rednefceleb Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I am proud to own an Epiphone Les Paul. Epi's have come up. Way up! She plays very well and sounds great. I believe it to be equal to Many Gibsons that I own. Better than a few. Peace.
Old Rocker 59 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Glad to hear that . I myself made the jump to Epiphone a few weeks ago with the purchase of a Goth Les Paul Studio model. I'd been playing mostly Fender Strats for the last 40 years , so since I got my Epi, my Strats have been collecting dust and I have been considering selling them so I can get some more Epis.
rednefceleb Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 Research The Epiphone factory in Qingdao, China. Lots of good information.
swamprock Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 My Tribute Plus was shipped today. Can't wait to get it!

Now there's a smart man! I had a Strat years ago, and once I played an Epi LP, there was no going back. You have to work at getting good tones from Strats, but it comes so easily from an LP.
rednefceleb Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 I am glad to see a few answers to my comment about my Les Paul Tribute Plus. This is one thing that made a GIANT upgrade for me. I usually play DeAddario or Ernie Ball's. Last night I installed the De Adarrios 10 thru 46. It really DOES make a huge difference in sound and playability.I play it thru a rebuilt Custom Vibrolux Reverb. I have Visual Sounds Jekyll & Hyde and the Visual Sounds H2O dual pedals. This axe plays as well as my 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom Tabacoo Sunburst. Epiphone has finally come up. WAY up!

I bought the Tribute Plus just after Christmas and also haven't touch my strat since. I put some Ernie Ball Cobalt strings on it and it really lit it up in any amp I've used it on....both tubes and trannies. Its been my favorite since it arrived.

BobF_ Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Congrats on the Tribute. I sold an Am Dlx Strat to buy an Ultra 339 after being so happy with an Epi LP Std+ PRO :-) These compare quite favorably to my '57 B7 in build, tone and playability ... Enjoy!
rednefceleb Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 What convinced me to buy Epiphone was their news about an Epi factory in Qingdao, China. (sounds like 'king-dow'). This is the factory that {Epi Stanxxxxxx} was allowed to experiment with ideas along side of Gibson luthiers. I have all ready asked Epiphone for a position in Qingdao, China, I have many ideas for developing finer Epi guitars with more and more of the Gibson parts/influences/ even color management as well as electrical ideas that could put Epiphone over the TOP! Try to remember that Epiphone worked in this very historical factory, where Les Paul himself, designed and put together the first solidbody electric guitar. "The Log". Rednefceleb.
Gunner Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Qingdao, China. (sounds like 'king-dow') Actually, closer to "ching dow", unless you still refer to Beijing as "Peking".

Macmutt Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 My Tribute Plus was shipped today. Can't wait to get it! I just had the exact one trans black finish and all and the guitar was flawless, in appearance, playability and sound. However it was also 100% solid wood,no chambering or weight relief, and 20 years ago that would've been perfect but now-a-days i'm 44 years old, with a wife and 2 kids, and i only get like 1 day a week to play, and it's just not enough for me to be able to adjust to the weight, i literally had to take aspirin or ibuprofen if i played for 2 hours or more. Nobody was more broken hearted than me but i had to return it, and since it was within the 30 day window i was able to get full credit for it and i ordered a new Black Epiphone ES-339 Pro semi hollow body...which will be just fine, i love semi-hollow bodies and i always prefer a double cutaway over a single. My new Epi actually arrives tomorrow, i can't wait to pick it up....best of luck with yours though, they look and sound great.

Geez, I'm 14 years older than you, and love 10 lb Les Pauls, the heavier the better. I play them all night at gigs. I never even notice the weight at any point during or after.

I've had her for a couple of weeks now and she just siiiings. I usually mod my Epis, but I don't think this one will get any mods; at least for quite a while. She doesn't need any... The weight doesn't bother me at all, and I'm 42. I do, however, switch guitars between my TP and my Junior depending on the song. A few of our songs just sound better with the Mean-90 pick attack...

I never even notice the weight at any point during or after. Exactly what i said, you get to play it all night at gigs, probably multiple times a week too, so you were able to get used to the weight in no time. I on the other hand am lucky if i get to play once a week or once every other week, because i have to wait for the wife and kids to goto my in-laws to do laundry, so i can set up everything in my living room and play. Since they are only gone a few hours, i only get two hours of play time...max, then i have to pack up my equipment and put it away until the following week. So i don't really have that break in period i need to get used to the weight on my back. 20 years ago, i played nearly everyday, and even if a guitar felt a bit heavy i got used to it in a weeks time because i played all day everyday just about, so it wasn't a problem.

They were good before, but now you don't need to change any parts. You get a gig-worthy guitar right out of the box. These are good times my friend. My 1959 LP Std (Burstbuckers), LP Std Pro (Probuckers), and LP Royale (Alnico Classic Pros) all still have the stock PU' in them, and they sound great.

LP121 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Hey guys, first post and wanted to say I just got my Tribute + last week and couldn't be happier. It's one awesome guitar. I did a lot of research before I bought it and this model had all the features I was looking for. Frankly, I've been too busy playing it to change the strings yet. :)
DG248 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Just picked up an Epi Les Paul Tribute Plus yesterday. Can't put it down. Picked it up at Guitar Center (Southfield, Michigan) and the guys there went above and beyond with a really nice set up for me. It sounds, feels, looks beautiful. It's only been a couple days, but I think it's great. I also have a Fender American Tele Standard (Which I also love). There's a big difference between the two. The first noticeable difference is the weight. The LP is a lot heavier feeling. The next difference is in the tones you can get from the LP. Deeper, more growl when you're looking for it. But, with the push/pull on the LP, you can get very Tele-ish tones, and also early 'Fab Four' sounding tones. It really can run the spectrum. It's very versatile and a joy to play. It is the heaviest guitar I've ever had on my shoulder (my first LP experience) but that is a very minor consideration to me. In a nutshell - LOVE IT!

My new Epi actually arrives tomorrow, i can't wait to pick it up....best of luck with yours though, they look and sound great. I'm 44 as well and confined to a wheelchair. I have a spinal disorder called Ankylosing Spondylitis and both hips and my spine are completely fused and won't move. I found (after much painful experimentation) that an amazing way to play is in a recliner. It takes some getting used to at first, but my back doesn't bother me at all after even a few hours of play. The only cheat so far is that I talc my fret hand for better motion up and down the neck since I'm supporting that part of the guitar with my palm. I have my amp on the right side facing me so I can fiddle with the controls and a TV tray with drink, snacks, smokes, and cell phone on the other side of me. If Mother Nature leaves me alone I can sit and play for hours without issue. It's harder to pretend I'm standing in with the band because the regular guitarist had his hand slammed in a bus door, but it's not too much of a stretch that they'd love me so much that they set me up a golden reclining throne on stage at that point. I hope if you try it that it works as well for you as it does for me. P.S. - A hypo-allergenic baby wipe down the back of the neck after playing gets her shiny as new and I've seen zero adverse effects from it so far.
