E-minor7 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Went in to check a couple of acoustics today. Was the first in the shop. Played a Hummingbird TV – very tempting and almost more beautiful than my own. 2 Hummingbird Standards – fine guitars, but not as good as the one I had for test in January. A Sheryl Crow SJ – very light and feminine. A J-45 Custom (rose) – seriously convincing. A Martin HD-28E Retro – stunning and better than my HD-28V. But, , , , the real reason for this thread is that one of the Std. Birds and a J-45 had an extreme dark brown almost black top-colour. Might appear fairly dignified and classy, yet I have to get used to it. Are you aware of these new models ?
retrorod Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Interesting, em7.....would love to see pictures of what you speak of....(darker tops)...... I am not aware of these from Bozeman! Unless its that new 'reptilian sunburst' of some sorts? Nice to see that Martin has a HD-28E named after me....
E-minor7 Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 No, it's much darker and ain't even a burst. Haven't been able to find pics. It must be brand new !
davenumber2 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Like this? http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=261200166156#
E-minor7 Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Like this? Yeah, that's close – wine red. Or could it be the ebony models, which under the light in the shop showed their dark brown truth where they normally appear plain black. Probably yes – or something in between. Thinking twice the lighting in their new acoustic room might be pretty bright, but in a discrete way.
JuanCarlosVejar Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 here's a 2013 J 45 : http://www.gbase.com/gear/gibson-j-45-standard-left-handed-2013-vintage JC

blindboygrunt Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Just found out they are called Wine Reds - oooh , nice. especially the big 200...works for me
E-minor7 Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Must be added that Wine Red isn't a new invention. They have been seen once in a while since the 70's, maybe earlier. Let's call this a re-introduction.
E-minor7 Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 oooh , nice. especially the big 200...works for me Yeah, they're quite serious.
EuroAussie Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Interesting, but I doubt Id ever have the guts to choose one of those over the standards. Still, I like it when Gibson goes a bit crazy and starts experimenting.
ParlourMan Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I'd be all over the SJ200 in Wine Red, I'd have chosen that if it was an option when I was buying my SJ200TV.
E-minor7 Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Still, I like it when Gibson goes a bit crazy and starts experimenting. Yeaps, thats a part of the show, ain't it. Still I tend to see this Wine Red as the opposite of crazy. More like, "We have been a bit on the flamboyant side the last couple of years, time to dampen our expression".

The square, no not for me either. I have seen one of the Wine Red slopes before, however it had a white scratchplate, sounds kinda naff but it looked really smart. I liked it.
GotTheSilver Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 strange how the 45 and the square shoulder one dont do much for me . For me, I like the Hummingbird best in this photo. I would like to see these guitars in person.
texasdw Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Oh man! I'm a sucker for red guitars. I'll have to stay out of my local shop. Dang the temptation!!
