Gibson Les Paul year and pickups

Recommended Posts

Can you tell the year and exact model of this guitar ? The serial number is 915865. I bought this guitar from an individual in Finland in 1984. At least one of the pickups has been changed as well as the tuning mechanism in the headstock. I started wondering this issue since I would like to restore it with original pickups. Can you tell what the original pickups are and where to get them.

Look at the black one by the neck. Does it have a T on the bobbin like this?

If so, that might be original to the guitar and would give you a clue as what you need to get to restore the guitar.

Also, check out this link about dating pickups:

Your guitar seems to be from the late 60's or early 70's. BTW, they would have had metal covers that matched the other hardware on the guitar, probably chrome or nickel.
