CindyC Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 My husband and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary this last March 20th! He saw me drooling over this guitar and told me to get it for our anniversary! Yes this forum is dangerous for bank accounts. Lol Luckily he's really impressed that I can play a lot of songs we grew up listening to together (high school sweethearts) now! I'm hoping to get him on drums once he retires in the next few years. The guitar arrived in better condition than I had expected! The marks on the guitar in the pics are reflections. It needed a good cleaning, polishing and new strings put on. It looked like it had been put in the case and forgotten about for some time. She's all clean and shiny now once again!! She sounds amazing and plays so easy! So here is my new Vintage 1965 Gibson Hummingbird w/ sound clip! I had my first lesson two years ago February 1st, and took lessons for 18mos. Taking a break from them now and working on getting my chords clearer, timing, strumming and other techniques along with beginning fingerpicking. Rhythm guitar is my passion and I usually play the rhythm guitar 1 or 2 parts in songs. I recently purchased the Boss Br800 for recording and am still figuring out how to do what I want to on it. It's going to take a little time considering it took me a week to figure out you need to turn on the phantom power manually each time. I'm getting it figured out little by little but for now here is a recording of the Rolling Stones, Heart of Stone done on the Hummingbird. I know it's a electric guitar song but I really liked how it sounded on the Hummingbird. Plus it was kinda easy for me to record. I'm still working on it but here's what I have for now. Hope you guys enjoy and I don't hurt your ears too much. https://soundcloud.c...-of-stone-01-01 Sound clip of Hummingbird alone https://soundcloud.com/cdsmith58/65-hummingbird-sound-clip

j45nick Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Goergeous Hummingbird, Cindy! Knew you had to be in Florida the minute I saw the setting for your 'Bird portrait. It looks a lot like my back yard in Vero Beach, just up the road.

We've had a nice winter this year haven't we? I played outside as much as I could it's getting humid and hot already though. Too bad we can't stay those temps all year.

I know I don't make her sing like she can yet but hopefully you all will be seeing progress in my playing as I continue my journey on guitar. Recording and being able to hear myself is a big step in that direction.

I can tell you personally that having a few Gibbys around has really motivated me to get better and its been a great journey the last 4 years since I took up guitar again after a 15 year hiatus ..

I can tell you personally that having a few Gibbys around has really motivated me to get better and its been a great journey the last 4 years since I took up guitar again after a 15 year hiatus .. Isn't that the truth! I'm definitely a Gibby believer now. My instructor misguidedly steered me away from Gibsons saying they were over priced and so so sounding! Fool, I replaced him with a few Gibsons!

Hep again ▲ Thanks, E-m7, about the guitar I'm sure your right so far as me I sure hope so. I appreciate your kind comment. I certainly cant practice any more than I do, usually 3-5 hrs a day most days! Only thing that stops me is occasional hand pain from over playing. I've been bitten bad!!
