Rabs Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Common.. I know they are the Rolling Stones.. but that's crazy prices.. GA Tier 3 – access to the main spectator area GA Tier 2 – access to an area closer to the stage than general admission GA Tier 1 – access to the area directly in front of the stage Hyde Park London, UK All Ages £95.00 - £299.00 (that's between $150 to $452 ish per ticket) :o I will catch the DVD thanks (when it comes on Youtube :P )
charlie brown Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 This is exactly why I don't go to concerts, by the "biggies" anymore. Insane ticket prices! Besides, with a decent sound system, and widescreen TV, you end up with a better view, and sound, watching it on DVD (when available), at home. And, you don't have to pay for parking, wrestle with rude people, etc., etc., etc. I've seen the Stones, and all the other "Classic Rock" acts, including The Beatles, that I've ever wanted to, in their Heyday, as well. Some, several times. So...??? Now, I would have liked to have seen EC with "The Wallflowers" as his opening act, this time. But, too far away! So...I'll have to wait for that DVD (if it materializes), as well. CB
Rabs Posted April 4, 2013 Author Posted April 4, 2013 Yeah its just too far.. The crazy thing is you know it will sell out within an hour... Its like the collectors guitars, they do it cos they can I guess.. I aint paying that though The mad thing is that over here.. Even if you want to pay that money.. Trying to get good seats at gigs these days is almost impossible.. All the best seats seem to go instantly only to be found on last minute type sites where they can double and even triple in price (even more if its a big one). I know music is a business.. but this just goes too far.
Dennis G Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Well, I'll admit to paying close to $400 ea for 2 tix to the Eagles a couple of years ago, but the seats were absolute killer. On the center aisle, about 150 feet from the stage, ground level, Honda Center. That said, once again have primo tix to ZZ Top at the Pacific Amphitheater on 8/1 for just under $60 each, which includes admission the the OC Fair (woohoo) LOL
MissouriPicker Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Yeah, way-too-much money for a concert. I wouldn't pay those prices to see anyone, no matter who it might be. Not even The Stones, Beatles, Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, God, etc. There comes a point where commonsense needs to rule. Concerts have gone the way of professional sports. It used to be that a major league baseball game was a family event. Now, only people who make one-hell-of-a-lot of money can afford to take the family. NFL games are even crazier. Now the players/entertainers are multi-millionaires and the average person who works all week to support a family is expected to pay outrageous prices to support the millionaires. Something went wrong somewhere.
grampa Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I will probably do it. The last time I saw the Stones was with about 350,000 close friends just outside of a racetrack in Altamount CA. It was free so I guess I can pay this time.
MrNylon Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I was viewing many of the major concerts from back stage. Not going to start paying for them now.
Twang Gang Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Have to agree with Rabs on this one too pricey. And don't worry guys you can be sure there will be a DVD because after they take in all the ticket money they will have to earn some more through DVD sales (not that the Stones themselves get much of either pieces of the pie). I saw the Stones in about '62 or '63 in a small club in Brussels for the price of a two drink minimum - they were doing blues covers ie Little Red Rooster, Off The Hook, Carol, I Just Wanna Make Love To You, If You Need Me, Around and Around. That was fun probably sitting 20 feet from them on a little stage. They were about 19 to 21 years old and you could tell sort of nervous, not polished yet.
duluthdan Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 And, you don't have to pay for parking, wrestle with rude people, etc., etc., etc. ...for a second there I thought this said "wrestle with nude people" and I was going to hop on over to ticketmaster ... oh well.
stein Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, I kinda feel that if you want to make a lot of money, why not go and do a lot of tour? Why not be happy with the standard that most "big" bands have? On the other hand, those ticket prices WILL go up, because there will be scalpers and the richest, most well off who want to go. The shows are gonna sell out, and most poeple who will end up in the seats are going to pay more than even these prices. So why give it to the scalpers? Personally, I can't go. I can't afford near those prices, so I won't get to see them. Maybe never again. It kinda bums me out. I feel bummed for those others that can't as well. But I also think I am glad to know they are still doing it. I can't really expect them to keep on it, or do a REAL tour of like hundreds of shows. They have paid their dues, and earned the popularity they have to be able to get those prices. There's plenty of "new" bands to see, and even those that aren't famous playing in bars and clubs. But then, it doesn't matter anyway sinse you can't smoke anymore.
retrosurfer1959 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Yep it's getting hard to believe especially as tight as most people are for cash in the world as it stands. I was recently given two tickets to Madonna and the wife wanted to go so my sister and my wife went since I'm not much of a madonna fan. the tickets were some kind of package and they had reserved seating in the first 5 rows or something as well as a meet and greet a autographed CD etc. Let's just say I was stunned at the price printed o those tickets. It's not all bad though last year I saw Government Mule in a smaller venue they played for three hours and were amazing and I was in the front row right in front of Warren in fact he came over at the end and he handed about eight of their custom printed guitar Pics and the song list with the whole bands autographs on it. and that ticket cost me $40 and I got two drinks with that.
kidblast Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Ticket prices are crazy these days for sure. not being much of stones fan personally, I don't really care, but, they'll sell out, I mean besides a few trolls like me, who doesn't love the Stones?
rct Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Ticket prices are crazy these days for sure. not being much of stones fan personally, I don't really care, but, they'll sell out, I mean besides a few trolls like me, who doesn't love the Stones? I'm with you, I wouldn't go if it was free. Over exposed, far too much of them guys at many times that they had nothing to offer. It is true, we each have about three records in us, and they've gotten away with doing them over and over and over. I give them all props as a band and all the things they been through, but if I didn't ever hear them again I'd be just fine with it. rct
Notes_Norton Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 As long as there are enough people to fill the seats, they will charge whatever the market will bear. Is it worth it? Not to me. I've been in the warm-up band for many major acts, and I see and am treated by these people as peers. I'm certainly not going to pay that much to see them. I've jammed with Eric Burdon after hours, talked peer to peer with Tom Scott, had Ira Sullivan and Red Rodney sit in with our jazz group, been backstage with the Motown Stars after our warm up, discussed finances with members of The Association while Cherish was the number one song in the country (they made much more per show than we did as the warm up group), had Rick Derringer come out to see our band and smoke and joke with him afterward, and so on. These people are not demigods, they are just other musicians who happened to land a better gig, in other words, equals. Plus, while I do like some of their earlier work of the Stones, I think they peaked with the Sticky Fingers album and went downhill from there. The caliber of songwriting went down, and their talent has never been that special - decent yes - great no. I just saw the Russian National Orchestra for $25.00 US. About 120 musicians all of which are at least as talented as the Stones and most of which are much more accomplished than any musician in the Stones. I think the most you could have paid for box seats was about $100. So why do 5 guys command ticket prices that high? Because people will pay that much to see them. Celebrity worship. I won't, and I don't worship them, but then, I'm not the market the Stones are looking for. If I could get that much per ticket, I'd do the same thing. Notes
marvar Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I'm not defending the high ticket prices, but- Artists make little or no money on record sales- most music is just about given away. Artists have to tour to make money, the days of sitting home waiting for the royalties to roll in are over. It used to be the other way around- you toured to support album sales, where the big money was, most tours back in the day thought they did well if they broke even, 'cause they knew they'd make it up in record sales. The majors can and will charge as much as they want, or, what they think the market will handle, because they know they have a fan base that will pay it, but once again- putting on a major concert costs major bucks. Props, stages, stage hands, logistics, equipment, lighting, trucking, insurance, et al: costs a bunch of money.
AXE® Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 If I want to see old people wobbling about whilst trying to make sense of things, I'll go volunteer at the assisted living senior center.
matonanjin Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 My wife and I went to Las Vegas earlier this year to celebrate our anniversary. I found out that completely coincidentally my favorite musician of all time, Carlos Santana, was at the House of Blues at the same time. So I, of course, told my wife that was one of the things we were going to do. Until I found out ticket prices! The only thing left was standing room only for $140 each! I wasn't about to stand the whole concert. Or we could do VIP for $750 each! We did the Grand Canyon tour instead <_<
jaxson50 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 WOW! That's almost as expensive as a NFL game..... That's why I don't go to them either, crazy prices.
LT ED Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Micheal Schenker £20 Falmouth pavilions Cornwall uk 16th april will be a gazillion times better than the stones and he always does a meet and greet. [thumbup] now thats value for money.
L5Larry Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 About 10 years ago I was talking with Rusty Young (Buffalo Springfield, Poco) after a Poco concert. I asked him if he had seen Timothy B. Schmidt lately (Eagles bass player, formerly with Poco). His response was "No, I can't afford the ticket."
quapman Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Micheal Schenker £20 Falmouth pavilions Cornwall uk 16th april will be a gazillion times better than the stones and he always does a meet and greet. [thumbup] now thats value for money. Exactly,, there are still plenty of affordable shows rolling through town. I have no desire to fatten over rated millionaires wallets.
sellen Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Wow that's pretty much!!!! They might have a gigantic crew and show that gonna coast big time. I think i read AC-DC had a crew over 100 people on the Black ice tour, that ain't cheap. So if this is even bigger, well that,s expensive.
manse Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Greedy old sods!! They played there for free in 1969. Now that they are millions and millions of pounds richer they feel the need to fleece the fans who have stuck with them. Shameful. Pathetic. Makes me want to vomit. (In my opinion).
Dennis G Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 An article in today's Orange County Register said the Stones are coming to the Honda Center (Anaheim, CA) probably May. The Mgr of the Honda Center works out at my gym. The "cheap" seats are said to be in the $400-$500 range. Not that big of a Stones fan myself.
