I know ive been posting a lot of topics recently cause im tryin to buy my first Gibby but bare with me. So in your opinions, Which is better? The LP Studio or The LP Studio 50's tribute humbucker

Hello!

The Studios likely to have thicker gloss finishes. There are satins as well, of course. The Tributes only come with, - what is called - "worn" finishes.

This is the key difference between the two.

Thanks dude. Just wondering.. Are there any sound differences?

Depends. Most Studios come with the 490/498 pickup combination, which are the modern incarnations of the original P.A.F. pickups. Then, there are a few with Burstbuckers, which are more vintage sounding units.

The Tributes come with P90s (50's, pre-2013 60's Tribute), 490/498 (50's Tribute Humbucker edition), Burstbuckers (2013 60's Tribute), or the very hot sounding Dirty Fingers pickups (in 2013 70's Tribute). The first run of the 70's Tributes had Epiphone "New York" mini-humbuckers, just like the '68-'85 Les Paul Deluxes. Those are bright-sounding humbuckers.

Hope it helps...

I've got the standard LP studio with 490/498 combo and i love the sound. I play rhythm guitar in an alt/indie/punk rock band and loved the sound i got out of my Dual Rec. For whatever reason studios with the burst buckers just didn't sound good to me. Just try them out with your amp and see what you like.

yes that's good advice..

when you go to a shop to try them out.. make sure you play through an amp that's similar to what you have (or want to get).. Its easy for the shop guys to plug you into some super expensive amp that will make anything sound good..

As for differences between the models.. They are fairly subtle.. What you will find though is that you can try three or four of the same model guitar and each can sound and feel slightly different due to differences in wood and setups etc..

Sooo.. what we always advise on here is just to play as many as you can cos each one is ever so slightly different.. So even go as far as if you find a model you really like, ask if they have more than one and get them to get them out the back for you. The more you play the better idea you will get on what you do and don't like.. then one day you will play one and just instantly know that its "The One"... :)

Happy hunting and let us know what you decide on (and of course post pics for us [thumbup] )

When spending this much on a guitar its worth being fussy and taking your time to find your ONE. Its waiting for you out there somewhere :)

Exactly my thinking.

I had a Studio 2012 for awhile which had Burstbucker Pros and the baked maple fretboard. I prefer baked maple to rosewood but the Burstbuckers sounded extremely bright with this combo as maple makes for a pretty bright sound...your bridge tone knob won't be moving past 5 or 6 most of the time. Long story short, it got annoying and I sold it. YMMV with rosewood though but I hear quite a few people with Standards switching out the Burstbuckers as well.

Now I have a Studio with the 490R/498T combo. I like it a lot more and although the pickups are a tad less versatile IMHO, they're also more usable for my needs.

you never get everything you want in a studio. i went with the studio because the bb pro's were a big selling point. is the 50's tribute only with uncovered humbuck's or p90s? I like the look of the 50's trib. studio but the p90's just buzz too too much. oh yeah, the tradeoff to get a good guitar at a good price, the studio's are coming with baked maple fretboards, i guess to compensate they did bb pros instead of 490s. the 50's might have a rosewood board.

for me the bb pro's were factory set too high on the body and sounded too hot with my normal amp settings. i just adjusted, lowered the pickups to manage the output. i like them. they are bright and hot
