Wow that Japanese CEO kicks it... Very solid player :-) Henry, good for you man, maybe your not Jimmy Page but you went for it so good job!!!

Now this is big news, Gibson is now the major share holder in Teac. I still have my Teac 1/2 inch 8 track machine, needs new reel motors though. Henry can you get me a deal... ;-) I allways loved Teac products and always associated them with quality and innovation... WIll be interesting to see how this develops. Best of luck to both companies and may we all benefit... [thumbup]

LOL Henry it takes Henry forever to get settled, you'd think the rig is ready to go, turn the volume up and go but I guess they did not use roadies.

Still good jam considering it was a business meeting.

Lol.. youd think :)

Cos im not a valve amp user the Standby switch has gotten me a few times in the shops..

Me "Dude this guitar doesnt seem to be working, the amp is on and the volume is up but no sound"

Guitar shop dude just comes and flicks the standby switch and looks at me like im an idiot .. DOH!!!!

But then I dont own a major guitar company :P

Teac=Tascam.

I don't know all that much about them, but the only difference should be Teac is marketed for the "high end" audio market, and Tascam for the "pro-sound" market.

Needless to say, and actually, NEED to say, that recorder should STILL be better than a lot of digital stuff. Hope you can get it tuned up. You sure it needs new motors?

The real hope here, the question, is does Teac/Tascam still support analog tape. WILL they?

The scary thing, is Gibson is buying up and investing in a LOT of brands, basically turning into a corp rather than a guitar maker.

Good news, Gibson is privately owned. Bad news, heard Henry say his ultimate goal is to go public. I don't see good things from that.

Yeah it's definitely the motors, they wont rewind or fast forward anymore... Play works fine as the capstand helps pull the tape along but when I hit rewind or FF the poor motors can bearly turn....

I think his problem was that Firebird X, damn, he keeps pushing that guitar, he had to look at it to see all the "settings".

Damn, give the guy a break, maybe he was nervous or something... I think we all know he is more a business man than a guitar player but he still holds the same passion we all do for guitars. Everyone has different skill levels, that doesn't matter what matters is he's doing stuff to keep the company going and I think he deserves some recognition for that... Good on Henry... =D>

The Japanese guy knows he has to keep it going so he's the guy I want in my band, not a bloke who can't turn his own amp on [blush][laugh]....but HJ has good L hand position!

I too still have a Tascam 38, DX4Ds and a cupboard full of tapes. Still such a beautiful sound but it must be about the most expensive storage medium there is now.

Digital does have far more high end but (I suppose) it doesn't 'sweeten' certain frequencies in the way tape does.

As for his business strategy, buying up/investing in other brands is inevitably 'how it goes', that's what he does....now is a time to expand rather than consolidate, because surely from his point of view he has brought both Gibson and Epiphone back to the top of the tree and as a business and a marque both are doing very well compared to their competitors.

It sounds like a lot of shares and a lot of investment money though; and given his track record of pushing for new technologies it will be very interesting to see where this goes.

I might not put my 38 up on ebay just yet!

By the way, I agree with that. Indeed, now Henry is too fond of the digital direction in guitars, at least, talking about this the last developments of Gibson, digital guitars, hexaphonic pickups for them etc. Moreover, conventional guitar pickups were recognized imperfect from the point of view of modern technologies for record and transfer. Probably, it is also the reason for such alliance with Teak to improve heaped up Firebird X and to do it more successful in market.

Always practice. Practice playing. Practice turning on standby switches, practice with the Firebird knobs, practice not being nervous. Like I said before, he needs a couple weeks in some training on how to be cool instead of always looking like a doofus. It's important. You can't own a guitar company and be a doofus. [scared]

No..., this is sooner another problem, a guitar must not be too overloaded in gadgets, settings etc. (IMO). In this regard, a classical LP guitar with only the 4 pots remains one of the best handy for a guitar player, in it all is very familiar and logical and simple for playing and controlling. And you can congratulate me :) , fellows, my work is not in vain [biggrin] . It seems, I managed to make a good sound in my LP guitar when the sound is blended from two humbucker pickups (anybody, perhaps, is remembered my thread about blended sound in LP guitar), now the sound brightness of my guitar does not disappear in blending from two humbuckers. And the blended sound is quite actual as a new guitar sound with its own enriched tone that appears at once at the time of switching to the blended sound without any additional adjustment of guitar potentiometers.

I rehearse a thing now of Yes from Yessongs album where Steve How plays as single guitar player, a difficult thing, this guitar thing sounds good on my LP guitar now in the blended sound from the two humbuckers and the sound as from an acoustic guitar [thumbup] , though my LP is an electric guitar, when I record it I will show here.

By the way,Badbluesplayer, I accidentally clicked +1 when I wanted to respond to your reply, and the meaning of my answer is the opposite [confused] , but let it be +1 for you now :) .

You can minus me later!!

I must have been in a bad mood. Plus, I didn't practice yesterday either, so who am I to be ragging on him? Plus, he's the one with the guitar company. And that's way cooler than just being some smart aleck customer.

[unsure]

Oh yeah, I did practice, um, but it was........ um...... Moondance. [blink]

It takes some big balls just to admit that....

lol.

But I suppose in all fairness my little practice amp I just got is probably the first amp I have ever owned without a standby.

So I find myself looking for a switch that isn't there.. lol.
