retrorod Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Hey all! Just a liitle story about seeing singer/songwriter Robbin Thompson in solo concert in my 'neck of the woods' last Sat nite. Great show, in a 250 or so seat, modern auditorium with a great sound system. Robbin T. is a semi-local performer from back in my high school and college days who hails from Richmond,Va mostly after migrating from the Northeast. He has some late 60's-early 70's hits and claim to fame as co-writer with one of the Eagles and being a member of Bruce Springsteins "Steel Mill Band".... To the point....He mostly played a blonde J-200 and an all Koa cutaway acoustic. The sound was awesome with a great vocal mix. It was so awesome that I had to ask him(by email) about the vintage, model, and pickup system (gear-head that I am) ! Quite interseting reply... "the J-200 is an interesting question. its a 1989 neck and a 1992 body i think. got it when I was a gibson endorsee. the body cracked and they repaired it by putting a new body on the old neck. the koa guitar is a taylor mid 90's. both have fishman systems in them" I will say that from my seat, bothe guitars sounded great! The Koa Taylor being more bass and middy that the brighter J-200. Here is a clip with the J-200....an earlier show but some representation of his style...
57classic Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Interesting clip OWF. Sounds a bit like an Eagles song. Did you notice that he has a pick on the body of the guitar on the bass side of the fretboard extension near the 18th fret? Could this be under the fretboard?
