  1. I think the serial number was unreadable once it got to Final Assembly, so they re-stamped it. I think that's why it looks like that. The made in Usa stamp is so faint. The serial number and made in USA are done on two different machines.
  2. I worked there then, it was several hundred, far fewer than the LP, SG, Explorer & V models in the gothic series.
  3. All of them get that blue insert, at least they did until I left in 2017. (21 years). It's just part of the process.
  4. The "weird blue thing" is a drywall anchor: they all get one in the "butt" because the guitars hang from an eye hook inserted there while in the finishing dept. Keeps the wood from tearing out.
  5. The lacquer has probably sunk between the top halves.
  6. It didn't come from the factory like that, I worked there then.
  7. I used to work for Gibson at the Nashville plant for a long time. After the 2010 flood while we were cleaning/rebuilding the plant, we found one of these stashed up in the ceiling tiles above the maintenance shop! Crazy....
  8. The picture is from the Gibson Factory. It's at one of the Final Assembly QC stations. After it's checked and passed QC, they take a digital photo using the serial number as a file name for future reference. They print it out right there on a small dye sub printer. It's supposed to be like a "baby photo", just a perk for the new owner.
  9. Have you tried Gibson customer service?
  10. It wasn't a prototype, Les had signed a bunch of blank head veneers, and a small run (maybe 25-50) of BFG's were some of the guitars Henry decided to put them on. The serial number was also a Henry thing, I can't remember exactly what his idea was...
  11. I was working for Gibson when we made those. I can't remember why the serial number is like that, but that's Les' signature. He signed a bunch of head veneers for Gibson a couple years before he passed. It looks all legitimate to me. I don't remember any kind of certificate, there very well may not have been. The seller may be referring to the QC card.
  12. It's real It's a BFG model Les Paul, and that is Les' real signature
  13. Les Paul Classic (LPCS) Bouillon Gold (BG) Nickel Hardware (NH1)
