Byron Bay Guitar Shop

When I wanted to order some Virtuoso Cleaner and Polish, the only place I could find it was from a little ole geetar shop in Byron Bay, NSW, Aust.

Those in the know had a giggle because the area is the last refuge of the the old surfer/hippy/guitar player in their VW Kombi Vans and the chances of my delivery actually arriving were counted as slim at best. So to prove all the NaySays wrong, my package arrived in record time, almost as I logged out of the computer from ordering it. Unfortunately, the shop ruined the whole image by notifying me by email that the package would soon be dispatched to me, while I was sitting here cleaning my guitar with it ALREADY.

So can you imagine my delight to see a locally made hat is called the Akubra Byron!

And of course, it is made out of Hemp!

True - I do not lie:

I can't hold myself in any more - see ya!

That hat was designed specifically for FB !

Always loved Byron, the blues n' roots festivals is one of the marvels of the world ...... I think everyone on this forum would find something they love at that festival.

my friend has been there twice and came back home with a tattoo both times .... the guy's in his 40's and didnt have (nor as far as i know have any notion of ) any tattoos before he found the place . last time he was there he has a vague memory of having a discussion on the beach in the small hours about who was the coolest 'jim' to have ever lived , him and some local narrowed it down to morrison and kirk , but couldnt pick a winner .

bacon and eggs breakfast was arranged in a smiley face on the plate .

says he loved the place but 'you wouldnt wanna live there'

Aha!

At least some here know what I am talking about.

It is probably (Byron) unrecognisable these days - I think some developers want to turn the place in to another Miami/Surfers Paradise.

EDIT: Even the doggies have to surf up that way - bit further North at Noosa:

My dog don't like the dotted line between the water and the sand so I don't know what he would do....

Sad to admit I've never been to Byron...or the Blues Fest.....was an excellent line-up this year.

My daughter was a paid photographer there one year...so she was up front and backstage...lucky her.

I remember she also took photo of a poor hippy crying over a loose guitar brace in the back of a Ford Falcon. [biggrin]

So, am I gonna get busted by the drug dog in the airport if I wear one of these? If you get desperate, can you tear it apart and smoke it? Seems like it would be mostly stems in any case, and not worth the trouble.......

I have to have on of these now - I don't know about the colour?

And Nick, if you are on the way to Byron, they are going to do a full search on the way IN at the Airport, but coming back they will just fold you into a little crumpled mess in your guitar case and push you down the Out shute....

And FB could walk there from his place....

EDIT:

I think most hippies stopped at Byron originally because the Police stopped anyone with long hair at the Queensland Border in the late 70s and they were out of fuel in the Kombi - apart from the Byron surf, beach, bay, hills and general beauty - that goes all the way up the coast North.
