price at the high end of whatever band you were thinking.
  3. Yes, thank you. Wow ... unless there was something really hideous in person that is not readily seen in the pic, uh, that guitar looks great to me.
  4. Yes, but the R's are very good about holding their value.
  5. You resurrected this 6-yearl-old thread, bro. So you gotta post a pic of your guitar. Rules are rules ... Let's see it! And welcome!!!
  6. "New to Gibson" or "new to guitars"? Not a snarky comment ... I only ask as the neck binding is clearly visible in pic you posted, and neck binding is not a "only Gibson" thing.
  7. LOL ... yes, good call. Went down the completely wrong path. I shouldn't have posted anything ... LOL
  8. Eric -- Thanks for the detailed info. Maybe at some point you can post some pics of your killer guitars in these forums. Welcome!!!
  9. I think it was originally the natural finish. But someone since has painted it white, so it is now going to be used for a "costume guitar" by the OP. And the OP is asking us if that is a good idea. At least, that is what I understood ... maybe not correctly, though ...
  10. Can we see pics of the "flamed maple red" of the 'before' finish, please? I get that it has some used mojo, but that sounds nice.
  11. We had no problems -- There were no sparks getting into any of the beers, and no beers were spilled. We were very careful, you know. 🤪
  12. The local big fireworks was in our neighborhood, plus lots of illegal (Wyoming-procured) huge stuff going on around us ... plus we had our own fireworks too. Oh, and beers. Fun stuff. Great country!
  13. Yes, and it includes the OP's "Glacier Burst" (second from right). So, my guess is that GB was not provided the whole platte of colors, with Glacier Blue excluded but provided in "limited" numbers. But because that finish was not "limited" for the USA consumption, there will likely be a lot of them out there. So ... you got a beautiful blue guitar. Just enjoy playing it, and don't be concerned over it being particularly rare. I am sure it is awesome!
  14. Agreed w/ Rabs, the "normal" 2019 ES335 Blueberry Burst had purple in it. Your guitar looks better IMO.
  15. EVH and Malmsteen are two totally different animals. It is okay to not like either of them, but they are universes apart in terms of music and guitar playing.
  16. Fair enough, and very well said. What can I say?? I am Sicilian and still harboring deep personal grudges. It's in my DNA ... (LOL)
  17. Yes, and Eric Clapton wanted him too. ALTHOUGH, neither wanted Neal to play lead for them, Hmmm. Also, even the clip you provided was "okay". Neal Schon gets mentioned with some rarified air that I don't feel he deserves at all. Compared to -- just for example -- Buck Dharma, Pat Travers, or Scott Gorham, Neal Schon is at best an "also ran" ... i.e., not that great. And here is the real RUB on Neal Schon ... When I was a young 18-year-old guitar player about to graduate high school in the SF Bay Area, I went to an air-show with my (ahem, very attractive) 16-year old girlfriend. And who is there?? Neal f-n Schon and Jonathon Cain. So, ol' smooth Neal starts trying to pick up my girlfriend right in front of me. Really, Neal??? You are friggin' rock star, and you are trying to steal my 16-year-old girlfriend??? And, no, if you were wondering, she did not leave with him or take his number. Neal Schon is a straight up ******bag as a human being ... and his guitar playing has always been technically good, but second rate, at best. Oh, and I am soooooo glad that Steve Perry ignores his incessant requests to "come back into Journey, and we will fire our existing lead singer because I feel no loyalty to him at all ..." (ummm, now would you like to know how I really feel?? LOL)
  18. Referring to Neal Schon's guitar playing?? Agreed!!!!!
  19. Agreed -- I could google it, but don't want to know. Dee-dee-dah-dee-dee ...
  20. Eddie's greatness was so extensive that it would just flow into people that were in his presence. This picture exemplifies that. Lord knows Michael Anthony's bass playing sure needed it (he kept that job because of his stellar background vocals that Dave absolutely needed and depended on). The only reason he was allowed a bass solo during a VH concert was because the rest of the band just wanted the 10-minute break, and nothing related to competent bass playing. Eddie used to refer to him as his "Disneyland" bass player ... pretty funny. Back to the guitar, though ... I had a buddy with a mahogany-body Explorer no-name copy from the early 1980s that looked just like that. His was from Japan, I believe, and was a great guitar. For all the crap copies that existed at that time, this was not one of those. His was a VERY good well-made guitar. My buddy and and his brother were both stellar lead guitar players (his brother was flown out from California by Gene Simmons to audition for KISS after the firing/leaving of Ace Frehley as a minor related anecdote, which was a big deal in our little circle of high-school musicians.). This guitar looks like one of those. If so, this is a nice little find. Even the fake-alligator flimsy chipboard case looks the same.
  21. Point definitely taken -- The thing is that it was the guy's first post in this forum about a pretty unique Les Paul that he was getting. This forum could use people like GuitaRalph. I, for one, am pretty interested in whether he gets that guitar, and how well he likes it considering the guitar's uniqueness.
  22. I am not a fan of gold hardware either. However, the gold hardware seems to meld well with the finish color. And the quilt top is no more ostentatious than the heavy striped tops that are so common now, and the abalone is not that crazy looking compared to MoP. A little blingy? Yeah, but not crazily so. ... not to me. While definitely not for me, I think it is a nice looking Les Paul. Just my opinion, though ... As for the lawn thing, I just REMOVED my lawn to put in xeriscape. Because yelling at all the rabbits defecating everywhere on it 24/7 was getting me absolutely nowhere. Boy, I showed them, though ... Guitaralph: Did you end up getting the guitar??
  23. Does poor Guitaralph have to get off your lawn too? Yikes ...
  24. Canada's number one export: (sorry, I could not pass it up ...)
