I was just thinking about swapping the pick-ups from my white sg to my les paul. the white sg has the burst bucker 1 and 3 and the les paul has the 490 and pro bucker. both have split coils so it shouldnt be hard. OK so here is the what i am wondering? would the les paul sound as good as the sg if i changed them? is the wood part of the sound?

The 490 for certain and, I think, the pro bucker are brighter pups so I'd say would be better kept in the LP.

Makes sense. And yet I have a SG with a 490/498 combo and it sounds great. You pretty much gotta try it and see. You can always swap back.

I thought iwould get some input before the swap. hey does any body know what pick ups slash and lifeson are using to get the acoustic sound?

Slash uses Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pros, which do sound awesome in a Les Paul. It's not a super hot pickup so it plays clean at lower gain.

I believe Lifeson uses stock pickups in his ES, and if it is a new song, the signature LP has a piezo pickup in the Floyd saddles.

i know what you mean. its the same here. i guess i can always change it back but then i have a couple guitars that were tampered with. or maybe i should just save and buy the burst buckers 1 and 3 for the les paul. but if the sound isnt what i expected then i just spent a bunch of cash. lol we need a web site where we can change pick ups and caps on virtual guitars for an actual sound test. wouldnt that be sweet. you know someone could make a million or two from that one.

...Wood part of the sound?

Hello!

Of course. The density of wood will define the tone. The harder wood picks up the sound quicker and the sound "travels through the wood" faster - this in effect makes the instrument sound bright. Softer wood offers the opposite effect. Also depending on wood type, some harmonics will be enhanced or diminished.

I believe the maple top s the only difference between the two. the thickness is another story all together. lol i am getting way into over thinking this .

Hey greg that is exactly what i want. thanks, do you know which of the two that would sound the most acoustic?

I would go with the LR Baggs. Be prepared to gut your guitar as you typically change the output to stereo as well as add pre-amps and controls. It might be easier just to get an Epi Les Paul Ultra II/III where you have the pickup already installed. Replace the humbuckers and you got a decent guitar.
