Check out my new (to me!) LG-3 ! It's been played a lot over the last 60+ years, and it shows through honest play wear. But she is the best sounding acoustic I've got at the moment [biggrin]

PS I know the tuners are not original! Neither is the saddle or nut, but both are bone!

Looks good to me. Congratulations!

Thanks. The SN/FON have long since faded away to the point they are not there anymore. Dating it may be impossible, but it seems to have the features of the late 1940's to very early 1950's models. If anyone has any other ideas to help me pin down a more accurate date, please chime in!

With that logo and that pickguard, it should be 1948-1954 or so. I say "or so" because I'm not sure if the LG-series pickguard/fretboard exactly followed the J-45 timeline or not.

The frets look like the big frets Gibson went to in 1959 or is it just the picture. I think it is no older than a 1954 because in 1955 they went to the big bat wing pick guards. My 1960 has the big frets and big pick guard. Nice guitar.

I think you mean "no newer than 1954". I've seen the fatter frets on a surprising number of older Gibsons.

Thanks everyone! So it could be anywhere between a 1948 to 1954 model huh? I guess a 7 year spread isn't too bad. I had never heard of this model until just before acquiring it. After some online research, it appears my fellow guitar pickers love these old, small-body, X-braced beauties! I like how light the guitar feels, and the width/string spacing of a Gibson neck has always suited my hand better. I was concerned the truss rod nut would have been long seized, but before adjustment, I dabbed on some WD-40 with a q-tip and let it sit. The truss rod then adjusted smoothly and it still adds and removes relief, which was to MY relief LOL. Just curious......All my other Gibsons have a brass colored truss rod nut, but they are nowhere near this old. This old LG-3 had what looks like a steel or stainless steel nut? Any ideas? Educate me please. :)
