1. Funny how the vintage archies never bring the price of a good 'ol working man's flattop.
2. I will take that Mustang though.
3. I was 8 in '68 and HATED guitar lessons my mom forced me to take at the local Catholic school. I used to hide in the gully so I wouldn't have to go and learn Cumbya My Lord or some other stupid song. But they changed teachers mid-year and the long haired, brown eyed hippie chick who took over had me smitten. I was in love with her and later her Gibson Dove and I stuck it out and still can play a mean Cumbya. Thanks Mom! Just had her over for brunch today. 84 years young and still going to the same church were I took those lessons so long ago.
4. I usually just sit on my hand till it goes to sleep and than it fells like a totally different persons hand.
5. My guitar always sounds better after I "brush" my pipe.
6. Take it down to your nearest nail salon.
7. Like the older Birds for the neck width. Were peoples fingers fatter before 1964?
8. Mark Agnesi stepped on the cord and broke the inter webs... It would appear that Gibson has pulled all its official videos from YouTube worldwide. Another online rumour also suggests that Mark Agnesi has been fired from the company too! Not true he says on his instaface@MarkAgnesi Nice to see everybody again I usually just lurk around unless I can think of something witty to say...Which is why you don't hear from me that often
9. I thought Fauci had the corner on beagles?
10. The face of my old hummingbird had been painted in the '60's a blue color by some rope smoking LSD crazed hippie and a later owner had sprayed a Kriylon black enamel over it and called it macaroni. In this case I chose to strip it. Not touching the beautiful natural mahogany back and sides that had not been touched that had been checked to perfection by time and weather. I sprayed the front with black lacquer, let it cure over the course of several months, scraped back the binding and did my best Tom Murphy on the top. I guess what I am trying to say is the guitar will tell you what is needed to be be the best that it can be. Never too much but you have to be proud of you final result. And in your case what will make the customer happy. I, too worked in the automobile refinish and custom world having worked my way through school working for the great Sam Foose in Santa Barbara. So i know a thing about custom paint and finish. Funny thing is I now love an original patina and rust job much better than a sparkling candy apple paint job and, I think, this applies to guitar finishes as well. Best of luck on your new adventure! 11. Don't know if you could drive my truck it's 80,000 pounds of new Peterbilt hauling 95 degree crude oil. But I do love the song! And yes my Hummingbird is in the sleeper!
12. The L5 board is original and Norm stated it was super rare. Believe it or not as I dug into the inside someone in the '60s had painted the whole guitar a periwinkle blue! It probably said "Stop the War!" or "This machine Kills Fascists" He has a beautiful example in his book of this same guitar in a cherry sunburst with a untouchable price tag. I call her "Billie Blue"
13. I am looking forward to a little spot we have in Montana on the Boulder and Yellowstone rivers where I can fish and drink (not necessarily in that order) As my dear ol' dad used say " You can't drink all day... If you don't get started in the morning!" cheers friend.
14. That top looks like candy. Impressive!
15. I got my '64 bird from Norm. A rare bird with a L5 fretboard for a reasonable price. Granted, a ugly refin but with a trade of a '86 Les Paul I actually walked out with $750 in my pocket and a free Tshirt and a copy of his book. I think he was a pretty straight shooter and call Mark a friend to this day. Still the best sounding acoustic I have ever played. Ahh, the beauty of old wood! They don't/CAN'T make 'em like that anymore whatever the price. Old hog and spruce that doesn't exist any longer stands the test of time. Fine caretakers of these instruments are far and few between . God bless Norm and George Gruen for keeping the dream alive.
16. nothing sounds like an ol dry Gibson
17. Saw this at the Bozeman Airport last week on a trip to big sky country.
18. Come on ... It looks like my Browning shotgun.
19. we call that a sweetheart steak where I come from. Happy Valentines Day!
20. Love the checking on my '64 Hummingbird Would never change a thing. I was weathering (relic) a refin stratocaster and I used a heat gun and one of those keyboard cleaning spray cans upside down and got the same time honored effect. May have got a little carried away though... (photo is not reversed it's my take on a Hendrix tribute)
21. And for $650 a month Volvo has a lease plan where you can get a new one every 4 months! Of course that won't help me as the last new thing I got was a light bulb (they were out of used ones)
22. Nice as always BK ....deleting political content before...
