    Mr. Natural,

And George Fenniman, who became Groucho Marx's announcer on "You bet your life", an early television game show, had an uncredited role in the film as well.

That's funny.  I'll have to watch for George the next time I watch The Thing.

(It was a hundred, wasn't it?)

Both are great, the John Ford westerners are hard to beat , Shane gets my vote as the better of the two, but The Searchers has grown on my over the years, hard to pick just one,  The Unforgiven would be on the list of top 5.

ALL great westerns.  "Unforgiven" is my favorite of the later westerns.

I have no idea what that means but I have every intention of using it the next time someone asks me how I'm doing.

I'm at an age that when someone asks me how I'm doing, I tell them, "Well, I'm not buying any green bananas."

I'm with you Mr. N. I bet I've watched this flick 20 or more times,  Peter Sellers was a genius!

I've got it on DVD, and I watch it at least once a year and whenever it comes on TCM.  Watch that clip that jaxson50 posted and watch the Soviet ambassador.

What a classic western,  Clint Eastman once told an interviewer that every western he did was in some measure a remake of Shane,

    That's high praise.

I saw a list not long ago of someone's opinion of the greatest westerns ever made.  I think "Shane" was number 2 on the list behind John Wayne's "Stagecoach".

    Karloff,

I suppose a case could be made that some science-fiction films such as "The Thing" (the original, which I've always considered to be an excellent movie) could also be considered to be "horror" films, but the slashing/hacking/goalie mask/zombie schtick is of no interest to me.

We all know who the Thing was in the original movie, don't we?

James Arness, aka Marshall Matt Dillon.

I didn't know there had been a remake/new version.  It's one of those where the original just can't be done again.

OTOH the Donald Sutherland "Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers"  is a remake and very good.....

I have not seen the "Wicker Man" remake with Cage.  I have not read any favorable reviews, but the original film is great.

And, yes, both "...Bodysnatchers" movies are good.  I saw the original when I was a kid on the Friday night TV creature feature.  I checked under my bed every night for a week or so after that.

Dr. Strangelove,  released in 1964, a great cast, Kuberik at his best and Peter Sellers as well at the top of his game, playing 3 lead characters, it was James EarlJones first big movie part although he got little screen time, Slim Pickins,  great movie

This is one of my very favorite movies, and this is my favorite  scene.  For of any that have never seen this movie, it a must-see.  AND, at least watch this clip, but keep your eye NOT on Peter Sellers as Strangelove, but rather on the Soviet ambassador just to Sellers' right.  He starts to crack up about 2/3ds of the way through this clip when Strangelove is fighting with his right arm.  Apparently it was decided to go ahead and use this take, because nobody would be watching anyone in the background; everyone would be watching Sellers.  I had seen this movie probably a half dozen times before someone told me to watch the Soviet guy.

Well since the Forums are back up, I'll bring this thread back again. [cool]

Played another gig with our "band". I put that in quotes because this isn't an official band. It's Steve and I and a rotating cast of dudes we bring in to play when needed. The guy we had booked on bass (Ed) realized again at the last minute he double booked himself, and he got this dude Art to fill in for the second time. So it was Steve (acoustic/vocals), Louis (drums), Art (bass) and me (electric guitar/vocals). But then at the last minute Ed's brother Elvin  (guitar)showed up and we squeezed him in  too.

Musically it was a great night. We had a blast, played great and the crowd loved us.  But the bar kinda stiffed us on the pay. We already expected to get less per person when we added Elvin into the equation, but then the bar gave us a check for even less than we expected. I think this is the last time we play there even though we have more gigs on the books.

Well, I'm glad y'all had a good time, and I'm glad the crowd had a good time, but too bad the bar didn't treat you fairly.

  10. For me, academically speaking, besides my apparently reaching my baseball peak in high school, college baseball was taking up too much of my time, and my grades started to suffer.

I made the first cut on the baseball team, but I was going to be riding the pine behind a better first baseman.  I decided to concentrate on my studies.

Even if I had stayed with baseball in college, I certainly wasn't going to go beyond that.  For one thing, I was too slow a runner.  My high school coach once told me, "Natural [not my real name], you run too long in the same place."
