Big Norm Posted April 9, 2013 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Just bought my ES-339 pro in vintage sunburst last week, but it's not what I was looking for. My main guitar is my Casino and I don't know when I'm gonna use this nice ES-339. The guitar is perfect, nothing wrong with it. It's even nicer than my Casino, but it's not the sound I was looking for. I don't want to put it on Ebay,it will cost me 10% in fees and anyway, one of you might have interest in a trade and we would only have to pay each other the shipping both ways. I would consider a trade for a Les Paul or a wildkat ( for P-90's pickups ) As long your Les Paul is not blue or silver, that could be fine. Even if it's older or have some scratches or little dents, i won't bother. No headstock repair of course. Believe me, the ES-339 is a fantastic guitar and plays very well. The frets are perfect, intonation is good, the action alright, nothing wrong (it's brand new ). I will ship it in is original box I received it a week ago. Anyway, if somebody would like to do the trade, let me know. I will send you more pictures if you wish. I would also like a MIM Telecaster by the way. Sounds strange that the guitar is perfect but just doesn't "sound right". A week is not really a long time to figure out all the sounds available to the 339 - with the coil taps and interactive volume/tone controls there are tons of sounds in there, many of which are very subtle variations on one another. Hi Dporto, It's hard to explain, but the Casino sounds exactly like I want... The ES-339 sounds week compare to the Casino. It must be the difference between P-90 and Humbuckers... and it's worst if you pull the knobs to bring it as a Single coil. It's probably a personal perception, but I'm sure the ES-339 won't play in my hands, so even if I'm not sure how will sound a LesPaul, at least I will try something else and it might be it... Hi Cougar, Thanks to figure out a deal...loll, but I don't feel like I'm stuck with it. It's just that I don't feel right with this guitar. It's fantastic looking at her, and also a pleasure to handle it and play it, but sound wise it's not my cup of tea... For anybody else, it could be THE ONE. I'll do that during the week end and see. Changing the pickups for P-90's is also a good idea i might experience, since I love the feel of the 339. I'll let you knoe... I put a pair of rail hammers in a epi lp and they are awesome. I would acually recommend them for the 339. they would be a drop in the 339 since it is setup for coil tapping. I raised the pickups a bit, putted new strings, adjusted the intonation, the nut was to tight for 2 strings so I fixed it with a bit of sanding, putted graphite lube on the nut and it's now completely different. tonematter Posted April 17, 2013 Share Posted April 17, 2013 Within the last year I've had the 339 Pro, A '12 Casino, Goldtop Riviera P93, and Black Royale Wildkat. Sold them all! Nice guitars, but only the Casino did I have second thoughts about selling. The availability of the Casino makes it easy to sell and then pick up another one again, tho. The P93 was too heavy and the third pickup was kind of superfluous. Body size was too big without the hollow trade off of a Casino. The 339 Pro was fine, but felt a little undersized and I'm not into binding too much. I only used the humbucker mode. The Wildkat had blinding binding on the neck, and I like either a solid body with P90s or completely hollow with P90s. Plus, it didn't stay in tune, but that could be my fault. I had one of the original translucent Black Wildkats back in the early 2000s, but sold it as well. Kind of had a midrange tone - didn't get a jazz tone. Right now I have the Sorrento reissue on order for May, so we'll see if that one's a keeper or not. Had the 90s P90 Sorrento about five years back, but the nut width was way too narrow.
