Re-aquainted, and I love it!

I always used my SongBird Deluxe as my "go to" guitar. The rosewood body just has that VOLUME!. My SJ true vintage was always left at home and only played sparingly. Lately, I've found myself grabbing the SJ all the time. That warm mahogany richness is like a drug! I don't know if the guitar has finally just "aged in" or what, but that tone of the mahogany and spruce top is undescribable! The lows, mids are so rich. The highs are brilliant without being too "tinny". Anyone else fell in love a second time with an ol' favorite? Sorry I haven't posted in a while, been kinda busy. I'm still playing at least once a week, so that's good!

2nd..3rd AND 4th time. Especially pre-65 Xbraced Goya-Levins. Closest thing to the sound of an LG2/3 I've ever played, however they sell in the $4-600 range. They don't have the sustain of what was built in Kalamazoo, and can't 'ring' like old Martins can, but I keep revisiting and G.A.S.ing for them. ???

My favorite guitars pretty much have nothing to do with an objective evaluation of sound. I am just so comfortable with some that it is like hanging around with an old friend.

It happens to me a lot! Owning several guitars means(for me) that some do not get played for extended periods. It is usually when I entertain selling one that has not been getting played, that I pull it out and get re-acquainted and fall back in love. It happened most recently with my Hog J-100. I had,in the past, convinced myself that I was not enamored with the 25-1/2" scale and the resulting 'stiffer feel' of the guitar....Nah...its a keeper [thumbup] and a freakin' Tone-Beast.

Guitars are interesting. A favorite gets replaced by a (at the time) prettier face and is kind of forgotten for a while. Yet, it's hard to keep a songbird silent. A guitar that you bond with is pretty difficult to forgot. Glad you got reacquainted with an old friend, Larry. Keep playing all of them. It's all good. [thumbup]

Ys I was a rosewood fan for YEARS! Still am actually...BUT in the past year I have discovered the exquisite richness of Mahogany. At one time I always thought it was too quiet as I was used to my loud rosewoods..but now Hog has become my decided favorite wood. Its sound seems more clean and pure to my ear, and it definitely seems best to me for singing with as its volume never upstages my voice as rosewood always seems to want to! I am a true Hog lover now! Its subtle sweetness and rich woody sound really are addicting.
