blindboygrunt Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 anyone own or played the new b25 models ? just browsing last night online and seen theyve been reintroduced
ParlourMan Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 The laminate jobs, no, seen them on the Thomann site, but not tried one... I'd fancy a go though.
blindboygrunt Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 oh yeah , laminate sides , missed that ... is that how they always were ?
ParlourMan Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 No idea, but I think so... This one is a real looker in my opinion. http://www.thomann.de/gb/gibson_b_25_sunburst.htm
bobouz Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 oh yeah , laminate sides , missed that ... is that how they always were ? Yes, the original B25 and Epi Cortez have laminated sides. Any USA dealers stocking it?
Yorick Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 That brings back happy memories to me--the first Gibson I ever played was back around 69, my buddy's B 25. I never played another that sounded quite like his, but I've always had a soft spot for these classy little guitars. Yes, the sides were laminated, I later learnt. Just goes to show that good laminates sound just fine. Now, I'm sure the thin 60s neck would feel funny to me. Back then, it felt just fine.
Danner Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 My first guita was a cherry burst B-25, which I acquired in 1972. Sadly, it was stolen out of my '75 Ford Maverick on June 21, 1975. It was my wedding night, and I left it in the car :-( If Gibson ever does a cherry burst B-25' I will buy one.
ponty Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Here is a Youtube example of the B-25 reissue. I have only found 3 advertised in the US at 1895 to $2495. Interestingly, one of them with a standard on ADJ bridge. They are orange with white pickguard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=YQS7oqkE0As
Dotneck Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Its not a model I was interested in back then...and I'm still not interested now...
MissouriPicker Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 My first quality guitar was a Gibson B25, back in late 60's. Nice guitar. I'd be interested in taking a look at the new ones. I prefer the larger-bodied guitars, but who knows?
fumblefinger Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Oh no, not the dreaded laminate! Anyone unknowingly playing one had best burn the clothes he was wearing and rush to the nearest confessional.
EuroAussie Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Any reason why the sides are laminate, when Gibson could have easily had them in solid ? Nice looking guitar, reminds me of my LG-2 especially with that pickguard, sounds good too from the Thomann sample, much better than the American Eagle sample from last week. Competitive price also.
zombywoof Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 There is nothing wrong with a laminate that is made of several even layers of the same wood. The J-200 from the mid-1950s on came with laminate maple back and sides. To me though this kinda reminds me of spending several thousand bucks to buy a reproduction of a 1930s Schmmidt Stella that cost like $6.00 when new.
