btoth76 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Hello! I bumped into another Gibson, that made wonder... What do You think of this 1947 BR-4 lap steel? I am unfamiliar with this instrument, so I am asking for Your opinions. Does it represent any value? Is it a desirable collector's item, or not? How much would You spend on this one realistically? Just wondering, maybe it's worth investing in this one? Thanks for Your replies in advance! Cheers... Bence
btoth76 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 It's a BR-3, excuse me! Thus the year is unknown (the BR-4 was made only in '47).
Kaiser Bill Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I have a serial# from a mint 1940 Gibson lap steel (6 string) ...can you verify it actually a 1940 please?? F7316-96
surfpup Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 My impression has been that old lap steels are worth some money as collectables - but not a lot of money. Only a few people seem to really want them - or be able to play them really well. I bought a '58 Supro for $25 and sold t for $200. So the percent of profit was high - but the overall $ amount of the profit - not so much. I'd say if you can find them cheap enough go for it. You can always by a steel bar, tune it to C6, and let it rip.
