RusRob
Is it possible to get a new replacement Label for a guitar from Gibson? I just bought a J-40 that is in need of repair and it is missing the Gibson Label inside the guitar. It has the serial number intact on the headstock. Before even trying to deal with Gibson directly I would like to know if it is even possible. I know that Fender will re-print labels for you if you can verify the serial number. j45nick
Not all Gibson acoustics have/had labels, you know. Historically, labels were uncommon except for higher-end acoustics.
ponty
Bob, if that J-40 had a label, it would have been a rectangular, much like this one. I dont think Gibson would entertain doing a replica, but you may try Gruhn, and they may be able to advise.
RusRob
Thank you guys, I know the J-40 isn't a high end guitar so it may not have had one. I picked this one up pretty cheap and its in pretty sad shape. I have a soft spot for guitars that have been mistreated and abused. I take special care to make sure the ones I work on are brought back to their former glory. It would be nice to be able to put a nice new label in it to proclaim its new life. I have done a couple of Fenders and they are pretty good about it as long as you can prove the guitar is legitimate. I will contact Gruhn and see if they can help. Thanks again for the help, Bob
