AnneS
From Dream Guitars, here's Al comparing 4 pre-war models: a 1932 Martin OM-28, a 1934 Martin 000-18 ,a 1939 Martin 000-18 and a 1940 Gibson L-00. This is fun, especially with the seamless vid transitions-
mountainpicker
Thanks for posting that! That's about the coolest way to compare the sound of different instruments. His ending flourish put a smile on my face. There is something about playing the guitar that elicits doing that.
j45nick
That was pretty brilliant, and I think it showcases the Martin/Gibson smallbody tonal differences pretty well. Have to admit my two favorites were the OM-28 and the L-OO, even though they were entirely different. This video also demonstrates that an excellent player can make almost every guitar sound great (not that these aren't all great guitars to begin with). I hadn't heard Al Petteway before, but by the way he holds the guitars, I assume his initial training may have been on classical guitar. In any case, that guy can really pick! CindyC
That was very fun to watch and a very cool way to see them compared. Al Petteway can sure play! The Martins all sounded great but the L00 just had more it's own personality and was way prettier! Thanks for posting that Anne! J45Nick I think your right about how he holds the guitar I just realized thats how my instructor liked to I never connected it to classical before but that makes sense. BluesKing777
Great clip. I have had Dream Guitars bookmarked for a while - very dangerous thing to do - and I have very much enjoyed Al Petteway's playing on a lot of the 'test drives'. I think he has some instructional DVDs somewhere.... And keep your eyes off my L-00! BluesKing777.
