jimmiJAMM
Unless you're on stage performing with a band, you're probably sitting down while playing your guitar most of the time. In fact, I don't even have my strap on mine because I'm always sitting when I play. I feel no need to stand in front of a mirror practicing windmill style strums (aka; Pete Townsend) or duck-hopping across the room real low (aka; Chuck Berry). My point here is that when I do stand and jam it's a totally different animal and I find myself, at times, peering down to see what the hell I'm playing and it just feels a bit awkward. Guitar slinger
When I sit down I feel more confortable and when I feel more confortable I play better. The better I play the more confortable and free I feel. I's not like I want to break the cricle lol Sometimes I like to stand, tough. But even when I stand the strap is never as loose as Page. More like Clapton. But i think I suck even more when standing.
Space Pup
I feel pretty comfortable playing either way. Probably because the first couple of years when I stated playing I always stood. When I first started playing I slung the guitar as low as I could, assuming it looked cool but after a few years I learned I could play better, faster, and more comfotabley with the guitar up higher. I started sitting down more and that's when I also started using the dots on the side of the neck. I also use a strap now when sitting, it's something I got use to when I started playing bass and then mandoiln.
LPDEN
If there's a chair and a lax session, sure.
GhrT
Most of the time I'm sitting down while playing. Especially when I'm on my own. Or laying back with my feet on the bed. When rehearsing or performing live, I'm standing right up. Or I should be extremely tired.
James Allen
I've sat when I jam and practice for most of the time I've been playing. I got into a situation recently where I was "standing" in with my brother's band and felt very awkard because it is a totally different experience. So, that inspired me to start practicing standing up some of the time. I don't want to get into another situation where I'm in front of a crowd and not feeling the groove because I'm having trouble controlling my instrument. That's not very professional. Cruznolfart
In all the years I played out I never sat unless it was behind the drums. I can't imagine sitting down to practice something that I'm going to do standing up. Plus I sing a lot. Singing is more difficult sitting down, especially with a guitar on your diaphragm. And, more important than any of the other reasons, when I'm playing guitar I feel totally free...sitting down in a chair restricts my mobility, keeps me from getting physical with my music, and that just ain't a good thing. I realize you said "jamming" which implies a less structured session than an actual practice but for me it's all the same...making music. But you gotta do it the way that makes YOU feel good.
