jannusguy2 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 go to fullers in houston. they are no longer permitted to display their inventory on line but they have some of the best stuff and the best prices. google fuller vintage guitars. i've bought 4 gibsons and 1 martin from them. free shipping, liberal return policy. top shelf all the way.
Versatile Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 There are many online music dealers who have built up a good reputation for service and quality I have bought 3 Gibson solid electrics online with total satisfaction I would however, be a little more cautious regarding top level acoustics, having only ever bought in shops after playing/handling... menon Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 thanks guys for advice. Specifically I am looking at sweetwater for either a hummingbird or SJ 100. Versatile , by your advise i need to be wary( high end acoustics). Might not have a choice actually.I am not USA based and am in minneapolis mid may for a 3/4 days.Do not see choice of my guitars in stock there,( from various shops) Maybe i should change my buy options and just see what best guitar i actually see in the shops , on the gorund , instead of ordering online. menon
Dave F Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I've dealt with Sam Ash on line. They have it where can make them on offer on line. I just bought a new HB and had it within 3 days. Really cuts down on the haggling I got it 40% off list free shipping no taxes

zombywoof Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Unless guitars have attained a consistency - which if you read the forums is something that remains a pipe dream - it is a leap of faith no matter who you buy from. All in all though, I would think buying from a place like Fuller's or Daves' would seem to be a way of hedging your bet a bit. Looking at ads in forums and eBay, it sure seems there are ton of guitars out there that are cannons and play like buttah.
j45nick Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Looking at ads in forums and eBay, it sure seems there are ton of guitars out there that are cannons and play like buttah. Do you use buttah to lubricate a cannon? Do you end up with grease on your fingers?
BluesKing777 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I have stopped buying guitars online (for a while!). I have bought a few on eBay and a few from Elderly's and I have stopped now because I have been very lucky as with how stupid I can be, and now feel my luck has run it's course. Some of the guitars I bought online I have never seen at a shop near me, so online would be the only way I could have gotten them. But the other week I bought a National Resophonic brand new from a shop and it was really fun trying out all the others from the rack. I still bought the guitar I had mentally picked from the National online, but playing it before buying confirmed all.................. BluesKing777.
zombywoof Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Do you use buttah to lubricate a cannon? Do you end up with grease on your fingers? My cannon don't need no primer to make it go Boom. But a big old bucket of buttered popcorn sure makes the fingers slide easy over the frets.
Jayyj Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I've commissioned a guitar from a maker, based on handling enough of his instruments to trust him to deliver exactly the guitar I was looking for. I've also bought vintage guitars and mandolins online where I've wanted a particular model which has proved hard to track down in the UK. With a brand such as Gibson where there seems to be significant differences from one guitar to the next and it's not difficult to go out and play examples I'd go for an instore purchase. I don't mind travelling to try a guitar, and I don't mind not necessarily getting the best deal if a store has the guitar if want and gives a good level of service.
Triumph1050 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 i had a great online buying experience with my new custom shop J 45 from brick-and-mortar store that does a lot of online sales. The downside is I am not able to play it first but with such a limited run is no way I'm going to play this thing it was 2000 miles away from me. The big plus was the price a 2013 limited run custom shop J 45 for less then a J-45 standard at guitar center
Triumph1050 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 The store is Reno's music in Fisher Indiana and actually have several custom shop acoustics for great prices like mentioned before not much on the website but if you ask they send pics
