Black Sabbath - "God Is Dead?"

Hello!

I've heard it just an hour ago.

Did they succesfully recapture the atmosphere of Ozzy-era Sabbath? They definitely did - in my opinion. That's why I don't like it.

In my subjective opinion the best thing that happened to Black Sabbath was when Ozzy got fired. It was the best for the band and Ozzy too. Separated, both parties started to make excellent music.

I disagree, they didn't capture any of that old wicked and dark atmosphere from the Ozzy era, this is something different.

It's a bit bland, it doesn't have quite the pull the old songs did. It doesn't trick you into a riff and then surprise you, this song was quite mediocre at best.

Hello!

OK. I will not argue about that, because I've never been a big fan of the original Sabbath. My point was that Sabbath and Ozzy were better on their separate ways. I really liked the first three Ozzy albums and the Sabbath albums of the eighties.

During the years, Sabbath had the best singers of the genre: Tony Martin, Ronnie James Dio, Ray Gillen, Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes... These people were real musicians with abilities far above what Ozzy is capable of. Ozzy always had "great" management, and He was always surrounded by excellent musicians and songwritters, without whom He would have been long forgotten.

That's my very subjective opinion - of course.

This is the opposite of the original Sabbath.

The original Sabbath would have put out "God Is Dead!!!", not "God Is Dead???"

I loved the Black Sabbath Black Sabbath album.

I cut my teeth on Sabbath. I grew up with them. Easily one of my favorite bands at the time.

I remember when Sabbath Bloody Sabbath came out. The album cover alone made my parents question my sanity.

I think I was around 12 or 13. I liked it but it wasn't my favorite Sabbath.

Then Sabotage came out and they seemed to come back and I liked it better than Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

Technical Ecstasy I didn't get at all. And by Never Say Die they lost me forever.

I gotta agree with Dem00n and Bobf but only on the subject matter. It's pretty tame by old Sabbath standards.

Musically though I think it's closer to the old Sabbath than any Sabbath album since Sabotage.

I don't like the effect (chorus?) on the clean guitar. I think something like a wah, and/or some reverb would have made that part sound more creepy. Ozzy's vocals sound more like 90's solo Ozzy than Black Sabbath. BUT, Tony still has riffs, and hearing Geezer's bass cutting through made me smile and throw the horns. Geezer RULES. I'd say I like it more than I dislike it. I love Black Sabbath.

I think it's very good. I don't think it holds up to Sabbath of old but then what does? I love the guitar work and Geezer is in top form but the song isn't good enough to be an 8+min opus. If it had been cut down to 4min it might be a winner. I want to hear more of this 13!

Meh. 'snot bad. 'snot great. Seems to have a bit of the iPod era - faders to the red - production. Though maybe it's just this track. I'm generally a fan of Rick Rubin's production work.

It may not be like old Sabbath, but that doesn't make it any worse or better than it is. It's a great song IMHO.

You hit it on the head as far as my liking.

I think like everything else in the digital years, this song was way over produced.

Just my opinion. [smile]

Ha! I saw T Rex at a Kirschners Rock Concert taping back in the day.

Over two hours to get 3 songs taped. Good times though!

This is how I felt too, then make the song 8 minutes long and it turns uninteresting

Ok first right off the bat lets make it perfectly clear, Sabbath without Ozzy is like a grilled cheese without the cheese. Sabbath of the 80s lets face it sucked. As for this new song....in an age where horrible auto tuned crap is everywhere this is a pretty good tune. Is it vintage Sabbath? no but these guys aren't in the 20s and 30s anymore.

Tons of great stuff from the 80's, it was just doom metal.

I totally agree with this too, (in sarcastic tone of voice: I can't wait to hear the CD!)

have to agree a bit bland, 'course i'm comparing to their early work. I cut my Sabbath teeth on Vol's 1-4 but lost track/interest in these guys after Vol 4. The riff and a surprise was loaded into those early efforts and describes it perfectly.

Definitely curious with Ozzy back, what gems may lie within this piece of work..but that one wasn't it.

sounds pretty good..but every since I saw Beverly Hills Cop get 2 thumbs down from Siskel & Ebert, I pretty much stopped listening to other peoples opinions [laugh]
