My New J35

I have always been a Martin guy, but after a year or so struggling with my D18V's Mod V neck(hand cramping), I decided to trade it for a new Gibson J35. I was sad to see the Martin go, as I had wrote a bunch of songs on it, but the more I play the J35, the more I feel I made the right Choice.

With the shorter scale and wider nut, my hand is finally pain and cramp free. I felt I was losing about 25% of my technique, when playing the Martin, but I now have it all back. String bends are easier, and when I do country blues fingerpicking I have all the room I need to move around. It loves to be flatpicked also.

The amazing thing is that this guitar is dated March 11, 2013, and it is loud as can be. I swear I could hear it getting louder as I played it yesterday. It will be a cannon when it opens up. Louder than my Martin, even with lighter strings.

This one was picked from three at Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse. WI, so it may be a special one, but I am more than pleased.

Nice work Gibson Montana!

The back and neck look 'quite light' for mahogany.......IS it [confused]

Tis pretty at any rate!

There ain't nothing as good as a good Gibson...

Yes, it is lighter. They must not put a stain on it. It's kinda grown on me...reminds me of my Grandma's kitchen cabinets. :)

I know what you mean about that Martin neck. I sold my HD28P because the neck was too thin. The D28 Marquis is much better and like my D18GE neck, but for finger picking, I always choose the Gibson.

That is a great guitar and a great value. The one I played in a store had that same light finish.

Congratulations.

Hey guys,

I also have had the opportunity to demo 3 of these new J35's and while they were all kinda similar the one I played yesterday really stood out to me! I'm kinda torn whether to pick it up or hold out for the J45 TV I've been wanting for awhile.....decisions,decisions,lol.

BB,

congrats

enjoy your soon to be cannon !!!

and I am glad that as a Martin fan you have the honesty to say you found a gibson that suites you and not trash the brand as other people do .

enjoy every second of it and I am glad the pains have gone away and you are enjoying playing all over again .

Question : how good or bad did the other 2 J 35's at Dave's sound . were the 3 consistent or was this one superior sounding to the other 2 ?

thanks

I wasn't the one who played the three. It was a friend of the guy I traded the Martin to. Curious how consistent these J35s are. Looks like there is only one left at Dave's.

Congrats, they are selling like hot cakes it seems. Must be nice to hear note seperation coming from the Martin camp ... ;-)

I think they might have a bunch in the back room. I've been watching them be sold one by one, and within an hour another comes up on the site.

I'm loving mine too -- just got it last month. I'd put in a recommendation for both Dave's and Fuller's, who both had multiple examples and who both had great prices on them (I bought mine from Fuller's...).

The thing I keep digging is how light the J-35 is; it's decidedly lighter than my '11 J-50, which is a very similar guitar, pick up and battery and all.

Now we'll have to start a Registry of these new J-35s!
